#Ultraprocessedfood #Iit’s time to clean up your act and begin eating clean. #Unlike minimally processed food or unprocessed foods like eggs lagumes deep leafy green frozen veggies fresh fruits and unprocessed meats for example which travel from the farm and Pasture to your kitchen table looking pretty much the same. ultra processed foods have been manufactured pressed often enhanced with added sugar refined flour and a boatload of ingredients that you cannot even pronounce. A hard, yet heartfelt, question... Are you possibly in denial that your health and your habits may be jeopardizing your chances of living a long, healthy life? Sleep...it's not just for night time. How you will sleep tonight or any night is set up with what happens during the day. Wait..whaaa???? I purchased all the 'cooling sheets', set my temperature to 65 degrees F (18.3 C) and wore 'breathable' pajamas and still wasn't sleeping at night. When I uncovered the inflammation in various parts of my body (we ALLLLLL have it), I now sleep 7+ hours and my body has the time it needs to repair itself. That's what happens when you sleep. Your mind and body repair itself. You know all too well what happens when you don't sleep...brain fog, joint pain, irritability, low or no energy, anxiety, racing thoughts...it is all a vicious cycle. Sleep is THEEEE #1 precursor to mental, emotional and physical health. That includes hormones. So, your sleep starts during the day and one part is nutrition. That's my actual shake this morning with hormone loving, brain-boosting, energy charged LOW INFLAMMATORY nutrients. Have you ever been told to 'just calm down' in the middle of an argument or when you might be 'flipping out' or feeling really anxious? And...how many times in the history of time has someone telling you to 'just calm down' ever worked? As a highly energetic and 'at times' Type A person, it used to be challenging to 'calm down' and focus in the moment when things were going haywire. My cortisol hormone was elevated to 4x!!! the high end of the spectrum and to make matters worse, I wasn't sleeping through the night for almost 3 years. What I learned is that a calm nervous system is crucial for promoting a calm mind. The nervous system is responsible for sending signals to the brain and other parts of the body, and when it's in a state of calmness, it can promote a sense of relaxation and tranquility. When the nervous system is activated due to stress or anxiety, it can cause a cascade of physical and emotional responses that can make it difficult to maintain a calm state of mind. By practicing relaxation techniques such as deep breathing, meditation, and grounding exercises, we can help activate the parasympathetic nervous system, which is responsible for promoting a calm and relaxed state. This can help reduce stress, anxiety, and other negative emotions, leading to a more peaceful and serene state of mind. Mindfulness is a pillar of wellness and can be done anywhere...even in the middle of chaos. A calm mind is a HUGE contributor of a good nights sleep. The two questions I am always asked is 'What can I 'TAKE' go get rid of my menopause symptoms' and "Why won't you just TELL me what to do'? Many of us, for multiple generations have been 'told' what to do from their medical provider and left without a choice, never had the 'root cause' identified and were treated for a symptom(s). The 'top-down' hierarchal approach has been around for a long time. Taking another pill, cream or injection to 'cover' a symptom is a bandage. The underlying cause is still there. It's just covered up. Ever put duct tape over a leak? It eventually starts to drip again. We do this all the time...in relationships (guilty), with our day to day lives, hoping something will cover up the problem and we won't experience the pain anymore. Until you do. Functional Medicine and A Modifiable Lifestyle approach works WITH the human being, not the human 'doing' to identify the root cause and it starts by removing the underlying cause so you can heal from the inside out. Make time for movement: Movement and exercise is great for relieving stress, balancing hormones and improving your overall health. Eat healthy and nutritious foods: Fueling your body with healthy and nutritious foods will help you feel energized and well. Choose anti-inflammatory foods that are rich in vitamins and minerals. Get enough sleep: To feel your best, try to get at least 7-8 hours of sleep every night. (Last week we had 5 posts on sleep). Take breaks from tech: It’s great to stay connected, but try to take regular breaks from your phone and other devices. Practice mindfulness: Taking a few minutes to meditate or practice mindfulness can help you to stay present and reduce stress. Processed foods likely contain processed oils, artificial flavorings, gluten and sugar which are all anxiety-triggers. Refined sugar (table sugar) and HFCS (High fructose corn syrup) is extremely inflammatory. Your body cannot process the intense surge quick enough and it can present itself as anxiety, rapid heart beat, anger, moodiness and irritability. Artificial flavorings are created to enhance flavor, color, texture and taste. These may also increase anxiety with their chemical properties.
