Air - ★★★½ (2023) Directed by Ben Affleck 75/100 The speech Matt Damon's character gives to Michael Jordan about how a shoe is just a shoe until someone puts it on is basically a speech that also serves to encapsulate the overall message of this film. I mean, Air is not just a movie about a shoe, but at the same time it is, because at the end of the day, beyond the motivational and inspirational angle of its plot, Air represents a story that millions of people are passionate about. A story in which there were many risks and constant pressure to achieve the desired result and when the success comes it is much greater than they had anticipated. We are seeing real people who worked hard and their hard work paid off incredibly well. Americans love that shit and this story represents it perfectly. Air is a relatively straightforward film, but Ben Affleck assembles an impressive cast and while all have proportionately modest roles, with the exception of Matt Damon, they all have a part to play in the ensemble and it is they who lend a more distinctive quality to this story. Affleck continues to live under the shadow of The Town and especially Argo. He's a limited director but he knows what he's doing and manages to bring this story to fruition. Lunedì in Streaming NO SPOILER Recensione I Care a Lot, 2020, regia di J Blakeson Su Prime Video potete trovare uno di quei film del periodo pandemia che sono passati molti inosservati e che avrebbero bisogno di ricevere un po' di attenzione. In questo caso vi parliamo di I Care a Lot, pellicola con una splendida Rosamund Pike e un granitico Peter Dinklage. La storia vede la Pike mettere in atto truffe assicurative ai danni di anziani, i quali si vedono rinchiusi in ospizi e defraudati dei propri beni. La storia nasconde un’atroce verità poiché non si basa su personaggi reali, ma su situazioni realistiche. Questa realtà è infatti sconosciuta ai più, ma è piuttosto comune in America e la pellicola cerca di gettarci una luce e lo fa con un piglio sagace che salta subito all’occhio. La sceneggiatura è, infatti, molto ben scritta e il ritmo si mantiene sempre elevato tanto da non annoiare mai. Ci ha ricordati in qualche maniera, e un po' alla lontana, la formula degli Heist Movie in cui dei personaggi devono mettere a segno un colpo che li renderà ricchi. Ciò che abbiamo apprezzato meno, ma è un nostro problema puramente soggettivo, è la scelta di far vivere le vicende alla cattiva della storia, impedendoci di provare empatia per la protagonista e di far sembrare ancor più agghiacciante tutta la situazione. Probabilmente è proprio questo il motivo di tale scelta, ma un po' di scene ci sono sembrate sopra le righe e non ci ha fatto impazzire come è stato scritta la protagonista e le ragioni che la muovono. Alla fine della fiera non è assolutamente un capolavoro, anzi, ma il buon ritmo e l’intenzione di metterci al corrente di una situazione inquietante che avviene negli Stati Uniti ci fa dire che un’occhiatina potreste dargliela.
