◾️ This Heat - Made Available: John Peel Sessions (1977/1996) ◾️ Genre: Experimental Rock/Noise Rock ◾️ Key track: Makeshift (https://youtu.be/h_E95gD8KBE?si=r9Z1l5Avu5XlKErx) Tak, ściągnąłem tę płytę z półki wciąż przeżywając żałobę po odejściu Steve'a Albiniego, ponieważ okładka "Made Available" (a przynajmniej tego kompaktowego wznowienia) budzi jednoznaczne skojarzenia z "1000 Hurts" Shellac. Są także muzyczne podobieństwa, ale w tym przypadku to This Heat jest źródłem, z którego najpewniej Albini zresztą czerpał. Bo to był zespół, który tworzył jakieś 20 lat w przyszłości. Zdumiewa mnie jak bardzo nowatorska była to muzyka, a przecież powstawała w samym epicentrum punkowej rewolucji. Chociaż, jeśli tak na to spojrzeć, to jest to pewne wytłumaczenie, bo konstytutywnym elementem twórczości This Heat była negacja zasad i muzycznych uniwersaliów, które punkowcy też na swój sposób demolowali. "Made Available" to zapis archiwalnych sesji nagrywanych pod okiem radiowego guru muzyki alternatywnej, Johna Peela. Nagrania pochodzą z roku 1977 i przeleżały w szufladzie niemal równo 20 lat zanim zostały opublikowane. This Heat było już wtedy tylko wspomnieniem, ale siła tej muzyki w 1996 nie osłabła ani trochę. W epoce Sonic Youth i Unwound śmiałe eksperymenty tego brytyjskiego trio z hałasem, kolażowymi formami momentami zmierzającymi w stronę muzyki konkretnej nadal świeciły jak Gwiazda Betlejemska, wskazująca drogę podróżnym. I ja ochoczo narzucam plecak, ruszając w wędrówkę wiedziony gwiezdnym drogowskazem. Matuchno kochana, tak brzmi przyszłość! Ta muzyka nie ma daty ważności. Stawia opór algorytmom sztucznej inteligencji, bo nawet najdoskonalszy model GPT czy innego modułu AI zawiesi się próbując skomponować podobną symfonię zgiełku. This Heat - szczególnie na "Deceit", ale tutaj są tego zaczątki - to była diabelnie precyzyjna maszyna. Cięte riffy wkleszczały się między ciasny beat, który raz to był fundamentem pod krautrockowe impresje, innym razem rozpadał się w toku utworu na wiele kawałków. Muzyczny dadaizm, biblia noise'ów wszelakich. Kocham.

I really disliked The Soup Dragons when I first heard them, but that was because I didn't hear them until they'd gone all acid house, a bandwagon jump that did them no favors. Later when I discovered their early C86 singles and albums, I dug them a lot more. These for seasons have a ton of great stuff they never otherwise recorded.
