Sunday 25th December. A wonderful Christmas morning spent in the company of this beautiful wee mountain hare. My new 'friend' this year who I've been photographing since late Spring when he was just a very small, young hare. I identified him early on in the year by his distinctive notch in his ears. He frequents the same few forms in the area and always a delight when I spot him. Today he let me lie in the snow quite close up, around 2 metres, for well over one and a half hours. Spending time on wet snow getting soaked and cold is a minor nuisance for us humans. Wednesday 23rd March. Another Alpine day in the Cairngorms. Gaby out with Tarmachan Mountaineering on day 2 of his preparation for climbing Mont Blanc this summer. Superb condtions again. The snow softening as the morning drifted into the afternoon. We had Coire an Lochain to ourselves and Cairn Lochan summit to ourselves, and the finest view point in the entire Cairngorms to ourselves. One of the highlights of my Alaska trip was an afternoon spent dogsledding with Outer Range Dogsledding Tours in Healy, just north of Denali National Park. In the incredibly capable hands (and reins!!) of Jennifer LaBar, I learned so much about the history and culture of dogsledding and what special pups sled dogs are. Seeing Jenโs relationship with her dogs and getting to hear about her experience running the Yukon Quest 350 race just a few weeks ago was an unforgettable experience. Happy to see this one chowing down along the Dalton Highway because a moose tragedy is unfolding here, with some estimates saying Alaska could lose half the moose population this winter due to the extremely heavy snowfall. The juveniles, especially, are having a hard time finding enough food in the deep snow. Even with their very long legs they are having trouble walking through the deep drifts, so theyโre taking to the roads, rails, and packed trails more than usual. And according to a ranger at Denali National Park, the difficult conditions are making them grumpy, and an angry moose is a dangerous moose. After visiting the Queen's Garden, I took the Navajo Loop trail to head back out of the canyon. Some parts of the trail were closed because of the snow, but the part that took me back to the top was really nice. Thursday 25th November. A very pleasant morning up on the Monadhliath. With a lull before the snow storms it was wonderful to spend some time with the mountain hares. Wildlife photography is so much easier when you can see out of the binoculars and hold the camera steady rather than struggling in mist, whiteout and 40mph + winds :) This lovely creature I have been photographing since the summer. It's wonderful observing and photographing one particular hare. About half of the hares in this area where I photograph regularly are still in their transition pelage. There are a few that are now almost complete white. The best time to enjoy the canyon is winter when cliff tops are wrapped in snow but in winter many roads in the park might be closed. It is well-known for #stargazing. ย Scenic drive in Bryce canyon takes minimum 3 hours to drive to the 13 viewpoints along the park's 38-mileย (round-trip). Free shuttle operates in the park during summer. Sunrise point and Sunset Point on 5 minutesโ drive from Visitor center; are best locations to start your day in Bryce Canyon. When sun rises and its rays fall on the cliffs, it gives the perfect panoramic vistas. #Brycepoint is another beautiful point in the park which gives one of the most scenic vistas of the full amphitheater and all its wonders amaze the visitor.
