Today's @acozyengagement prompt, Dumpling Wicked made me immediately think of Death by Dumpling by Vivien Chien. 🥟 This is the first book in the excellent Noodle Shop Mystery series. I read this book when it first came out and immediately loved the unique setting of a Chinese restaurant which is part of an Asian restaurant and shopping district in Ohio. I also like the main character Lana who works at her family's restaurant and investigates a murder. Since then, I've read all but the newest book that came out earlier this year. I really like that as the series continues, the plots remain fresh and the characters develop and grow. If you've not read this fun, culinary series, I highly recommend it. ~Review~ 2 💫 I was hoping this book would give me the Nancy Drew vibes and it didn’t deliver. Nancy Drew was smart, a prodigy if you will. Lana Lee is not. Lana Lee circles theories around and around in her brain and misses the obvious. Lana Lee falls for incompetent policemen. Lana Lee drags the book with her narration style. If not for how short the book was I would’ve dnfed. And the reveal. Am I a genius or was it too easy? Because I clocked it by chapter 3. I always love learning about other cultures so the stars are highkey for that aspect. My other lakeside read this week is a cozy mystery that’s been recommended to me several times — Death by Dumpling by Vivien Chien! I’m about halfway through and am loving this cozy whodunnit so far. It’s the perfect vacation read for a fun mystery with lovable, colorful characters and a lighthearted feel. It also has great Asian American rep that is certainly very relatable and awesome to read about! If you enjoyed Arsenic and Adobo by Mia P Manansala, you’ll probably love this one, too. Q: when you vacation, are you a physical book person, or do you prefer ebook or audio? A: for trips, I tend to gravitate toward ebooks for ease, while I love a good audio read while driving! Dim Sum of All Fears is book two in the Noodle Shop Mystery Series by Vivian Chien. This book is also book 24 for the year (I’m also behind on my reviews). Lana Lee is back at her parents noodle restaurant waiting tables but this is asked to be in charge of the restaurant while they travel. Unfortunately, the newlyweds next door are found dead and Lana must prove who killed them. This book is full of twists and I didn’t figure out the killer until Lana did. 🥟 𝗛𝗮𝗽𝗽𝘆 𝗟𝘂𝗻𝗮𝗿 𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗬𝗲𝗮𝗿! 🥟 I saw this cozy mystery series and I just thought they sounded so fun. There’s currently 6 books published in the Noodle Shop Mystery series and 2 are publishing this year! This is my first cozy mystery series since started my Bookstagram. I’m only about 25% into 𝗗𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗵 𝗯𝘆 𝗗𝘂𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 and so far it’s very good! Luckily, I had these dumplings for lunch because they are one of my favorite foods! We are lucky to live near @hmartofficial which has an incredible selection of frozen dumplings! The first book tells the story of Lana, a daughter of a parents who own the Ho-Lee Noodle House. Lana starts working at her parents restaurant after a bad breakup and a change in careers. The Property Manager for her parents restaurant ends up dead after a delivery of shrimp dumplings. But everyone knows about Mr. Feng’s shellfish allergy! Do I finish these in 24 hours? Yup. Lana Lee is a Chinese American who is fresh off a breakup with a cheating boyfriend. She works at the family Chinese restaurant, Ho Lee noodle house (do you get it? 😆). The restaurant is located in an asian plaza where other store owners are like family. The plaza owner is discovered dead after an allergic reaction to shrimp in the egg rolls Lana delivered to him. But the police decide he was murdered. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Cozy mysteries are the best when you feel the need to change things up! • Knowing that I would be traveling last week, I thought a cozy would be perfect so I picked up Death By Dumpling and really enjoyed it! I’ve already bought the next book in the series so I have it on hand the next time I’m in a book slump. • Cozy mysteries are never ‘deep’ or ‘intense’. I have to admit that it's taken me several weeks to finish #MurderLoMe a #noodlehousemystery by @vivien_chien_author. By no means was it because the book didn't keep my attention, because it did. It's mainly because life kept slapping me around everytime I try to open it and read it. Pesky life. Then I took it with me out-of-town and thought I'd left it behind or lost it.
