Also a big day, my kiddo started his new swim class and loved it AND we got a dining room table that actually fits in our tiny space after living here for 5 years! Big big day around here lol.🤣 Series: A Noodle Shop Mystery, # 7 Format: 📘 Verdict: of course I loved it! Another hit in this wonderful series that has become one of my top cozy series. I love jumping back in with Lana, Megan, Adam and her family and friends. Also it made me SO HUNGRY and also wanting to sign up for a cooking class asap (but maybe without the mystery please?) I was completely stumped by this mystery and loved how Lana and crew pieced it together. There are some very vibrant characters in this book which had me laughing a lot, and also very suspicious. I cannot wait for more!

The spinny wheel I made to help me choose books to read has chosen Killer Kung Pao by Vivien Chien. That is the 6th book in the series. Egg Drop Dead by Vivien Chien, book 5 in the Noodle Shop Mysteries was my long weekend quick read. Lana has once again been a witness to murder, this time the nanny who works for Donna is murdered at Donna’s birthday. I liked the overall investigation, and that Lana got to work with a real PI and get a little more support in her investigation. I really enjoyed how her relationship with Adam continues to grow as they get more series, especially with the reappearance of her ex. The murder itself was a bit predictable, I felt like the initial clue that is overlooked by Lana pretty much explained who killed the nanny and then the rest of the book gave us the why. You’ll be seeing more about these books on my page after I’ve read them! 📚 Long Time Gone by Charlie Donlea (May) - I’ve read two prior thrillers by Donlea and loved them, so I can’t wait to see what’s in store in this newest book dealing with forensic genealogy and unexpected DNA test results. 📚 The Diva Goes Overboard by Krista Davis (May) - This is one of my favorite cozy mystery series because I enjoy spending time with Sophie Winston and her friends in Old Town Alexandria, Virginia, so this should be a fun read. 📚 The Midnight Feast by Lucy Foley (June) - I liked The Guest List and The Hunting Party, so I’m looking forward to this thriller about the opening of The Manor, a hotel with a secret history. 📚 A Very Woodsy Murder by Ellen Byron (July) - This book is the first in a new series about a sitcom writer who decides to leave Los Angeles to open a motel. This one sounds so fun, I can’t wait to read it. 📚 Peking Duck and Cover by Vivien Chien (July) - The Noodle Shop mystery series is another one of my favorites and the newest book takes place at Chinese New Year, so it should be really interesting and fun to read. 📚 The Dark Wives by Ann Cleeves - (August) - The newest Vera Stanhope mystery is one of my most anticipated reads for the whole year! I was so happy to see this, especially after getting the pleasant surprise of volume 6 being released! Alice in Borderland Vol. 9 - When I got this volume, I was surprised to find out it was the final volume. I had totally missed it was ending! Can't wait to see how it comes to an end. Wonton Terror by Vivien Chien is book four in the noodle shop mystery series but the first one I have read the physical book of rather than the audio book. Honestly, I think I liked this more as a physical book than the audio format. It felt a little faster and easier to notice clues in the plot. This story has Lana a little less involved with the murder itself (food truck explosion) and more in the investigation side. I enjoyed the plot, I liked the possibility of rival food trucks and that it could have also been family. I did figure out who the murderer was before Lana but I felt like the flow worked nicely. 💬 What is your go-to take out order and spot? OR what fun colors have your dyed your hair?! Happy Friday Jr! This week keeps getting better and better..... after being home taking care of my sick kiddos yesterday, I got called to jury duty today! Yay! Hope they’re not relying on much from the 1 brain cell I have left.... I didn’t complete my series catchup last month because I was waiting on my library holds, but at least I did get to this one and it was fabulous! Series: Noodle Shop Mystery # 6 Format: 📘 Verdict: gets better and better! I love this series more and more as I read. Lana, supported by Megan and Adam, is one of my favorite cozy sleuths; I just feel like her determination, her belief in herself and the goodness of others (even others who have been ruthlessly mean to her), and her take no crap attitude are the perfect combination. I would be friends with Lana in a heartbeat and I love spending these pages with her. This mystery took many interesting turns and I was quite shocked by the ending!! I cannot wait to continue.

Murder Lo Mein - Vivien Chien In this third installment of the cozy mystery series featuring Lana Lee and her family’s noodle shop, the restaurant is participating in a local noodle cooking competition. Lana’s team wins the first round of the competition when one of the judges is found murdered. Is the murder related to the judge’s personal life or could the other participants in the competition be in trouble? Lana is determined to find out! I’m still enjoying this series so much! Though the mystery was a bit predictable, I did enjoy the cooking competition part of the storyline. Dim Sum of All Fears - Vivien Chien Lana Lee is at it again - helping to run her family’s noodle shop and solving mysteries! Lana is under a lot of stress. Her parents are overseas visiting family and have left her in charge of their family’s restaurant. The morning she is set to take charge, she finds her friends, the proprietors of the shop next door, murdered. Lana initially tries to stay out of it (no need to put herself in danger or risk upsetting the guy she’s dating, Detective Trudeau). But after stumbling upon some clues she decides she must seek justice for her friend. What lies ahead are discovered secrets, family drama, and a lot of missing money. This is such a fun cozy mystery series. That being said, this book fell a bit flat for me and there are still some aspects of the ending that I’m not sure I understand. “Misfortune Cookie” is the 9th book in the Noodle Shop Mystery series by @vivien_chien_author. For seasonal readers like myself, the setting is sunny California, while the main character’s home state of Ohio is knee-deep in a traditional December winter. Every time I read another book in this series, I’m reminded of why I love it. Lana’s personality is engaging and real. She’s funny and sarcastic from the first page. I loved everything about this book, even the change of setting, which I usually don’t enjoy. Book 102 of 2023- Hot and Sour Suspects by @vivien_chien_author 🥳 LAST REVIEW FROM 2023 🥳 🍜 Lana is back and again finds herself in the middle of another mystery. After a speed dating event at her restaurant one of the other business owners in the Asia Village finds herself the main suspect in a murder investigation. Of course, Lana can’t help herself and has to try to solve the case and get her friend off of the hook. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/ 5💫 📚 This is just such a fun series. It is an easy read that has a solid mystery. I personally did not see the murderer in this book and while that is ok, I do wish there were a little bit more clues that I could look back on and see that I missed. I am not upset because it did not come out of nowhere, but I am also not sure that it was solvable by a reader either. With all that said, I just love this series and will continue to read it and enjoy every book that is put out in it!

😭 there are no words! Of all days… 😌 so picture it, I’m coming home from a doctor’s appointment - of which I’ve been anxious to go to since I left the last doctor’s appointment a week ago. "Death by Dumpling (Noodle Shop Mystery #1)" by Vivien Chen is a cozy mystery series set at an Asian Mall/Market. Lana Lee is working at her mom's Asian food restaurant that is part of the market when the property owner and manager is found having suffered an allergic reaction to something Lana may have brought him. I really didn't have any good ideas of who was the culprit. It was well done enough in that sense. Lana Lee is not in Ohio anymore for this book! Okay, so I really love this series. I see so much of myself in the family dynamics of the Lee family. I extra love that Anna May is in this one. It's exactly what I asked for a few years ago. More Anna May and Lana shenanigans. Well I got it! Lana is headed to sunny California for a restaurant convention and to visit with her Aunt Grace. Aunty Grace is very much a glitzy LA journalist and she offers an expensive rental at the beach for Lana and Anna May, who wants to tag along Lana's trip. But at a swanky party with free flowing champagne and fancy hors d'oeuvres with Aunt Grace's freelance journalist friends and co-workers, someone plunges to their death from the hotel rooftop. The person is a close friend of Aunty Grace's and Lana remembers seeing her in a fight at the first day of the restaurant convention. Lana promises her Aunt Grace that she will help her find the murderer but Lana must do it before her trip is over. Can she do it? Well, duh. Okay this one is fun just because we got more of Anna May. I curious about the flawless image Anna May has and what lies beneath. I hope we get another story, this time connected to Anna May somehow. Just a fun read and escapism. But this quote. Murder Lo Mein by Vivien Chien was our audiobook for our drive to Maryland last week. We spent the week visiting friends, seeing the sights in DC and enjoying some time off. I liked this Noodle Shop Mystery, it made for a quick read we were able to finish during the 8 hour drive. This book covers a murder at the cooking contest so obviously I loved it. I was happy Lana and Adam got their relationship figured out and they have started being more honest with each other. This has been a fun series to listen to and discuss with Ryan. Book 16/12 finished! 📚 I absolutely adore the second book, Dim Sum of All Fears, in this fun mystery series by @vivien_chien_author. This sequel to the first book, Death by Dumpling is definitely heavier and is much more focused on the case itself than it’s predecessor. It was nice to see that the lowkey potential love interest from the first book carried over and I really enjoy that it still took a backseat to the investigating itself. Lana Lee is a confident intelligent woman and as a Nancy Drew fan, I feel like they would be fast friends. I can’t wait to continue this series soon! Book review time! 💖 Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 📚 Genre: cozy mystery, culinary Trouble arises after a speed dating event at Lana's family's restaurant, Ho Lee Noodle House. The date that Rina Su was matched with is found dead. Lana starts investigating only to discover that Rina's date had a pretty bad past involving women, coworkers and neighbors. With plenty of suspects, will Lana find the murderer before it's too late? 💕 Positives: * Loved seeing more of Kimmy in the book. She's sassy yet sweet. * The mystery was interesting and fairly hard to solve. I kept thinking along the same theory as Kimmy. 🚫 Negatives: None ⚡Trigger Warning: None. 🌟 Overall, I really enjoyed this book. She wants to keep it a secret, but when the teacher is murdered Lana finds herself on the case again with the help of her best friends and a detective boyfriend that is just trying to keep her out of trouble! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/ 5💫 📚I love this little series. Lana and all of the characters that surround her are fun, but also grounded in reality. The bad guy in this one has an interesting motivation which made it stand out from other cozy mysteries. Overall, this is an enjoyable addition to a wonderful cozy mystery series! It is a perfect book if you just want something easy and fun to read!
