b o o k • r e v i e w 📚 - the storm runner (the storm runner 1) by j. c. cervantes - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - I didn’t love this but it was still fun. This felt the most Percy Jackson-esque in both story and gods out of all the Rick Riordan Presents imprints I’ve read so far, and I also feel like there were a lot of Harry Potter similarities (besides referring to the bad guy as “You Know Who”). - I like Zane, and I’m kinda indifferent on everyone else but I’ll keep reading. - The writing was quite jumpy throughout, there were a couple times that things were stated as happening/ending that I hadn’t even known had started. That happened at least twice, that I had to go back and reread looking for info that wasn’t there. It took me out of the story as I was confused about what was happening. - I feel like there were some weird and unnecessary descriptions of how people looked, but always the wrong people because I can’t personally remember what any of the main characters is supposed to look like. 💀 - Another complaint I didn’t have until closer to the end was how “what” has been abbreviated to showcase stammering; “wha… wha?” just drove me up. the. WALL!!! Yes, it's supposed to be my currently reading post, but I have finished reading it a couple of days ago. It was just so thrilling and page-turning! The plot, the game, the quest are just engaging. My current reading: The Fire Keeper, by (J. C. Cervantes) On page 301/416 This is a sequel to The Storm Runner book I read previously. What I like so much is the character development of both Zane and Brooks. They no longer keep secrets to each other and act more mature. The new character, Ren, has so much mysteries and magics. I want to see her in her full potential. I like the pace of the story, which is not too fast, though it was a little bit dragging in the middle. But the sequence—it is more unpredictable. Even now, I still don't know who is (or are) the real enemy behind it all. Oh and the cover is so beautiful. Ada banyak kerjaan dan acara di kantor selama Agustus yang menyita waktuku. Ditambah, aku juga sempat sakit, tapi sekarang sudah lebih sehat kok. Anyway, di akhir bulan Agustus, aku mulai membaca novel ini: The Storm Runner—buku pertama dari trilogi The Storm Runner karya J. C. Cervantes yang merupakan bagian dari Rick Riordan Presents. Menurutku, ini agak mirip dengan The Red Pyramid dan The Sword of Summer karya Rick Riordan karena protagonisnya tidak mendapatkan bekal apa-apa ketika berangkat menjalani misi pertama mereka. Apalagi, Zane Obispo, si tokoh utama, tidak dapat bantuan dewata dalam misinya. Selain itu, Zane merupakan representasi kelompok disabilitas yang membuat buku ini menjadi menarik. Gaya narasi Zane terkesan selengean—seperti The Diary of a Wimpy Kid. Walaupun aku tidak familiar dengan mitologi Maya, serta nama dewa-dewinya sulit dilafalkan, aku tidak terlalu kesulitan mengikuti ceritanya. Hanya saja, aku ingin penulis lebih banyak menceritakan mitologi Naya supaya orang awam sepertiku jadi lebih mengerti konteksnya. Aku sudah masuk ke babak puncak ceritanya, tidak sabar menyelesaikannya. Finished reading it and it was good. It was good to see the characters I know and love. But to be honest, there wasn’t enough of that in the book. I still liked it, but it’s not my favorite. It was actually very different than what I was used to in The Storm Runner series. I’m definitely curious as to what’s going to happen in the next one, so we’ll see. And the ending was pretty weird. The perfect conclusion to an overall amazing series ! This series doesn’t get enough credit so I’m here to HYPE. IT. UP. 😍 ! We follow Zane, Brooks, and the gang on their final and almost impossible mission. The gods have been stolen, and Zane will have to travel through time in order to get them back. I loved all the new characters, I loved the romance that finally blossomed between Zane and Brooks, and overall this was a great conclusion.
