Hello internet and Bookstagram/Mangagram, how are we holding up? April has been the month I've read the least so far, but since I'm working on getting my degree this year I can only guess it will get worse from here on in. I know, I know it's one day early but I'm a practicing pessimist, spiritual realist - I won't finish anything today nor tomorrow. The wrap-ups have been a new fun way for me to track and do some ✨book blogging✨. I usually try to make it mostly about the different media but I'll just spill my thoughts as it goes: I've said I read less than the previous months, and back in March I said that I hoped the reading experience would get better, and beware of what you wish for or something like that because while I didn't manage to read as much the VAST majority were absolutely bangers! For mangas I only read sequels and loved every single one but they're also hardly ever the issue during a month. I don't recall reading one I hated in a long while 😂 So, who are the bad apples in the barrel? "Under the dome" by Stephen King and "Alice" by Christina Henry. So sorry if you enjoyed either book, we can't be friends anymore. Which leaves the good ones, the juiciest, ripest, sweetest (or sour) ones. With a whopping total of six and half 5-⭐, April was probably the most successful regarding my book choices. K. Ancrum still has me in a chokehold and needs to pay for my therapy some day but I'm also relieved how much I loved "Icarus". The same goes for "Dark Rise", which was a buddy read with @annathebookdragon - which contributed to my enjoyment, I believe. Naturally, "The Sunshine Court" is easily my favourite for the whole month. And after book 2 I really had a good time with the third installment of the Raven Cycle, "Blue Lily, Lily Blue". On the Line 3.5🦪 I enjoyed this, but just felt like the end was kind of rushed and unfinished. I have questions about things that IMO should have been cleared up by the end of the But I loved all the banter and spice in this book! It’s the 1930s. The powers that be hope to demolish Los Angeles’ Chinatown, pushing all of its current residents—who, by law, are unable to purchase property—to find housing elsewhere. This is also Hollywood’s Golden Age, and Lulu Wong—based partially on the actress Anna May Wong—is trying to use her influence in Hollywood to affect change in her community, starting by pushing for a role that challenges the harmful stereotypes perpetuated by Hollywood’s obsession with Orientalism. When Lulu is killed, two of her childhood friends realize that the police are not interested in finding Lulu’s actual murderer. They’d much rather blame the crime on a Chinatown resident, thereby strengthening the case to raze the community. Obviously, they then set out to investigate on their own. Now this took me forever to read, but I’m 99% sure that that was me being overwhelmed with work and not the fault of the book. In fact, once I finally got to just sit with the book this weekend, I couldn’t read the last 30% fast enough. So I’m going to leave you with Kirkus’ review instead of my own: “This twisty mystery, brought to life by a vibrant cast and abundant historical details, will keep readers in suspense until the very end. Themes of community, representation, and sisterhood add an emotionally satisfying element to the narrative.” This ARC was provided by the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. 📚BOOK REVIEW 📚 💜🧪THE LOVE HYPOTHESIS BY ALI HAZELWOOD This book was SO GOOD! Absolutely loved every page of it. It was a slow burn kind of romance book that really allows you to get to know all characters intimately. I find when authors take their time with the relationships and the friendships, you appreciate the story (and in the case of romance books, the steamy scenes) so much more. I loved Olive as the female main character. She was so vulnerable and human. There were definitely parts that had me frustrated but in a good way. I just really wanted Olive and Adam to end up together so when things got in the middle of that right when they were close to finally kissing or discussing their feelings I absolutely needed to know what happened. I haven’t had a book do that for me in quite some time. I also really appreciated the fact that the author wrote about Olive being an academic in STEM and the pressures that come with that, especially surrounding gender. I was PISSED when the Tom part came up (iykyk). I wanted to punch that guy in the face through the pages. Being in a male-dominated field myself, I know how hard it can be when you put in so much hard work only to be judged based on gender. It’s extremely frustrating so I really felt for Olive in that moment. I also loved the authors note at the end about why she writes about females in academia and why these issues are important to address in literature. Today’s the day! After an incredible 3.5 weeks traveling across Europe and meeting so many incredible readers and several of my wonderful overseas publishers, I’m finally headed back to the states to hunker down and get serious about edits for Wisteria. The Wish Granter, by CJ Redwine 📚 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This surprised me!! I was disappointed with The Shadow Queen, and so l had low expectations coming into the second book of the series, but this was really enjoyable🤩 Thoughts: -the cover is just gorgeous!!✅ -I really liked the characters. Ari was a strong MC, funny and very open. Sebastian was my fav character in this— he had such a sad past, but he was so cute and his thoughts were so sweet😭 I loved his quiet personality, though he was dedicated to his cause and ruthless when need be. The characters were great🥹✅ -I didn’t like how easily everything worked out for Lorelai in The Shadow Queen (book 1), but this was brutal! The characters faced SO many challenges, I enjoyed watching them overcome these. It made the plot interesting ✅ -Teague was a good villain. He had motive and his magic use was clearly defined.✅ -the world building was brilliant! ✅ -the romance was perfect. I loved both characters so obviously I loved their connection. The build up was *chefs kiss* ✅ -the characters made some tough choices, but I wasn’t entirely sure if I agreed with their morals and decision making sometimes🤔😶 -i dislike when characters are resurrected. 😶 -I’d have liked to see the drug idea in the story progress further, or have some deeper use in the novel and tie in with the ending😶 This is my post for @readinginpyjamas ‘s #bloomandreadapril , prompt: a four star book I recommend!! 🤖🌿The Wild Robot🌿🤖 Such a fun coincidence that I just finished this book and it’s coming to theatres soon! I’m pretty excited to see this 🥰 Roz finds herself shipwrecked and deserted on an island where all the native creatures think she is a monster. She finds an orphaned goose egg and starts to befriend the animals in hopes that they can help her be a mother. The Wild Robot was a truly sweet read! An easy Middle Grade book that is filled with found family and a journey of finding yourself. I loved this book. The characters were simple and sweet. I loved all the different animals we met and who helped out lovely Roz. Jakie trendy w młodzieżówkach królują obecnie? 🧐 Jeśli chodzi o fantastykę, to motyw fae i elfów trzyma się całkiem nieźle, oprócz tego często trafiam też na książki z motywem turnieju o wysoką stawkę oraz takie z zagadkami, łamigłówkami i grą o fortunę. Coś jeszcze przychodzi Wam do głowy? 🤔 Czytając obecne młodzieżówki często mam wrażenie, że zlewają mi się one w jedną historię, że czytam w kółko to samo 🙈 Nie przeszkadza mi to, gdy historia jest dobra, fajnie napisana i mimo schematów wnosi coś nowego, ale jednak jest coś takiego, że gdy czytam młodzieżówki wydane 10-15 lat temu, to czuję "powiew świeżości", coś innego i aż mam ochotę powiedzieć "kiedyś to było!" 😁 Trylogia Mara Dyer autorstwa Michelle Hodkin to właśnie taka historia. Napisana 13 lat temu, gdy w literaturze królowały inne trendy, co widać i co bardzo mi się podoba 💜 Nowy, młodzieżowy imprint wydawnictwa @insignis_media , czyli @wydawnictwostorylight postanowiło na początek swojej działalności wydać właśnie trylogię o Marze Dyer i dla mnie to strzał w dziesiątkę 🙌 Te książki to coś, co obecnie rzadko można spotkać w literaturze młodzieżowej: thriller paranormalny, opowiadający o dziewczynie, która przeszła ogromną traumę i o tym, jak teraz próbuje poradzić sobie w nowej rzeczywistości, gdy umysł zdaje się płatać jej figle, a przeszłość nie chce odejść w zapomnienie. Główna bohaterka w tragicznym wypadku straciła przyjaciółkę, chłopaka i jego siostrę. Sama uszła z tego z życiem, jednak nie pamięta co się wydarzyło tej strasznej nocy. Hello happy Indie Bookstore Day friends! 🐰🐰 Where are your ancestors from? I’m like 95% Scottish/Irish/English with 3 of my dad’s grandparents coming from Scotland. I’m also a little bit Swedish! 🐰🐰 It was so fun to read Kilt Trip by @akileybooks knowing that such a big part of me is Scottish 😄 ✨Review✨ Travel consultant Addie Macrae is sent to Scotland (where her parents had their honeymoon. Her mom has died so Scotland is kind of a sore subject) to help a family owned business redesign their tours to try to make more money. She meets the son of the owner Logan Sutherland and sparks fly. But Logan doesn’t want to change anything about his company. Will the chemistry they feel overcome the changes that need to be made to the company? I really liked both Addie and Logan. Their chemistry was immediate and sizzling. Addie was determined to do a good job redesigning the tours since the company she works for is relatively new. She starts out certain she knows how to help, but the way that Logan runs his tours and makes connections with the people on the tour starts to make her resolution crumble. Logan really cared about Addie, but was afraid that she would leave after her job and forget about him just like he felt his brothers did when they left the tour company. The plot moved along really well, we got a lot of Scottish history and learned about a lot of well known and not so well known places. There was a really nice mix of the work Addie and Logan were trying to do, the fun tours and the romance. There were 2 narrators for the audiobook. They were both fantastic. I’m a little more than halfway through The Familiar and I’m really enjoying it! The beginning was a bit hard to get into but once the story started moving it’s been very fast paced! I like Luzia I think she’s such an interesting character and I’m loving her dynamic with Santangel! I’m interested to see where their relationship goes and how it evolves by the end of the book.
