April reading recap! I read several fantastic books, but alas, my favorite was “A Crown of Chains” by @erinphillipsauthor This book surprised me so much! I wasn’t sure what I was getting with a Biblical retelling, but it turned out to be what I needed this month. Phillips did take creative liberties through things such as a fantastical world with fairies, satyrs, gnomes, and other creatures (the world building reminds me so much of the WebToon “Suitor Armor”). The more potentially-controversial changes were making Uncle Arsin (Malachi) a power hungry, almost non-religious character and having Roxana struggle with her faith. I see why some readers would not appreciate, however, as a writer, I understand the need for imperfect characters who need to change. And change they do. Roxana finds faith again, finds connection to God, and I found that to be powerful, to be a story worth telling and reading again and again. Even though I know how the story of Esther goes, I was on tenterhooks wondering will happen next and how in the world will we reach the end. I loved this book and absolutely recommend it. It is dark in terms of showing a cruel world with an even crueler king on the throne, but I didn’t find the violence to be gratuitous. #acrownofchains #Estherretelling #fantasyBiblicalretellings #booksofthemonth #fivestarread #AprilReads #BookRecap #BookishFavorites #ReadingWrapUp #BookwormLife #MustReads #BookObsessed #BookNerd #BookRecommendations #FavoriteBooks #BookLove #Bookstagram #CurrentReads #BookAddict #BookStack #BookishHaul #BooksToRead #BookishJoy #BookishLove #BookishDelights #ReadingCommunity

𝖣𝗈 𝗒𝗈𝗎 𝗆𝖺𝗍𝖼𝗁 𝗍𝗁𝖾 𝖻𝗈𝗈𝗄𝗆𝖺𝗋𝗄 𝗍𝗈 𝗍𝗁𝖾 𝖻𝗈𝗈𝗄? Hi lovelies! It’s the last day of April, can you believe it? Matching the bookmark to the book is something I’ve started doing recently, and it’s so aesthetically pleasing. This is my current read (The unmaking of June Farrow) and my current bookmark. It’s such a great match. I’m also hoping to finish this book today, because you know… last day of the month and all that jazz. 200 pages, I can do that right?😂 Now, let’s make this a challenge. Show off your current read and your current bookmark. Tagging a few, but consider yourself tagged if you want to do this❤️ Btw, I’m trying out a new look for my pics. Current series I’m reading through: - His Dark Materials - Wayfarer Series - The Expanse Series to start: - Assassins Apprentice (CR) - King of Scars Duology - Crescent City - started CC1 My fav series: - Harry Potter - A Song of Ice and Fire - Alphabet Series What’s your favourite series? My current reads - No Peace Until He’s Dead is emotionally, very heavy so I needed something to read alongside it because I have had to take a couple of breathers. Amanda is so brave and I have so much admiration for her & her journey to recovery. Also - at the start of the year my reading goal was 20 books for the year; which was ambitious, I’d thought, as I had a baby and would be be returning to work so when would I have time to read? Well, once I finish these two, I’ll have read 21 books this year which is proof that when you stop ‘doom scrolling’, you actually have more time than you think! 🫣😂 🏷️ #nopeaceuntilhesdead #memoir #thesilentpatient #thesilentpatientbyalexmichaelides #goodreads #goodreadschallenge #bookstagram #booksta #currentreads

📚 Hey bookworms! 🌟 What’s on your reading list right now? I’m always on the lookout for my next literary adventure! 📖✨ Speaking of which, I’m about to dive into a new and exciting book: The Bookbinder of Jericho by Pip Williams. . Synopsis- It is 1914, and as the war draws the young men of Britain away to fight, women must keep the nation running. Two of those women are Peggy and Maude, twin sisters who live on a narrow boat in Oxford and work in the bindery at the university press. Ambitious, intelligent Peggy has been told for most of her life that her job is to bind the books, not read them—but as she folds and gathers pages, her mind wanders to the opposite side of Walton Street, where the female students of Oxford’s Somerville College have a whole library at their fingertips. Maude, meanwhile, wants nothing more than what she has: to spend her days folding the pages of books in the company of the other bindery girls. She is extraordinary but vulnerable, and Peggy feels compelled to watch over her. Then refugees arrive from the war-torn cities of Belgium, sending ripples through the Oxford community and the sisters’ lives. Peggy begins to see the possibility of another future where she can educate herself and use her intellect, not just her hands. But as war and illness reshape her world, her love for a Belgian soldier—and the responsibility that comes with it—threaten to hold her back. . . Can’t wait to lose myself in its pages! Stay tuned for updates and let me know what captivating worlds you’re exploring at the moment! . . A special thank you to @vintagebooks for the gifted copy! 💙 . #currentreads #newadventure #booklovers #thedictionaryoflostwords #pipwilliamsauthor #vintagebooks #newbook #bookworm #readtogether #readtolead #bibliophile

📚 Book Review 📚 Title: Serial Encounters Author: Various authors listed on synopsis Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️ / 5 I have mixed feelings about this book, as I mostly do when reading a series of short stories. Not every single story can be a hit, and some most definitely were not. I had an issue with two in particular, these being "Close Encounters of the ER Kind" and "David and His Dog." Both of these drew slightly too much from the world of fiction when working with the stories of real-life serial killers who took many innocent lives. I just couldn't enjoy them as much as it started bordering slightly on the disrespectful side for me. Most of the stories were rooted in reality, with slight changes made to not include real victims or their families, which I appreciated. I sometimes got so lost in the horror of some of these, only to read the slight blurb each story has at the end naming the killer, their victim count, and the consequences they faced. Only then do you remember that a lot of what is depicted here actually happened, and nothing is more horrific than that. I also ended up learning about two serial killers who I had never heard of before, which was more interesting to me than the infamous ones everyone knows. I thought it was overall a good book, but I feel you always need to tread carefully when talking about true events, and not all of these managed to do this successfully. Overall, a 3 star read for me. #boostagram #books #bookworms #bookdragon #booklover #booklovers #bibliophile #readmorebooks #reading #tbr #currentreads #reading #serialencounters #hellboundbookspublishing #horrorbooks #serialkillerbooks #fiction #bookreview #books

Decolonizing Therapy: a vital read for anyone who considers themselves a “Healthcare Provider” This book offers us a crucial framework for reshaping perspectives within the healthcare field. By challenging oppressive practices ingrained in Western institutions, the author encourages a shift towards more inclusive, compassionate, and ancestral approaches to healing. For medical professionals, including physicians, therapists, psychiatrists, naturopaths, basically anyone who considers themselves a “healthcare provider,” embracing a decolonized lens is essential for promoting true healing, addressing systemic inequalities and intergenerational trauma. Whether you’re in the early stages of your career or a seasoned “practitioner,” you will get valuable insights that can transform the way we understand and practice healthcare. I think it’s time we dismantle white supremacy from institutions one field at a time. This ones for my fellow oppressed healthcare workers! What! This! Week! I’m back to my old habit of having 3 books going at the same time: one physical, one electronic and one on audio. I’m so jazzed about all of these stories and I truly can’t consume any of them fast enough. 📚 reading • Morning Star • The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes • Funny Story (shoutout to @browardlibrary for the last two 🤪) 🎧 listening to • lots of rock • mostly grunge • Noah Kahan sprinkled between System of a Down 🤷🏻‍♀️ 📺 watching • the usual me stuff - YouTube. I’ve been into Sidequest (a group of friends who play video games) and I’m watching today’s Game Grumps upload as I type this 👀 looking forward to: • getting stronger! I tried out a group class at a gym earlier today and loved it. Everyone there was so sweet and welcoming and it was exactly what I wanted, I just wish it was closer than 30 minutes from me 😪 • taking a calligraphy class this week! • spending another day at the beach this weekend for a baby shower 👶 What are y’all looking forward to this week?

✨️Currently reading The Love Fixers by Angela Casella✨️ Claire A few hours after losing my job, I get a call from a stranger who claims I’ve inherited property from my father. I assume it’s a scam, because my dad is very much alive. Turns out my mother is the liar. I board a flight to my bio-dad’s hometown, hoping for answers, but the turbulence is so bad I worry we won’t make it. Declan, the hot, tattooed hunk next to me, is obviously terrified too. When the plane freefalls for half a second, he kisses me with the passion of a man who thinks he’s about to die. He seems to regret it immediately afterward—and we both regret it when we discover he’s my new next door neighbor, a complication neither of us wants. To make matters worse, it turns out my bio-dad’s cabin is only half mine. The rest belongs to a half-sister I didn’t know I had—Nicole, a pink-haired private investigator and possible psychopath. If I weren’t unemployed and broke, I’d leave, but this crappy half-a-house is my only possession. So I stay in the hopes that I can convince her to sell. Unfortunately, she seems intent on setting me up with Declan, among other manipulations, and her matchmaking tactics are…extreme. Declan I came to the mountains to hide and be left alone, and now I’m never alone. Every time I turn a corner, I run into Claire Rainey. She’s tempting as hell, particularly now that I’ve had a taste of her, but I know better than to wrap her up in my trouble—or get wrapped up in hers. #booktok #bookstagram #currentreads #bookblog #bookbuddies #tbr #books #readingtime #bookreview #bookrecommendations #readingaddict #readingcommunity #bookmoments #quotes #aesthetic #readersofinstagram #audioble #tropes #giveaways #thelovefixers

📚 Book Review 📚 Wow, I didn't keep up with reviews as I'd hoped to, but thankfully it is #bookstareviewweek with @mommaleighellensbooknook and @jm_bibliolater so now I have some extra motivation to get some reviews up this week! Adelaide by Genevieve Wheeler ⭐⭐⭐ The titular character is an American living in London. Adelaide studied abroad in London, returned to the states, and then found herself back in London. She has a steady career and two close girlfriends, and she is hoping to fall in love. Then she meets Rory Hughes. Adelaide is smitten and is hopeful this is the guy for her. But there are lots of ups and downs for Adelaide. I wasn't very fond of some of the interactions between Rory and Adelaide and I think she put up with some deal breakers she shouldn't have, but that's just me. I did really enjoy the support she received from her friends and family. Adelaide definitely grows as a person through the story and that was enjoyable to witness Overall this was a good read and I would recommend it to readers who enjoy romance/relationship stories. Adelaide is in her 20s, so younger readers will likely enjoy living vicariously through her experience. I read the book along with audiobook which was well done by reader Caitlin Kelly. #bookstagram #books #reading #comereadwithB #currentreads #ilovereading #booknerd #booklover #goodreads  #bibliophile #bookworms #bookaddict #bookshelf #igreads #booksofinstagram #bookreview #audibook

Ignite and Tempt by Melanie Harlow I decided to post these together because I found it really interesting: same author, same series, same set of sisters for the FMC… and I felt totally differently about them. I liked the writing style for the most part in both and I liked the MCs. But man, the general tropes and plots made my feelings almost opposites. ❤️❤️❤️ Ignite– I was actually in between two and three hearts on this one… so there were definitely things that bugged. But I’m choosing to focus more on the positive! I loved Winnie; she is so bright and cheery and fun! I loved her friendships and relationships with her family and how much she loves Dex’s little girls. And speaking of whom… those girls were adorable! I loved their shenanigans and how Dex is wrapped around their little fingers. 🥰 Dex wasn’t my favorite MMC just because he is sooo stubborn, but I loved how much he wants to protect the people he cares about and what a great dad he is trying to be. ❤️🤍🤍 Tempt– I was actually in between zero and one heart on this one. It was a lot more angsty and filled with turmoil. Forbidden relationship, sneaking around, etc. 😬 It also had a lot of soapboxing about different body types. Per usual for me, the topic is important, but that’s not why I read. 🤷‍♀️ Ultimately I think the romance part of the plot was pretty shallow, so the story needed something else to give it legs. Otherwise the we-shouldn’t-be-together-now-that-we-know-who-you-are-but-we’re-going-to-do-it-anyway just dragged on and on. Anyway! I just found it interesting to have such different feelings about two books in the same series around the same characters. ❤️❤️❤️ Love it. ❤️❤️🤍 Good, not great. ❤️🤍🤍 Didn’t hate it. 🤍🤍🤍 Nope. #judgingbooksbythecover #reading #booknerd #booksofinstagram #bookclub #readingtime #bookphoto #readabook #totalbooknerd #getlit #bookrecommendations #greatreads #iread #fortheloveofreading #booksaremagic #idratherbereading #currentreads #booksarelove #momswhoread #bookblog #goodreads #bookblogging #booknerdigans #booksofinsta #ireadbooks #bookstagram

I put off reading my last Casey McQuiston book because I already loved 𝘙𝘦𝘥 𝘞𝘩𝘪𝘵𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘙𝘰𝘺𝘢𝘭 𝘉𝘭𝘶𝘦 and 𝘖𝘯𝘦 𝘓𝘢𝘴𝘵 𝘚𝘵𝘰𝘱 so much that I figured there was no way this author could write 3 books in a row that I love…right? I know, that was dumb. 𝘐 𝘒𝘪𝘴𝘴𝘦𝘥 𝘚𝘩𝘢𝘳𝘢 𝘞𝘩𝘦𝘦𝘭𝘦𝘳 was so adorable and I loved it! This one was their young adult debut so it’s a little different than the other books but it was still a great rom-com that also explores some important topics. I loved the mystery, clues, and self-discovery in this hilarious and heart-warming story. Chloe frustrated me a bit too much but I still loved the story. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 𝗤𝗢𝗧𝗗: What book are you finishing April with?

Where I’d rather be & reading update! Do you prefer reading at the beach or the pool?☀️ The weather is finally getting nice and I literally want nothing more than to be at the beach with my book and a cold drink, but unfortunately work is a thing so that will have to wait🙃 But here’s a mini reading update!!: I’m 81% through ZODIAC ACADEMY 9: RESTLESS STARS and I am taking my good old time with this one. Not because I want to, but because my heart genuinely can’t handle this series coming to an end, or anymore emotional devastation. I think I might lose a piece of my soul when I finish this series. Am I being dramatic? No🤩 I’m listening to WILD RIVER by Laura Pavlov. This is book 2 in her Magnolia Falls series and I just love Laura’s writing and her small towns. I’m sure this one will be great like the rest of them!! I’m also reading FIVE BROKEN BLADES by Mai Corland. This book comes out on 5/7 and I was sent an ARC from Red Tower Books. I’m really loving it so far, but I took a break when ZA9 came out! So I’ll jump back into this one when I finish that one. And last I’m still making my way through WILD LOVE by Elsie Silver. Unfortunately this one isn’t 100% doing it for me. It’s not bad, but it’s currently sitting at a 3⭐️ and I’m about 60% through. I don’t have a lot of desire to pick it up, but I’m hoping the later half is better for me!! #currentreads #currentlyreading #bookishaesthetic #beachreads

Ashton Lattimore did an outstanding job on her debut novelAll We Were Promised.  Set in 1837 Philadelphia, this story chronicles the lives of three women, Charlotte, Nell, and Evie who are all on a mission to get what they are promised by the world.  The right to live in this land and be truly free.  All We Were Promised, revolves around resilience, friendship, and the ultimate sacrifice. This story was a thought-provoking masterpiece. There were times I had empathy for the characters, laughed with them and felt their sorrow.  I could see another book about Nell, Charlotte and Evie’s abolitionist work because Nell was too determined to do more than have meetings and talk about the issues.   The story builds slowly from the beginning to middle and then begins to pick up.  I didn’t mind because there was so much to take in from beginning to end.  The true historical references were weaved into the story perfectly and caused me to do a lot of research of my own.  For instance, the burning of Pennsylvania Hall, the Grimké sisters, Robert Bogle, Hetty Reckless and Robert Purvis.  Please read the authors note.  She provides more facts that show how she tied the true history into the story.  I am looking forward to Ms. Lattimore’s next book.  ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Written by: @ashtonlattimore Narrated by: Shayna Small . . . #booktrend #bookcommunity #currentreads #bookstagram #bookworm #blackauthors #bibliophile #diversereads #bookblogger #monthlygoals #booklover #bookclub #booktok #currentlyreading #booktok #blackbookstagram #2024readingchallenge #april2024 #bookworm #bookgoals #AshtonLattimore #AllWeWerePromised #ShaynaSmall #historicalfiction #slavery #blackauthors #blacknarrators #blackwomenauthor #abolitionist @prhaudio @penguinrandomhouse

Pd. M’he marejat amb tant mar, tant vent i tantes onades. Déu n’hi do quin món ens ha muntat Ursula K. Le Guin! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (🎧) I haven’t been disappointed by a Reid Read 🤭 yet! Blurb; “When Lauren and Ryan’s marriage reaches the breaking point, they come up with an unconventional plan. They decide to take a year off in the hopes of finding a way to fall in love again. One year apart, and only one rule: they cannot contact each other. Aside from that, anything goes. Lauren embarks on a journey of self-discovery, quickly finding that her friends and family have their own ideas about the meaning of marriage. These influences, as well as her own healing process and the challenges of living apart from Ryan, begin to change Lauren’s ideas about monogamy and marriage. She starts to question: When you can have romance without loyalty and commitment without marriage, when love and lust are no longer tied together, what do you value? What are you willing to fight for?” The Review; a beautifully paced, heartwarming, intoxicating story about self discovery & love. I can never say enough about how fluid and thoughtful TJR is. Maybe I’m leaning more bias with every read, but she is a lit fic master. I really enjoyed the narration on the audiobook and I’m so happy with all the character development in this book. Side characters felt just as important as MCs. The Takeaway; this book is a beautiful reminder to love and value the blessings you have, but also that you’re allowed to question, change, and strive for more.

Happy Monday!! I hope everyone had a fantastic weekend, though I know we will probably all agree it was too short! Happy Monday Everyone. 📚☕️📚☕️ Starting my week the best possible way with the new @emilyhenrywrites Book, Funny Story. Another book I’m super excited about reading. Funny Story by Emily Henry - Daphne always loved the way Peter told their story. That is until it became the prologue to his actual love story with his childhood bestie, Petra. Which is how Daphne ends up rooming with her total opposite and the only person who could possibly understand her predicament: Petra’s ex, Miles. As expected, it’s not a match made in heaven – that is until one night, while tossing back tequilas, they form a plan. And if it involves posting deliberately misleading photos of their adventures together, well, who could blame them? But it’s all just for show, of course, because there’s no way Daphne would actually start her new chapter by falling in love with her ex-fiancé’s new fiancée’s ex . . . right? 📚☕️📚☕️ #funnystory #emilyhenry #currentlyreading #currentread #currentreads #autobuyauthors #autobuyauthor #perfectbook #fivestarreads #bookstagram #igreads #booksofig #booksofinsta #books #reading #readstagram #readsofinstagram #readsofig #bookshelf #bookshelves #bookshelvesofinstagram #readfiction #fictionreads #fiction #fictionbooks #bookblogger #lovebooks #booksmakemehappy #coffee #coffeeandbooks

Q: Wat is jullie current read? Q: What is your current read? Zoals jullie zien vond ik het weer eens lastig om één boek te kiezen wat ik wil lezen, dus bestaat mijn cr op dit moment uit deze drie boeken 🥰 As you can see, once again I found it hard to choose one book to read, so my cr at the moment consists of these three books 🥰 • • • #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #dutchbookstagram #dutchbookstagrammer #bookstagramnl #boekstagram #currentread #currentreads #dodelijkewraak #robertbryndza #stolenheir #heartless #sophielark #elsiesilver #chesnutsprings #chestnutspringsseries #brutalbirthright #brutalbirthrightseries #lethalvengeance

✨self care✨ My self care these days looks a lot like this: after my 10 month old goes to bed, showered, in my robe, on my couch, with ice cream and the newest book that I’m hoping will keep my attention 😂 So far, this one is really really good! It’s hooked me and I’m having trouble staying interested in books lately. ✨ what does your self-care look like?

CR: The Nightingale by @kristinhannahauthor I know I’m late to the party with this one, but I finally started reading this book over the weekend. Despite its popularity, I did not anticipate it being such a page-turner. Since the very beginning, I’ve been completely engrossed in this story. I can already tell this is going to be an emotional read for me, but I am prepared to embrace it. Thank you @sierraluzier for gifting me this book. 💙 This is my first Kristin Hannah book. Have you read this or some of her other books? Tell me your favorites. If you haven’t, what are some of your must-read historical fiction books?

Coffee and Current Read 📖 I am really pushing to finish this before May so I can have at least a couple books to show my April Wrapped 🫣 but I’m finding this book to be intriguingly charming so it’s not hard I also love this song with this book (and will also be endeavoring to find a purpose for every TTPD song until I run out so it’s all in the journey 😂😂) Happy (or let’s try to make it happy with books) Monday!

• Current reads • Audio book: The Roughest Draft Physical reads: Spy X Family Just for the Summer Powerless - - - I really thought I would enjoy The Roughest Draft a lot more than I have, so I switched to audio book. Spy X Family I’m taking my time with because I love it so much. Just for the Summer has held my attention a lot more than most books do. I love the writing style as much it’s more dialogue than description. It’s funny, but I know there are going to be some sad moments just six chapters in. current reads! 💙🍋 I’ve been slowly getting through Taming 7 and I absolutely love it, I just have been so busy with school and prepping for finals and have had barely any time to read. I also just picked up The Seven Year Slip, I’ve been looking forward to reading it for a while because I’ve heard the best things about it! I started my acotar reread a couple months ago and I left off finishing acomaf and since I don’t have the physical books with me right now I started listening to the graphic audios of the rest of the series. It has been so amazing to listen to these stories with a full cast! 🦋Finally out of my reading slump!!! Woohooo🤸🏻‍♀️ Last week was all I didn't want it to be in terms of reading. No book was able to break through the wretched slump. But finally Sunday had some mercy on me and I'm back at it again😎 But this post is to showcase this beautiful necklace @the.jonaki gifted me. I mean just look at that purple butterfly 😍 Thank you so much for such a lovely gift💜🦋 Swipe 👉🏻 to see the pendant closely. 💭Did you catch butterflies as a kid? What are you reading today? I caught a yellow butterfly once and I got so scared of harming it, I immediately released it. It left its colour on my fingertips.

My komboloi isnt exactly a rosary but I still feel like it fits & my little Naxian pomegranate finally gets a moment to shine ✨ The Familiar- 4⭐️ I love Leigh Bardugo’s writing. There’s a familiarity to it (pun not intended) that I gravitate towards. For the most part I really enjoyed the writing in The Familiar. However the pacing and development especially in the first half were not my favorite. I don’t think luzia’s powers, and how santángel’s powers impacted her were described well enough. With this book being titled “The Familiar” i expected more delving into that aspect of the book and Santángel’s character. I think developing towards the Torneo happened too quick. Even Luzia and Santángel’s romance was unconvincing at first, just because there wasn’t much build up chemistry and we find out about their feelings towards each other around the same time and just in a few sentences each time. I wish in the beginning there were a few hints towards it to build it more. However, I loved their romance in the last half / third of the book. I loved the ending of this book soooo much. I loved reading about a character, especially a female marginalized character who is unafraid to want and act on her wants. She acts brashly and in unlikable ways occasionally, and I love a flawed female character. I really wish I was more informed on the Spanish Inquisition and the time period this is set because I think it would’ve made me enjoy the historical aspects of this book much more. I still did enjoy it a lot. I liked the parts where different events would coincide or Leigh would explain different events at once in shorter paragraphs. Leigh Bardugo is an instant buy author for me, and this book solidified that once again. It makes me unfathomably excited to get back into the world of Ninth House when the third book releases. 🖤🤍
