Hace hoy 51 años se apagaba la maravillosa voz de Nino Bravo. Éxitos como "Libre", "un beso y una flor", "América, América", "Noelia" o "la puerta del amor" fueron y son clásicos que siguen sonando a día de hoy. Luis Manuel Ferri Llopis, su nombre real, tenía apenas 28 años y dejaba a su viuda embarazada de su segunda hija. Nino Bravo falleció en Villarrubio, Cuenca, en un accidente de coche cuando viajaba en su BMW 2800L junto a su guitarrista y el duo "Humo". Los 4 heridos fueron llevados al pueblecito de Tarancón donde recibieron los primeros auxilios, siendo Nino posteriormente trasladado a Madrid en la única ambulancia disponible. Por desgracia, falleció antes de llegar al hospital. Nipsey Hussle, born Ernias Joseph Ashgedom, was assassinated five years ago, yesterday, in front of his business, the Marathon, in South Central LA. The musician, community activist, entrepreneur, husband and father was 33 years old. 29 year-old Eric Holder was arrested, charged and sentenced for the murder of Hussle, but to this day many insiders still question who was behind Hussle's sudden take down. According to the prosecution, Holder took offense to Hussle accusing him of being a "snitch" and retaliated. However, there remains the possibility that Holder, a low level gang-member, was working on behalf of someone else. Speculation varies widely with theories ranging from Hussle's ex-manager Big U seeking to limit Hussle's newfound success; to the LAPD who would have had word that Nipsey was scheduled to have an important meeting with city officials the following day to curb gang violence in the Crenshaw community; to forces from the federal government that saw Nipsey's ascendant star as a threat to its own dominion among Black communities and wanted to quash it. What is certain is that Nipsey's short life left behind a deep, lasting legacy. 50+ murals were painted around LA, including at the Marathon, to commemorate the man. Musicians and artists worldwide paid tribute to him, and Puma put out a Marathon Clothing collection with 100% of proceeds going to Nipsey's neighborhood foundation. The intersection of Crenshaw and Slauson Blvd near Nipsey's store was renamed Ermias "Nipsey Hussle" Asghedom Square to honor his legacy to the community. Sometimes magic happens…. This afternoon while I was leading a memorial service in the stunning indoor/outdoor Secret Garden function room of the Marion Hotel we had a photo presentation screen on a big TV. As Joni Mitchell’s voice graced the space with Both Sides Now, so did the very loud, beautiful and intent birdsong of a willie wagtail who perched itself up on the fence behind me and sang its little heart out. The young woman we were gathered to farewell was a vet nurse, who would have happily cared for all of the world’s creatures if she’d had her way. I think we are getting closer to the end of our time together. No matter what I do medically his legs keep getting weaker and more painful. He’s only 7. I can’t believe how quickly this has progressed, which just makes it that much more difficult. I’m keeping track of his good days and his bad days, when the bad outweigh the good I’ll have to make one of the most painful decisions of my life.
