Last year at this time, I had a full arm cast. Now I'm back flying down bike trails. I can feel both hands firmly on the bars with no need to take breaks due to pain. Tonight was my first ride in 1.5 years, and what a frigging joy it was at the @jordielunnbikepark . It feels so good to feel like yourself again... parking lot apres definitely helps. I told myself that I was done riding for the week after Monday, but I couldn’t resist getting out for a light ride this evening. No wind, and the temperature at sunset was perfect. The bugs must have thought the same thing because I’m pretty sure I inhaled close to a dozen buffalo gnats. I found that turning my head and taking breaths like a swimmer seemed to help😆. Regardless, the bike seems to be rolling great. I’ll spend some time tomorrow going over everything and getting travel ready so we can leave on Friday. Indy mini Saturday morning!
am humbled beyond measure! Today I had the opportunity to speak to a dedicated group of professionals at the Hartford during an extremely well moderated Fireside chat. As an ambassador of the Hartfords adaptive sports program it was my distinct honor to represent. I was welcomed by such a warm environment that created a safe space to share my story. We talked about human achievement, Paralympic struggles and triumphs, sources of motivation and inspiration, professional transitions, and even shared some laughs in the process. Plus, they fed me well which is the best way to get me to return! I am very proud to represent the Hartford Adaptive sports program and grateful for this valuable experience. A major highlight of the afternoon was being presented a giant check as the Hartford Southeast Workplace Community made a generous contribution to @flywithoutlimitsfoundation as many of you know, I launched Fly Without Limits in November of 2023 and the outpouring of support we've had so far makes me very emotional. I put my heart into everything we do and with supporters like this we will continue to make an impact in the disability community for many years to come. Sharona's journey is nothing short of extraordinary, and recently, she received an invitation that took her breath away—a chance to speak at the White House. Meet Betty, our Assistant Program Director! Fun fact: She has been in the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans in one day! Take that Forrest Gump! 🌊 Betty came to the Adaptive Sports Center, as an intern in Winter 2008-2009, not in her hot dog costume - that would come later - and was entranced from the start. "I was so impressed by the professionalism of the organization, and loved working with the ASC participants, instructors, and volunteers. I knew it was something in line with my professional goals, so I applied!" After finishing her internship and upping her costume stash, Betty applied to be an instructor the following year and hasn't left. RCL Hearts never misses “Zesummen Ennerwee” - an initiative organized by all 14 Rotary clubs in Luxembourg to provide a day of conviviality for those with disabilities. 2023 marked its 40th edition, with more than 500 people with disabilities spending the day engaging in various activities on the water, in the air, on the roads, in the woods, at the lake, in the zoo, in oldtimer vehicles, on tractors, in carriages, on horseback, on motorbikes, by boat, and even by plane. HRH the Grand Duke, an honorary member of the Rotary of Luxembourg, and the Grand Duchess also joined us. They paid tribute to Lucien Emringer, the former governor who initiated the event in 1983, before interacting with the delighted participants. Based on the weather forecast for the rest of the week, and on communications with Wilsonville Little League, we are officially canceling our games on Saturday. There is no way the fields will dry out and be safe for our players. Wilsonville LL has generously agreed to host us on our open date on May 18th instead. While we understand this decision has been made pretty early in the week, there are a lot of behind the scenes logistics involved that have made it necessary to make the call now.
