My #tall #athlete, my much adored #older #son, is pictured here with HIS young #athletes, HIS #sons, at #GreatSandDunesNationalpark on #Fathersday three years ago. Richmond and Quinn are both #extremelytall, #handsome, really funny #kids, as my son and his #brother are. Moreover, my son and his (truly #beautiful #wife, whom we absolutely adore), are #wonderfulparents, incredibly involved in the #lives and pursuits of their #boys. This is but one of a multitude of #places that Manny and Gabrielle have taken the #lads. My son sought, and received, a wonderful job in Denver, and from the #homebase of #Colorado, these kids have explored #LIFE, #traveled and experienced new things. Swipe for a de-colonised history lesson- The historical erasure of tawaifs as experts of Urdu, music, poetry and literature- and their subsequent labelling as simple prostitutes was strategic and ruthless. Predictably, their influence and power as independent, property owning women was a big thorn in the side of colonialists and Hindu nationalists. Honestly, it gets ridiculous how predictable and repetivive history is. We always wanted to highlight this lost history somehow, so of course thought to draw an illustration of a tawaif (in a fantasy setting with a handsome, respectfully listening man- as she deserves). We gave him a beard for mother's sake, but unfortunately for her he still has his locks :D. Funnily enough we had this same conversations about Tawaif with two different people who had posted something about it on their story. I'm really glad in this day and age some of our generation is re-learning and de-colonising their history. There's too many powerful women erased as a result of colonisation and...salty men. Also, we actually drew this back in January but we stopped liking this illustration because we drew it in our kitties last few days. Since this drawing is just attached to the memory of his passing we decided to try to make it positive, so a baby ginger cat spirit is enjoying himself in here (blepping of course). My series, The Old World Saga, finally has a logo! And it is brilliant! I know I like doing things in reverse order, but better late than never. I was put in touch with a European graphics artist, Henric Sjolin, by a friend locally and got far better results than earlier attempts with online platforms. Just goes to show the lesson (we all already know) that if you surround yourself with skilled people, eventually you'll find ones that can help you out in your circle.
