12 Angry Men is one of my all-time favourite films. It’s a perfect film, and such a powerful example of how we all can make a difference out there if we don’t take the easy route. The cast is uniformely great. This was Sidney Lumet’s first film, in a career that gave us many unforgettable entries.

Fail Safe (1964) Directed by Sidney Lumet • • • I’ve been enjoying watching these movies from Sidney Lumet. This one ended up on my watchlist because it had a very similar premise to Kubrick’s Dr Strangelove, which also came out the same year. This one goes the more serious route instead of being a silly satire. Both of these succeed in showing the fear of the possibility of nuclear destruction between two powerful countries. The serious approach works well here as it progressively raises the stakes of the situation. It takes its time at first but after a certain point, things get intense and stay like that for the remainder of the movie. It’s very bleak and terrifying to see how it all unfolds over the last half. Even from the very beginning during the opening dream sequence, the movie just feels dark. The acting is good from the cast. I really liked Henry Fonda in Lumet’s earlier work 12 Angry Men (1957) and he is excellent here as well. I liked the different set of characters that represent a lot of the views that were held by people of that era. Even with 60 years passed, it still manages to have some relevance to views that people have today. Other than the deeper parts of the movie, the movie also looked great with its black and white cinematography. While I took time to get into the movie, I did really like this movie by the end of it. The ending was incredible and unforgettable, partly because of the editing choices it used to portray that scene. A harrowing, but fantastic movie that I’d definitely recommend. Watched #TheVerdict (1982) : Paul Newman was never too old for any role, and he proves why with this medical-legal drama. Vikram Bhatt made a Bollywood movie named #AnkurAroraMurderCase (2013), which was said to be based on a true event. Now, when I saw The Verdict being made in 1982, I couldn't believe that such medical negligence still happened after 4 decades. The film is about a down-on-his-luck alcoholic lawyer who accepts a medical malpractice case to improve his own situation but discovers along the way that he is doing the right thing. He is offered a huge sum to settle outside the court but denies it after seeing the lady on the hospital bed. Those pictures were really horrible. It somehow set the tone for his character and why he was right all the time. Others couldn't see it, but he could, and by the end, even juries could see it. This film is a warning to all the doctors who are good but who don't pay attention to small details, which might cause somebody its life. It's an alarm for the citizens to fight for the truth and for the court as well to make some strict laws against such practices. The screenplay could have been better, though. The film is terrible and slow in the first half, and there are so many unnecessary pauses. So many that I watched some scenes in fast-forward mode. Newman is presented as a drunkard and an old guy, but for me, he was never too old for any role. Yes, he has very few dialogues, when we actually expect a lawyer like him to speak more. The idea was to speak in a limited but effective way. It does work on the law's side, but cinematic appeal isn't that high. Lumet has made a subtle legal drama that is far from masterpieces like "Witness for the Prosecution" and "Judgement at Nuremberg." It takes time, for some unknown reasons that only Lumet can explain, but it serves justice and makes the message right. Watch it for impeccable Newman and some serious exposure to medical malpractices. Guilty or not guilty? What will it be?…… Guilty, as far as all of the jurors are concerned!! They’ve heard the evidence: a young man was heard yelling “I’m gonna kill you”, and supposedly seen, to have stabbed his own father in the chest with a knife. Open and shut! Except for one juror, juror number 8, a man named Davis (Henry Fonda) who wants to be sure of all the facts before he ends this young man’s (who is really only a kid-18 years old) life. Yep, end it. Death penalty case. Which is all the more reason to talk about the case to be sure you have the right verdict! But you know how it is, one juror has a ball game later on to get to, some others probably just want to go home…. Not to mention the jury room all the men are sequestered in is incredibly hot and stuffy! It’s summertime, the windows can open, although the fan doesn’t work, there’s water to drink, but no food, and it also starts to rain outside making the room very loud and I’m assuming humid….So it’s not a very enjoyable place to be in for long, let alone a few hours to discuss anything. But discuss they do, to the chagrin of all of the others!! Except slowly….one by one, those facts of the case they didn’t want to talk about, has them changing their minds…..All the jurors have to agree on the verdict, otherwise it’ll be a hung jury, so this changing of everyone’s minds doesn’t suit very well with one particular juror, juror number 3 (Lee J. Cobb), who seems hell-bent on a guilty verdict, no matter what! Will HIS mind be changed? The stubbornest man of them all?! Watch and see. . I haven’t seen this film in a few years but I really enjoyed rewatching it! I loved all the actor’s performances in it, and I even laughed a couple times at some of the character’s barbs and wisecracks at each other! Gosh, to be a juror in a murder case. That would be very hard. It’s also just kind of crazy in the end of the film, after the characters have had this intense experience together and just go their separate ways………..

Die Kletteraktionen fanden jedoch an Modellen im Studio statt. Ein weiter Drehort war Old Westbury Gardens auf Long Island/New York. Alfred Hitchcock berühmter Cameo Auftritt findet diesmal zu Beginn des Spielfilms statt als Mann der seinen Bus verpasst. MOVIE OF THE WEEKEND: 12 Angry Men (1957) Yesterday morning, I watched 12 Angry Men for the first official time and I really really loved it! I technically watched this is my Theory of Knowledge class my senior year of high school but I 100% slept through it which I always felt bad about so I planned to officially watch one day and I did! I expected to get a little bored of this movie but I never did. I was completely engaged the entire time. It was so good and so well done. 12 Angry Men (1957) Directed by Sidney Lumet • • • Ever since Dog Day Afternoon (1975), I’ve gained an interest in seeing more of Sidney Lumet’s movies. What better one to continue with than this all time classic. There’s good reason why this movie is still regarded as one of the best 66 years later. This movie spends a majority of the runtime in one room with 12 jurors arguing and even almost fighting. The actors are phenomenal in playing each of their respective parts. The dialogue is written exceptionally well. I loved how it would have a juror present some piece of information that made it clear the defendant was guilty, then they’d dissect it and it’s almost like I would gasp simultaneously as some of the other jurors when they basically discredited the information. It was brilliant really. It keeps you on the edge of your seat as the verdict starts off 11-1 in favor of guilty and slowly starts to go the other way. It’s fascinating seeing the motives behind everyone’s initial decision and seeing how stubborn some of them are. The climax of the movie is excellent and it all comes to a great close. And on top of all that, the movie is shot wonderfully in black and white. This is a timeless piece of cinema. In high school, I had seen parts of this or the ‘97 remake but this was the first time I watched it in full. The direction is amazing, and although the almost the entirety of the movie takes place in a single room, the movie has a huge variety of innovative camera angles and visual set-ups. The screenplay is very innovative and tight, and the acting is just superb. The brilliance of this movie, in my opinion, is the showcasing of human bias and prejudice and how it can blind people from seeing reality for what it is. What I connected with most in this movie is how far I myself have been disabled by my own assumptions about the world and how I believe it works. NIGHT MOVES. USA,1975. Director ARTHUR PENN. The recent 'Rashomon' rewatch reminded me of 12 ANGRY MEN (1957) in my watchlist and I totally regret being "guilty" for sleeping on this masterpiece for so long! First things first - How come a film that takes place entirely in a single room ended up having room for the entirety of two worlds within it, namely, reel-life world and real-life world. Being a sucker for conversational films and thrillers, I couldn't have asked for more on the reel-life cinematic front and coming to the real-life, whenever either of the two buttons of possibility and probability gets pressed, Reginald Rose's script, just like a "switch knife", springs out hidden arguments that turn out to be sharp to some while blunt to some and no matter what, each one of them pierces through so deeply to expose the gap between judgement in mind and prejudice in the heart! From killing the father and kid in 'Once Upon a Time in the West', To, standing in support of another kid accused of killing his father - I've already come to the other side of the table of Henry Fonda's range as an Actor and the Acting was uniformly r̶e̶m̶a̶r̶k̶a̶b̶l̶e̶ amazing across the board and the way each character brought something new to the table from time to time, be it in their ideologies or gestures or mannerisms made me not to care for knowing their names in order to remember them. Not even a single line is wasted in The Dialogue that's even sharper than the knife and I loved how a majority of lines foreshadow later lines in the film in order to turn the tables for finding a solution as well as resolution. From looking down on the actors in the wides during the initial portions of the film, To, looking up at the same actors in close-ups once everything gets heated up inside in contrast to the rain outside, '12 Angry Men' is a classic case of how to use blocking and staging at different stages of visual storytelling and the lighting complements everything so well by making the shadows more evident once the vote begins to get "even steven". Roger Deakins remarked that "People confuse pretty with good cinematography" and '12 Angry Men' is a must watch to know why he said (👉👉👉). (contd in comments)
