Heute Abend schaue ich mir diesen tollen Actionfilm von John Woo an: Operation: Broken Arrow. Inhalt: US-Kampfpilot Major Deakins und sein Freund Captain Hale befinden sich auf einem Testflug mit 2 Atombomben in einem Stealth-Flieger, als Deakins plötzlich Hales Schleudersitz auslöst und die Bomben in seine Gewalt bringt. Gemeinsam mit angeheuerten Söldnern erpresst er die Regierung der Vereinigten Staaten. Nachdem Deakins gegenüber einer Truppe der US-Armee zum Ausdruck gebracht hat, dass mit ihm nicht zu spaßen ist, scheint Hale die letzte Hoffnung zu sein. Wenn er es nicht schafft, Deakins zu stoppen, dann droht ein Desaster. Gemeinsam mit der Wildhüterin Terry Carmichael versucht Hale, die gestohlenen Bomben wiederzubeschaffen und die Verbrecher zur Strecke zu bringen. Deakins erweist sich aber als ziemlich harter Brocken... Fazit: Operation: Broken Arrow ist ein echt toller Actionfilm, der unglaublich viel Spaß macht, klasse unterhält, Top-Action bietet, sehr spannend ist, klasse besetzt ist und John Travolta hier in der Rolle des Bösen zu sehen, ist einfach nur grandios und ein toller Vorgeschmack auf seine Bösewicht-Performance in Face/Off, wo er ja nochmal besser war. Dead Silence (2007) was a poor man’s Saw. It was so similar in so many ways and to see it was made by the same people makes that feel pretty lame. Even that cameo by Billy felt cheap and made the movie feel more like a parody. The acting was atrocious. Ryan Kwanten was one of the most boring and unlikable protagonists I’ve seen in a while. I’m glad he got offed in the end, huge spoiler there but who cares. Donnie Wahlberg also got dragged into this and just when I was starting to like his character they offed him too. At least this is one of those movies that subverts expectations by having literally everyone die. I did like the Bob Gunton twist though, that I didn’t see coming. I’ll review a sci-fi comedy film title that I watched 🎥🎞️ Ghostbusters：Afterlife (2021) ゴーストバスターズ／アフターライフ This movie is a sequel to “Ghostbusters” and “Ghostbusters 2,” which humorously depicted the struggles of uninspiring scientists as they attempt to exterminate ghosts and created a worldwide boom in the 1980s. It depicts the activities of the granddaughter of a member of the Ghostbusters. The plot of this movie is about, A young girl, “Phoebe”moves with her mother and brother to an old mansion in the countryside left behind by her grandfather. For 30 years, earthquakes of unknown origin have been occurring frequently in this city. One day, Phoebe discovers a variety of high-tech equipment in an underground laboratory and learns that her grandfather was once part of the Ghostbusters who saved New York. Meanwhile, Phoebe accidentally opens the device “Ghost Trap” that was under the floor. Then, an eerie green light is released, and more strange things begin to attack the city. My thought about this film, the setting of the previous work was firmly inherited, and I felt that there was respect for the first work. 😊 The director passed to his son, and it was truly a new Ghost Busters. But it’s not just a regular sequel, it depicts the love between a parent and child and it has a deep content. For several years now, I’ve been telling @zel_mfp that we need to watch the #1996 film Broken Arrow. The master of #action cinema, #JohnWoo, had come to Hollywood and made some films in the #1990s. I consider it a trilogy of sorts, even though they are not connected at all, but all three are fantastic. #BrokenArrow gets the least attention, mostly because of the quality of Hard Target and Face/Off, but it really is an excellent #ActionMovie. It stars #ChristianSlater as stealth bomber pilot Riley Hale. Along with his copilot, Vic Deakins ( #JohnTravolta), they are doing a test flight of live nuclear warheads over Utah so the military can test if they can track them. Deakins planned to kill Hale and jettison the nukes. He then plans to meet with a crew that will ransom them back to the government. Hale fights back and is ejected from the plane. He is found by park ranger Terry ( #SamanthaMathis) and they team up to stop the bad guys. I enjoy the characters, action scenes, and the writing. It’s so much fun and Travolta gets to really chew the scenery as the ever more unhinged Deakins (he would get to do this again in Face/Off). You also get good supporting roles from #DelroyLindo, #BobGunton, #HowieLong, and #KurtwoodSmith. I cannot properly describe just how giddy the stylishness of Woo’s action gets me. The fight on the humvees, the one in the mine, and the finale on the train are really spectacular. So many wonderful practical effects means that they look gorgeous to this day. I especially love the final kill. I won’t spoil it, but it’s one of my favorite demises. Right up there with Knockoffs and Drop Zone. Don’t ignore this movie, you’re in for a treat when you watch it. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Sì proclamerà sempre innocente. Sconta la sua pena nel carcere di Shawshank, amministrato con biblico pugno di ferro da un direttore senza scrupoli e da guardie violente. Fa presto amicizia con Red, detenuto che contrabbanda di tutto. Il tutto è narrato da Red con alcuni elementi della "tall-tale" tipica statunitense, una sorta di storia esagerata, difficile da credere. L'impianto è pulito, semplice, quasi scolastico, e si appropria senza farne alcun segreto di un tema vincente del cinema americano: il superarsi delle avversità con tenacia e speranza, in una risalita ottimistica dal freddo fango del carcere al calore di una vita nuova e libera. Se Andy è un eroe insolito, sorprendentemente solido nonostante il contrasto tra l'apparenza mite e la sua determinazione ferrea, Red è protagonista di una crescita che lo porta da una serena rassegnazione alla vita nella prigione ad una trepidante apertura alla libertà e all'ignoto. Si crea un'empatia strana verso questi detenuti che si dichiarano, anche scherzando, "tutti innocenti" più e più volte (rendendo così inafferrabile il confine tra bene e male con una semplice formula ripetuta), e minuto dopo minuto il carcere sembra più famigliare e rassicurante anche allo spettatore, come se sbarre e mura fossero sparite. Le ali della libertà non inventa nulla, ed è questo a renderlo straordinario: linguaggi conosciuti (la tall-tale), situazioni già esplorate (il carcere), soluzioni di regia collaudate, temi di fondo (speranza e vitalità), sono tutti elementi visti e rivisti che Frank Darabont combina in una delle vesti migliori possibili, modellando una gemma senza tempo. POW 2024 (wk 9) - The other day was the 10-year anniversary of Harold Ramis’ passing, which is a long time, but I was also surprised by how recent it still feels. Seems like he’s been gone longer. Not that I ever met him or even really knew him, but with “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire” hitting next month, I’ve had Ghostbusters on the brain. And I’ve realized that I’m still not over Egon Spengler’s death! Harold Ramis passed years before Egon did, and if his death hit me harder than I expected, Egon’s was even worse! Because I feel like I DID know Egon; like the rest of the Ghostbusters, I grew up with him. He was never my favourite growing up, but knowing that he’s no longer with us definitely leaves a giant hole in the Ghostbusters universe. Thankfully, “Ghostbusters: Afterlife” managed to do the impossible and give him a worthy sendoff. The bust seen in “Answer the Call” was all well and good, but spirit Egon (aka the “Dirt Farmer”) seriously got me in the feels! And he didn’t even need to speak a word! The ghost form they designed for Egon was pretty much perfect. There was no “uncanny valley” or anything to take away from it; it looked like Egon! And not just Harold Ramis; Egon’s spirit looked like an older version of the character. It was its own thing, and I think that’s cool. I haven’t seen “Afterlife” since it first came out, though I plan on rewatching all the movies before the new one. So I was surprised when I was looking up a pic of Egon’s spirit for this post that those images still really affect me! Both in terms of sadness that Egon has left us, and how good he looked in the movie. He had a few stand-ins onset, and one of them was actor Bob Gunton (from “The Shawshank Redemption”). It’s crazy that they got a named actor to play Egon’s stand-in. It looks like he handled the more emotional aspects of the role. I’m not expecting it, but I’d want to see him in another role in a Ghostbusters movie, where you can actually see his own face. I feel like he’s earned it. This Pop is a convention exclusive shared with GameStop, and the one I got was the only one I’ve seen in person. He was a must-have; I’m glad I found him!
