Can't believe it's almost been a year since my book launch for 'Mummy, I Can't Find My Loud Voice.' It's been such an incredible journey since, especially receiving messages from parents and how their little ones have found comfort in the story 🥺❤. Amazing by Steve Antony This book was a great library find. A young boy tells us about his unusual pet dragon, Zibbo! They are truly the best of friends who do everything together and teach each other new skills. The boy is a wheelchair user but this is not the main focus of the book. It was great to see the little boy taking part in so many different activities with Zippo. I thought this would be a positive reflection for those with a physical disability. I loved the page where the boy is the leader when racing with his group of friends. The duo dance, sing, draw, snooze and snack together but their favourite past time is going to parties where Zibbo is yet to control himself when blowing out the candles! The message of the story is a lovely one of friendship and celebrating uniqueness. Everything feels possible when you have the support of a loyal friend by your side. The little boy loves Zibbo just the way he is and the dragon feels the same way about his Amazing owner. All the work of the past year is coming together now and it is coming together fast. I just sold a second copy of Broken Crayons Still Color, that I listed on my website today. May 8th will be our soft launch for Merin And Her Very Bright Star. This is the day I will list Merin in my shop for preorder (meaning you can purchase with anticipation of getting the book late June/early July). More info to come about the zoom launch as we get closer!! I also just heard from the designer and he anticipates handing over the pdf file for Merin early next week, anticipating some tweaks and revisions after I view it, which will have us sending it to the printer for the proof copy around the first of April and receiving it back mid April- crossing fingers the proof looks great and I’ll order the huge shipment of books mid April leaving us with 10-11 weeks for production & shipping (it is typically 9 but give or take). So this is right on track. My brain is tired. And my heart is happy. I may sleep well tonight, just like Merin here. It’s so, so, so good 👏🏼👏🏼 “Rabbit and the Motorbike” written by Kate Hoefler with (gorgeous) art by Sarah Jacoby is my #bookoftheweek 💯 Rabbit has never been brave enough to venture away from his little house. He lives vicariously through his friend, Dog, who loves to share stories of the adventures he has had on his beloved motorbike. Dog is old and sick and when he passes away, he leaves his motorbike to Rabbit, who must make some hard decisions about the kind of life he wants to lead now that Dog is gone. Will he be brave to keep Dog’s memory alive and write his own story? A beautiful story of friendship, grief, and finding the courage to leave your comfort zone and pursue your dreams 🙌🏼 This story combined with the breathtaking art gave me goosebumps. The loss of a friend or family member is an experience we can all relate to 💔 Hoefler’s tale is a beautiful reminder that we can keep our loved ones alive in our hearts by the way we carry on with our lives. I also loved the message that it’s important to venture out of our comfort zones - to see the world 🌎 have adventures 🏍 write your own story ✍️ Sometimes we all need that little push to be brave! Well, I’ll say it again because it needs to be said like a million times. I am beyond excited tonight. Illustrations are done!!! 👏🏼🎉🌟😭💚 The illustrator is sending over the high resolution paintings to the designer. We have narrowed down some dates for the soft launch. I’m just feeling all of the emotions of this year long journey with my book. This is the drawing of Venus that my son did which was the illustrator’s idea. He then used his talent to add it onto his sketch of a torn out page in Merin’s sketchbook and then painted it. We've finally launched our own website!! 2020 has been quite the year and in addition to the pandemic and lockdowns x 2 we've had a few things going on with us personally as well. One mama had her second bub. One mama went back to work full time. One mama lost her job, found another job, and went back to uni. In the midst of this all, we've squeezed in the creation of our website.
