I thought that all the negativity would magically disappear... I was so damn wrong, aye... The past year has been one of the most challenging years of my life post therapy... Starting a business, finding my true self, and managing my thoughts and emotions solo without the support of mental health services anymore.... There's been many people who have tried to rain on my parade... I've had opportunities stripped away from me... I've been treated poorly by some... My business almost crashed... I mean, when it rains, it pours, right? Well, it only pours if you decide to keep that mindset.... I have embraced the challenges and KEPT F****N' GOING!!!!! WHY? Because I'm delusionally optimistic! I believe in myself because all I've really had is myself! I am the backup, bitches! I've done the inner work and I continue to do the inner work! Don't get me wrong, I've had my moments where I cried myself to sleep many times... BUT... I knew if I stayed committed to navigating difficult situations the RIGHT way instead of letting my emotions control me... That I'm capable of winning, and I WILL WIN! I canāt imagine how many people were worried sick about it. But I sit here grateful today. Grateful for the nurses here who care so much about us. Grateful for the shot that keeps the cancer away. I had to fill out a #transitionofcare form today because the bean counters at @unitedhealthcare and @unchealth have not yet come to an agreement and I might be forced to get cancer treatment from a different facility! Twenty one days goes by fast during the holidays! Second to last treatment of the year. Grateful that treatments are still working. Grateful there are more options in the backlogā¦ yesterday was a big day for me. I got a haircut. Like I didnāt freak out and say no donāt cut it. Iāve been growing my hair for 5 years and to all of you it looks like itās grown back but when I look in the mirror itās still hard to see. I almost look like my old self. Almost. So we cut and shaped it a bit. Add a fresh coat of pink which makes me feel like the new meā¦ itās a constant reminder that Iām NOT my old self. I never will be. And thatās ok. This me is doing just fine. Itās common to mourn the old life you had before cancer, but like losing a pet, itās easier to deal with the loss when thereās something new to distract you from the loss. I could focus on the loss of brown haired Kathryn, and how easy her life was. Not sure why thereās fake fruit at the cancer center. Today it hit me. The fruit is fake but the nutter butters, soda and Gatorade thatās available as snacks are real. Is it just me? Or should cancer treatment centers offer healthy snacks? For over five years Iāve brought my own snacks because literally nothing they offer is something Iād consume. You know, cause, Iām trying to avoid more cancer? Sooooo weird, right? Ugh. So if youāre offering shitty unhealthy snacks why pretend that fruit is available with fakes as props? New UNC Cancer Center, who dis? š¬New āļøhorn to celebrate my inaugural treatment at the new @rexhealthcare cancer center that, letās face it, I didnāt think Iād live to see. Itās freaking gorgeous and really makes treatment day (almost) feel more like a spa day (yes, @unchealth you can quote me on that). Oh and the upgraded IV poles? Feeling grateful today. Last treatment in this @rexhealthcare building. TBH I didnāt think Iād live long enough to see the new cancer center, but I was scared and dumb back thenā¦ now? Iām not scared of anything anymore. Iām sitting in the same seat I did on my first chemo treatment. Same horn. Iām grateful to the nurses who have made this room a happy place and grateful to the friends Iāve met who have made this a home.
