#bookreview «One Day», One Day já era meu conhecido há muitos anos, isto por ter visto o filme de 2011, sem saber que era adaptado de um livro. na altura dilacerou-me por completo, sofri e agonizei com os vinte anos que Emma & Dexter passam numa amizade conturbada, de afetos, mas também de muita dor. o Dexter é uma personagem que irrita qualquer pessoa, que dá vontade de chamar à realidade muitas mas muitas vezes, certas situações em que ele se coloca e decisões que toma é de uma pessoa ficar a falar sozinha… e a Emma, que procura a sua identidade, que gostou de Dexter desde o primeiro momento.. mas que por vários momentos de incompatibilidade, de nunca ser o momento certo, gera esta má comunicação e este mau timing que acompanha praticamente todo a história. provavelmente é um plot bastante conhecido, mais ainda pela recente série da Netflix (que não vi), mas não vou entrar em mais pormenores, porque há sempre quem não tenha lido ou visto, e para quem não sabe nada.. bem que somos apanhados desprevenidos. como o filme foi o meu primeiro contacto inesquecível e tão marcante, não senti o mesmo com o livro. ainda assim gostei e emocionei-me. teve algumas partes mais aborrecidas, para mim.. mas estarei sempre condicionada por já conhecer. foi agridoce voltar a reencontrar Emma & Dexter, quero rever o filme, mas ainda não tive coragem. 🧡 esta edição antiga encontrei-a na livraria @heroiscomcapa e não pude resistir, veio comigo.

“Come on, everyone’s lost at 25.” Isn’t it funny how sometimes pieces of literature or media come back into your life again after a certain period has passed? This is what’s happening right now with One Day. I watched this film when I was a teenager. I decided to read the book afterwards. Now I am 25 and got my heart broken all over again by the story of Emma and Dexter. First by binge-watching the whole show when it came out. Now by reading the book. Back when I first watched the film and afterwards read the book, I was more touched by the love story. Watching the series and reading the book now, it was the feeling of being lost in your twenties that gripped me and that I related to. I feel like I’m both Emma and Dexter at the same time, navigating life through my 20s, having to make big decisions and not knowing what I actually want to do with my life. So isn’t it funny when those pieces of media come back into your life? At the right time? Because I am 25 now. I am feeling very lost at the moment just like Emma did. Just feels like fate having this story back in my life again at especially this period of my life. And this just proves my point that a book (and also a film or series or even song) can have multiple meanings for you, depending on different times in your life and your different interpretations of them. One day my fav show i have watched recently. It is such an incredible show. I never saw the movie or read the book. The story is so sad but beautiful, i think the trope right person wrong time is what this show is and its heartbreaking. Chemistry is important to me in shows and @leowoodall and @ambikamod had amazing chemistry. The way Dexter looked at Emma i want a guy to look at me like that. Acting was phenomal from both but i have to say @leowoodall was the standout for me. The way he portrayed the emotional scenes broke my heart. Especially the scene leaving the voicemail for Emma, when he talking about not seeing his daughter and the final episode. I love that is 14 episodes and we follow their lives after college which is interesting to me. It was also fun it is set in the late 80s, 90s and early 2000s. The ending is deveasting and i wish it ended differently but it left an impact and the acting was amazing. Overall i loved it so much. It has a special place in my heart now. What a blast from the past. I first read "One Day" in 2009. 2009! I can't help but wonder what 2009 me would make of 2024 me... I loved the premise of the book. The reader joins Dexter and Emma every year on July 15th, from their 20s through to their 40s, getting a snapshot of their life. I remember 2009 me being so naive as to how life could be while reading this book and now? Well now I'm not so shocked. My thoughts: 💭 I love how the resurgence of "One Day" invokes so many memories of where I was in life and who I was 15 years ago. 💭 I think it is wonderful how different formats can breathe new life into literature. 💭 I love how a book can bring you right back to the life stage you were in when you read the book. I have finally finished watching One Day. I have read the book many times and didn’t really want to watch the ending 😢🥺😩. Normally, if I love a book I am a bit disappointed with a tv or film version but I loved this so much. I think the book and the show are very thought provoking and I still keep thinking about it. 🏰REVIEW🏰 𝐓𝐢𝐭𝐥𝐞: One Day 𝐀𝐮𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐫: David Nicholls 𝐆𝐞𝐧𝐫𝐞: Contemporary Fiction 💭𝐑𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐞𝐰💭 Following the hype of the new netflix adaptation I knew I just had to read this first! This is immediately being added to my collection of favourite books! It's Emma and Dexter's love story told on the same day: starting 15th July 1988 and ending on the 15th July 2007. I really enjoyed this concept and haven't read a story based upon one particular day throughout the years, and the author definitely captured the eras within the chapters. It's an absolutely fantastic read and one that makes you feel every emotion from happiness, anger, and sadness. All the characters intrigued me, and I really enjoyed watching Emma and Dexters love story unfold throughout the 20 years! I did stupidly read a review that contained the main spoiler, which infuriated me, but it didn't take away anything for the brilliant work by the author. I do look forward to reading more by him! 💛 Q: Najpierw film czy książka? Akurat u mnie, nie ma to najmniejszego znaczenia. Mogę zacząć od ekranizacji, a potem przeczytać książkę lub zrobić to wszystko odwrotnie. W każdym razie, na pewno nie wpłynie to na moje postrzeganie jednego czy drugiego. Nie wiem jak Wy, ale ja bardzo lubię sobie porównywać i oceniać co jest według mnie lepsze. 💛 Tym razem zaczęłam od książki i muszę się przyznać, że serialu nie miałam jeszcze okazji zobaczyć, ale obiecuję, że postaram się to nadrobić. "Jeden dzień" to tytuł o którym słyszałam bardzo wiele skrajnych opinii i przez to tak na prawdę nie wiedziałam czego mogę się po nim spodziewać. Starałam się w żaden sposób nie nastawiać i myślę, że chyba w miarę mi się to udało. 💛 Wszystko zaczyna się od przypadkowej nocy, którą Emma i Dex postanawiają spędzić wspólnie. Oboje mają całkiem inne priorytety i oczekiwania względem przyszłości. Kompletnie do siebie nie pasują- ona zakompleksiona idealistka w okularach, a on- rozchwytywany przystojniak, który wszystko ma jak na tacy. Coś ich jednak do siebie przyciąga i sprawia, że ta jedna noc po rozdaniu dyplomów zapada w pamięci jednego, jak i drugiego. Następnego dnia prawdopodobnie się rozstaną i już nigdy więcej nie zobaczą. Jak będzie wyglądał następny dzień? Rok? A może kolejne dziesięć lat? Czy los jeszcze postanowi ich na nowo połączyć? 💛 Muszę Wam przyznać, że już dawno nie czytałam książki takiej jak ta. Mam na myśli konkretnie to, że w tych nieco ponad czterystu stronach jest zawarte całe życie bohaterów, od tej jednej pamiętnej nocy. Widzimy ich po roku, po dwóch latach i o wiele dalej. Piękne jest to, że nie ważne gdzie są, z kim i co robią, to zawsze myślami wracają do siebie. So, I watched #oneday on Netflix, without reading the book or without even having any clue about the plot at all, and I just have one question, WHY? 😭 It is so good! And so heartbreakingly beautiful. I finally have a new series that I want all my friends to watch (and I will be annoying about it🥰). I am in love with @ambikamod and @leowoodall 's performances and, I won't forget about this series very soon...or ever.
