The Waves is a feminist poetry anthology, collected, curated, illustrated, photographed, edited, designed, and built by me. Every aspect of this book has my hands and heart in it except the poems themselves. written by many women who came before me to make an impact through their writing. I created this book and detailed it so that every aspect was a nod to feminist history and culture from the photography, to the way the spine was sewn and bound is in reference to the craftsmanship that has pushed women forward in history. I’m so proud to have this book made and something I can physically hold it’s an artwork I’m incredibly proud of. #thewaves #feministpoetry #feminist #feminisim #poetry #feministpoems #art #books #bookbinding #editorialdesign #graphicdesign

International Women's Day. Oof. There's been a lot of discouraging news coming at us lately regarding the legal rights and social status of women across the planet. A UN study from last year found that, as @guardian reported, "Bias against women is as entrenched as it was a decade ago and gender equality progress has gone into reverse." I move all the time back and forth between grief for women's recent shocking losses and a fervent energy towards our future. I am mourning the rampant and increasingly bold misogyny of many large American religious institutions, the devastating return of gender apartheid to Afghanistan, the alarming and global radicalization of boys into online “manosphere” spaces, and so many other social catastrophes that promise ongoing struggles and suffering for women and girls. And somehow in the middle of all this, I am learning and writing and creating from a place of deep joy, believing that our stories matter and that telling them with all the truth we can muster is our only hope for humanizing the world. For me this Katha Pollitt poem straddles the tension between those two states of mind: a mourning for the ways women have been boxed in, a joyful confidence that our possibilities are still endless. May it be a solace or a song for you too. WOMEN'S POETRY WORKSHOP Over the past two years, I've spent a huge amount of time digging into the intersection of women's history and poetry, and I'm excited to have the chance to share some of that research with an intimate group of women writers in my first-ever Women's Poetry Workshop—a six-week online course coming up in May. Swipe to see the flier, and check out the link on the link list in my profile to learn more or register for your spot today. #KathaPollitt #WomensPoetry #FeministPoetry #WomensPoetryWorkshop #FeministPoetryWorkshop #MetaphorsOfWomen #InternationalWomensDay #Poetry #FeministPoems

Happy International Women's Day, to ALL women! 💕 Thank you to my gorgeous friend Lauren over at @laurenm.hancock for slipping me this beautiful prompt: "You Brew Like The Perfect Storm'' mid chat, it was the much needed gateway I needed to explore a femme empowering piece that I've been waiting to write! ✍️I've always appreciated and enjoyed the format of a prose poem but hadn't written one in some time, the re-ignition and inspiration for me wanting to dabble in writing them again came from listening/hearing/seeing the amazing Madison Godfrey, Poet extraordinare, at Writer's Week! ✍️☺️ In this piece, I'm aiming to champion all women, yes, allll women, because wouldn't it be better if we lifted one another's voices up, rather than be snarky to one another, to celebrate one another?! Also, by no means am I generalising by way of portraying men who catcall, I'm aware not everyone does it but honestly I've always hated it and that it feels like nothing short of a perversion, honestly fellas, just - no.... I also hope that any woman should never be made to feel less than the beautiful, powerful soul that they are! 🩷 To only be kind to ourselves, but to one another as well, why, that's never struck me as being hard? Whilst I can happily acknowledge that the world is getting better towards treatment of women in some facets, there's definitely more that needs to be done, this I know too! So today, on #InternationalWomensDay - and every day herein, let's anchor one another in support, heads high and faces proud! ☺️🩷 #InternationalWomensDay2024 #InternationalWomensDay❤️ #Feminist #FeministPoetry #WomensAdvocate #WordsForWomen #FeministPoems #FeministPoet #UntwineMeAustralia #ShadowedRose_Prompts #PoetryDaily #Poetrystagram #PoetryIsNotDead #PoetryIsAlive #PoeticProse #ProsePoetry #Poet #PoetAndWriter #PoetryCommunity #PoetryIsNotALuxury #PoeticSoul #WritingCommunity #CreativeWriting #BleedingInk #PoetryPrompts #WritingPrompts

One of the Many Reasons I Married You Ona Gritz Remember the boat my son built in his mind when he was eight— sturdy and sea-worthy, though not with more than two people in it? Every few days, he’d climb in, have us join him, and ask me to choose. What he didn’t yet know is that I’m the daughter of a woman who gave up her children for a man with no place in the skiff of his heart for kids who weren’t his. I will never be her, I told myself over and over. So whenever he asked, it was you I threw into the churning waters he imagined. And you, who as a boy his age nearly lost your life in a camp-side lake, drowned as often as you had to for him to feel safe. When I want to experience a slow life, I switch to poetry.  And this time I was hooked on this poetry anthology 'how to share the world'.  There were so many poems that touched my heart. Some of which I have shared with you as pictures and some are worth reading with the book and a cup of coffee.  The poems are spread across under 5 themes (as shown in picture 2), and you can choose to start from any theme.  Here's what I really appreciated about the poets'.... Every theme has a note from the poet as a foreword. It gives the readers an understanding of what the poets wanted to convey via their beautiful work. Having this helped me get a better context to the poems.  I thoroughly enjoyed reading these poems as they left me something to always ponder upon. Though I have shared a few pictures I would want to make a special mention of the poems like Plastic Gender(s), The snake plant speaks at last, Cheering through patriarchy, Denluce, Haldi, From Dr E.K. Janaki Ammal and many more. They left me with so many emotions to experience and journal in my diary.  Another noteworthy thing in this anthology is the activity page. These are not some random activities, they are a page for you to reflect on the poem that has this activity. I have shared one of those activities pages in the last image.  Overall, it was a pleasure to read the poems over my cup of tea and some wonderful lo-fi music on Spotify.  . . #poetry #anthology #bookreview #bookrecommendations #indianbookstagrammer #bookstagramindia #love #joy #healingpoems #feministpoems #friendship #Queerjustice #queerpoems #community #books #bookblogger #emotionalpoems

Woman and Fire is a poem written by Poonam Tushamad which was translated by Nikhil Pandit from Hindi. The poem is divided into four sections, each section talking about how the rift between the two genders i.e men and women are evitable throughout. 1. In the first section, the poet tries to use fire as a metaphor to power and strength and immense energy that is nurtured within a human. This fire, as the poet addresses, has been present since civilizations within women as they have always been looked upon as a personified form of strength and worshipped as Goddesses. However in the process of evolution, in the process of growing, there has been a formation of a divide, the formation of the terms "men" and "women". This eventually has led to the division of the fire whose majority somehow now manifested in men more than women. The men often released this fire to override situations showing strength but women? They nurtured the fire and safeguarded it for generations. 2. Women have understood the deception of men in taking excess power. She has seen this through all, from her moments of birthing the child to nurturing her progeny. The men have taken a massive amount of the fire and have misused it very often bringing about atrocities and catastrophies. Women have learnt, in the process of experimentation, the art of preservation of the fire and thus the nature. 3. The poet again brings about how men have not been able to shield the fire leading to anger, jealousy and spite. Women on the other hand have been able to control it, consuming the fire in her belly. Women have been able to divide the fire to burn inside and out helping her to correctly let it out when needed. 4. Women have tucked the fire away in her heart to let it illumine her house. She has used the fire to keep the fire in their home burning so that she can feed her household and contain their hunger. . . . . . . #poetsofinstagram #poetry #writersofinstagram #feministpoems #feminism

Happy publication day to Amelia Walker’s fifth poetry collection, Alogopoiesis. Alogia is a condition of reduced or absent speech. Poiesis is making. Alogopoiesis therefore forges a poetics of the unstated, a making of meanings from what’s not there. Poems in this book explore experiences of domestic violence, queer heartbreak, and mental illness, among other topics that are often hushed up or hard to voice. Surreal symbolism interweaves with bare personal accounts, prose poetry with flash fiction and lyric verse. Sequences of erasure, fragmentation and revision mobilise gaps and omissions as sites of significance. The result is a speaking of silence, and thereby, a sensitive raising of issues for which greater attention is deserved. Cover art by Phil Day. MASCARA This poem by Meena Kandaswamy talks through the perspective of a Devdasi, as they were known in the earlier days. The poet tries to bring out the hesitation of the call girl in applying the mascara which feels like a weight to her, a feeling of death and violation to herself. The beauty and allurance in her eyes for her symbolizes nothing but sinfulness. The mascara is like her buried dreams and hopes, alluding to her lost innocence. As she cries the mascara rolls down her eyes in the form of black tears just like her fate. The poem takes the readers back to the days when the ritual of devdasi was practised. The temple prostitution has been going on for ages like a historical lineage within families where the women of the family had to take solace. The consolations have gone in vain and their bodies have been violated constantly. The woman's connection to her devadasi skin is mentioned, and it's noted that assumed superficialities cannot be shed, and deliverance remains elusive. It also suggests how the unknown legacies of love made to God's have not been their karma. Even after all the sufferings, she prays endlessly although it is never heard. It seems as though the God's too have given up and are unaware of her dreams and desires. Cosmetics were once deemed as a symbol of Power and she hopes for its resurrection in a world where it is taken to be nothing but a symbol of hopelessness and seduction. As she adorns the mascara she feels a connection with the heavens and calls on to Kali who is believed to be wearing makeup as a symbol of solidarity and strength. . . . . . . . #poem #poetry #poetsofinstagram #writersofinstagram #poems #feministpoems

on sunday august 20, after the spain women’s national team won their first world cup, when player Jenni Hermoso went to accept her winner’s medal from the then-president of the royal spanish football federation, she received more than that. Luis Rubiales forced a kiss on her lips and proceeded to ignite a worldwide conversation and fight against his actions and those of men for eternity who have felt they have a claim on women’s bodies. and this poem is my way of showing that we, as women, stand together to condemn those actions. #ContigoJenni #SeAcabó thanks to Topical Poetry for giving this one a home 🫶🏻 • • • • • • • • • • • #topicalpoetry #feministpoetry #feministpoems #feministpoet #feministwriters #feministwriting #womenwhowrite #womenwhowritepoetry #womenwriters #femalepoets #worldcup2023
