What is my super power? I don't know how or why, but I win competitions regularly. I never used to enter competitions and then started when I saw my sister winning lots of competitions. No idea it it's related but my mother regularly finds money out on the street. I'm talking paper money (£5, £10, £20 notes) in busy urban areas with people around and it's almost as though it appears for her because no one else sees it. She is manifesting money! This week she said she went in a shop and spent £5 and then the same day she found a £5 note on the floor. Is it luck or is it our family super power?! Whatever it is, I can't control it, but I think we can have a different type of "super power" that can be controlled or harnessed. I think, if we tap into it, we all have an elevated, version of ourselves that can operate beyond the realms of what we typically believe is possible within the constraints of our humanness. It's technically not a super power because, under optimal conditions, it's simply functioning at our peak, but because of life's stressors, the doubts of others who have not yet identified their own super power mode or the various distractions that try to derail us from our true purpose, we may not always (or sometimes ever) realise the true potential of our "super power". So, many if us are going through life never seeing the greatness of who we are/ can be. Sometimes I have have visions of the things I want coming to fruition and I know it is possible, I just need to harness my "super power" level of myself to expedite that goal attainment. On a side note, I do actually believe there are people who have what we would define as "real" super powers, like extrasensory perception or the ability to heal others and other things that are believed to be completely outside of what we typically know to be possible. I want one of those super powers!! It’s a poetry book called “How to Fly (In Ten Thousand Easy Lessons)” by Barbara Kingsolver ✨ In her second poetry collection, Barbara Kingsolver offers reflections on the practical, the spiritual, and the wild. She begins with “how to” poems addressing everyday matters such as being hopeful, married, divorced; shearing a sheep; praying to unreliable gods; doing nothing at all; and of course, flying. Next come rafts of poems about making peace (or not) with the complicated bonds of friendship and family, and making peace (or not) with death, in the many ways it finds us. Some poems reflect on the redemptive powers of art and poetry itself; others consider where everything begins. Closing the book are poems that celebrate natural wonders—birdsong and ghost-flowers, ruthless ants, clever shellfish, coral reefs, deadly deserts, and thousand-year-old beech trees—all speaking to the daring project of belonging to an untamed world beyond ourselves. Altogether, these are poems about transcendence: finding breath and lightness in life and the everyday acts of living. It’s all terribly easy and, as the title suggests, not entirely possible. •Pretty Boys are Poisonous by Megan Fox• 4/5 ⭐️ A collection of poems about the pretty boys who are heinously ugly on the inside. This book is about abusive relationships and remembering you have a voice. I enjoyed this book and getting an inside look into Megan Fox’s heart. Her poems remind me that when everything else is stripped away, she is just another girl with a beating heart that has been damaged by poisonous men. The poems are well written for the modern poetry that they are. I think a lot of modern poetry is just random thoughts written down and called poetry, but I did not find much of that in Megan Fox’s book. While there are a few poems that feel more like passing thoughts, most of the poems dig deeper and include symbolism and deeper meaning.
