Precious little experience I had with my 6yo that I never want to forget and that you might enjoy: She got me up in the night to help her go to the bathroom - she somehow fully wakes up for these little trips and is always super sharp. After she finishes up her business she says: we need to go to Washington again soon. And I say: Yes, I would love to. She pauses for a moment and says: I learned about something in my Egyptology class that I don’t like to think about. And I pause for a sec wondering if she’s actually half asleep this time, because how can those two thoughts make any sense together? So I bring it back: well, why Washington? She says: because there are forests there. And I want to lose my mind. So I translate: oh, you want to forget about something scary from your class. Connection! She says: yeah that’s where you can lose your mind. And then - double connection - that John Muir quote comes to mind. I don’t have it fully ready to rattle off in the middle of the night so, as she’s now sitting back in bed, I start reciting as I’m remembering it: and into the forest I go to lose my mind… I stop for a tiny second to think of the rest but very quickly she cuts in with a sweet smile I can only barely see in the dim night lights: and find my soul. And my entire heart melts and I hug her as she lays down to sleep. Precious little interpretation she has about forgetting bad things by going to the forest, and also probably very true for most of us who find peace in the woods. Not totally sure how she has John Muir isms memorized and internalized like this but I think my 6yo, in the middle of the night, just made me understand Muir a little better. My happy place 😍 If you had told teenage me (or even 20's years me!) that I'd be hugging trees, burning sage, meditating and sharing holistic healing therapies I would have laughed and wouldn't have believed you in a million years that I'd ever do anything like that. I didn't find my spiritual side until my 30's and I have never looked back! Now hugging trees is just normal for me. Next time you're on a walk I invite you to hug a tree. Allow your body to be totally held by the tree, close your eyes and breathe. Be still and connect with the energy of nature. The energy is incredible and each tree carries a different energy. Nature is incredibly healing. I like to connect my hands with the tree and look up - I can really feel the power of the tree when I do this and set an intention to connect with that power! Day 20 • In the shed • I absolutely love gardening…my trusty trowel is rarely in the shed! Having planted snowdrops, daffodils and tulip bulbs last month, its work is done…for now! Lots going on with this piece, I like how the trowel is almost hiding amongst the layers of greenery. A little like how I can get lost in the act of gardening. The mind gets carried away into a happy place of creativity in nature, nurturing lovely living plants in a beautiful space. Today has shown me how well the healing techniques I use and teach others to use actually work and the beauty of divine timing. Yesterday my anxiety was HUGE! Last night I gifted myself time. I journalled, explored my feelings and did some tapping. This brought me some big realisations and showed me the way to my next layer of healing - the abandonment wound!! Fear of rejection and abandonment is a biggie and can affect all areas of life, leading to issues with people pleasing, fawning, staying small, not speaking up, staying in toxic relationships etc.. Today I had a session booked with the fabulous Sam Lyndley - absolutely divine timing! She helped me to go deeper into this wound and bring in some beautiful healing. I've had time in nature - my happy place, with the trees, beautiful sunshine and fresh air. I've also had time with my wonderful friend Jackie, diving into our Healing Circle, making plans and getting sorted. I'm so grateful to her for helping me to step out of my comfort zone and bring something amazing into the world. So I have gone from feeling sick with anxiety to feeling excited, content and balanced in a very short space of time. These tools work and are so very powerful. For awhile I had forgotten how much I needed to be lost in the woods, with the river flowing and the birds singing. Back in the autumn, I came across @happyheadwork and their woodland based programs which helped me reconnect with the natural world. I take my time on my dog walks now. using all my senses, allowing the environment around me to become part of me and me part of it. My mind on these walks is no longer cluttered with meaningless thoughts of what was and what could be, I re learnt to be in the moment and to find joy in that moment.
