Sunday posy from the garden. I bought a large jug from our re-use project this week. It’s a 1938/40 design by Clarice Cliff but it’s badly cracked so I put a pot inside to hold water. The colours on the vase don’t go with the flowers, but I couldn’t resist using it anyway. 🤷🏼♀️ I picked some red tulips because I had no larger flowers, but they didn’t look right. Then I managed to recycle the pink ones from last Sunday, though it doesn’t look much better 🤨 Too large for a mini bouquet, but dear Dominika is very tolerant 🤗 Pic 8 petals on the cooker cover after I’d finished. I love greeting my house guests with some flowers from the garden in their bedroom. 💐 My sister Jenny is staying tonight, so it was the perfect opportunity for this weeks theme of “Spring Zing”. My little bedroom posy uses Aquilegia, Campanula, Euphorbia and the off cuts of the scented Geranium plant that I pruned yesterday. Not sure this arrangement works but I like the colour combination. Forget-me-nots are such a sweet little flower and I like the contrast between the periwinkle blue of their flowers against the deep red heuchera leaves. I added Epimedium for a little more contrast (plus I have a lot of it doing really well in the garden at the moment.) All flowers and leaves are from my garden. Spotted them over the newly blossomed lilac tree. 🌳 This one is Syringa ‘Violetta’ - deeply coloured with an intoxicating scent💜, the pink columbines are beautiful like cute bells and are on their stride 🌸, Aphids have become rampant because of the wet weather but the ladybirds are keeping them in check. Saw these two cuties over the Rosa “cutie pie”. 🐞🌹 It has become my firm favourite potted rose because I truly appreciate plants that are safe for kids to explore, touch and provides an opportunity for sensory play. This one has no thorns , is prolific & the flowers are so pink & pretty, 🥀A wet pink rose - Olivia rose Austin bedecked in raindrops, Tiny pink forget me nots 🌸, Petal confettis of white honesty🎉, Allium breaking into blooms 🧅, Acer ‘garnet’ and ‘atropurpureum’ shimmering with their newly sprouted fresh spring leaves. 🍁 Couldn’t garden much outside today but planted some of the cosmos and dahlias already a few days ago when it was slightly dry. I still have the tomatoes and peppers to be planted. Having had our half dead eucalyptus tree removed today there were a few branches of other plants that became accidental casualties... but now they've become a slightly unusual bouquet in my first cloud vase 😀 I was slightly disappointed with how this looked once glazed, it's just got some unevenness to the glaze, but I think it has potential... the shape is beautiful so I will make more! Garden thoughts… 1. My perennial cutting garden getting ready to churn out the blossoms 2. Can’t live without my hellebores for spring bouquets - this is Helleborus, Ice N’ Roses Red 3. Sedums bulking up in the production field 4. My new favourite spring star: Leucojum ‘Gravetye Giant’ 5. The “kid zone” backing my pretty gardens under the old Gravestein tree - love the juxtaposition 🧸 6. Can’t wait for these Allium schubertii ! 7. A small cherry we planted a couple of years ago. As we remove invasives and reclaim spaces, we’re slowly adding trees and shrubs to the landscape to benefit wildlife and our community 🌳 Onwards now into the week! I can hear the goats hollering at me from the barn 🤣. There’s a spot of unforeseen sunshine today and I’ll be taking advantage of that happy occurrence to get some outdoor work done 🚜. Lots of bed prep to do now so that I’m ready for all the warm-loving plants that want to get into the ground in a couple of weeks (looking at you, zinnias)!

A spring treat entirely from the farm with native plants, perennials from the cutting garden, and flowering bulbs for a special recipient. 🥰 This is my second spring with Leucojum ‘Gravetye Giant’ in my gardens and, while not yet a prolific producer, enough of those long dainty floaty stems have been arriving for them to be placed in extra special bouquet orders. It’s amazing how early the lilacs are this year (I did coax these ones along in my hoophouse; but my others are not far behind!). Tulip season is essentially over already and my earliest alliums are just starting to bloom weeks ahead of normal. 😮 It’s got me scratching my head as to what our May flowers will look like - will the peonies be early too?
