To the surprise of absolutely no one at this point, I’m back to talk about Scotland. 😂 These pictures was taken one year ago today at Loch Lubnaig. This was my favourite day in Scotland; we did the West Highlands, Lochs, and Castles tour with @rabbies_tours and had the most incredible, magical day. I was already loving Scotland, but this day trip made me fall head over heels in love. When we pulled up to Loch Lubnaig, it was like something from my own imagination brought to life - mountains, trees, calm water, fog, and low-lying clouds. It was moody, atmospheric, and absolutely breathtaking. Our guide (who was incredible, btw, and who most of my close friends know by name because I still mention him and all the things I learned from him that day 😆) was worried we might not appreciate the view because a lot of it was obscured by the fog, but I told him views like that were part of why I came to Scotland, and it was exactly what I'd hoped to see. 😍 I have a few mental happy place moments I invoke when I need to find inner peace or centre myself, and this moment, standing at Loch Lubnaig, is one of them. The fact we ended up there unexpectedly a second time a few days later on a different Rabbie’s tour (Loch Ness, Glencoe, and the Highlands) cemented this as a happy place for me. The Thimbles! . A couple of cottages built in the 1700’s in the bustling village of Youlgreave(or Youlgrave) depending how you spell it! . There’s Thimble Cottage(on the left) and Thimble Hall(on the right). Thimble Hall is said to be the world’s smallest ‘detached’ cottage. Originally a one-up and one-down cottage with a ladder for a staircase. No bathroom or kitchen and once housed a family of eight. . In the past it’s been used as a Butcher’s, a Cobbler’s and an Antique shop. It measures just 11’10” x 10’3” and is only 12’2” tall. . POV: You’ve just arrived in Edinburgh, Scotland and within minutes of leaving your rented flat in Canongate, you come across cherry trees in full bloom in front of a beautiful, old church and cemetery…how could you not immediately fall in love with the city? 😍🌸 That was how I felt a year ago yesterday when I arrived in Edinburgh. We stayed in a beautiful flat in Canongate (on the Royal Mile), in a building that was hundreds of years old. My bedroom window looked out on Moray House (part of the University of Edinburgh) and Arthur’s Seat. Just down the hill was Canongate Kirk, with its statue of Scottish poet Robert Fergusson, cherry trees in full bloom, and a beautiful cemetery with a view of Calton Hill. I felt like I’d walked into a dream. Endlich wieder Sonnenschein! Nach gefühlt niemals enden wollenden kalten Tagen, an denen ich unzählige Male frostempfindliche Pflanzen, vorgezogene Dahlien und frisch gekeimte Sämlinge erst rein und dann wieder rausgetragen habe. Wer braucht da noch eine Mitgliedschaft im Fitnessstudio? Gartenarbeit mit Trainingseffekt und klar - ab und zu auch Rückenschmerzen. Aber was tut man nicht alles für seine mühsam ausgesäten Schätze? All die Arbeit von einer einzigen frostigen Nacht zunichte gemacht? Dann doch lieber Muskelkater … Dieses Bild habe ich am 8. April aufgenommen. Inzwischen haben sich fast alle Tulpen verabschiedet, auch wenn das kalte Wetter der letzten Tage ihrem Verblühen noch einmal Aufschub gewährt hat. More tulip love since ‘tis the season. 🌷 We have had some lovely sunshine recently, and all of a sudden all the tulips are blooming. I always wish their season would last a little longer… we spend months watching and waiting as the bulbs grow ever so slowly, but then poof, the sun comes out and all of a sudden the tulips are basking (and frying) in that sunshine, which they have been desperately needing before. 🤭 It’s all worth it though. 🥰🌷

Just a happy little Canadian author, asking you nicely (please, thank you, and I’ll even throw in a ‘sorry’ to complete the Canadian trifecta of politeness 🇨🇦😆) to buy her books so she can a) be a grown-up and pay bills, and b) return to Scotland to write romances about Canadians in Scotland. 😍 A year ago today, I boarded a plane in Toronto and flew to Scotland, a country that completely and totally stole my heart. I was certain I’d love Scotland, but I had no idea I’d fall so deeply in love with the country or feel so at home there. I’ve posted quite a few pictures over the last year - check out my hashtag #MarieLovesScotland to see them - and it has thrilled me to no end to receive comments like ‘you belong in Scotland’, ‘you look so happy’, and ‘you look at home there’. 🥰 Before my trip, I decided the next book in my Perry Siblings series would be set in Scotland. I could picture Hadley in Edinburgh even before I stepped foot in the city. And over the two weeks I was there, her story unfolded to me, from small details to big ones to things that took my breath away and nearly made me cry. I know where Hadley lives, I know where she likes to hang out, I know how the Perry siblings will fit into the story, and I know how her love story unfolds. I also know A Very Perry Adventure will be as much a love letter to Scotland as it is a romance. Despite the pages and pages of notes I have (that I add to regularly), I feel like I need to go back to Scotland and really immerse myself in Hadley’s life before I can do this book justice. Hence the beginning of this post, with this little Canadian author asking you to buy her books. 😉 Sláinte. 🍻 . 📍This was one of my favourite pubs we visited in Edinburgh: Doctors, on Forrest Road.
