Our first Trout Fest event was a huge success. It exceeded our expectations with all the vendors who participated and the 250+ that attended and over 100 kids who got to participate in releasing almost 400 pounds of rainbow trout into the Kern River. What a great turnout we had for last Saturday's work party at Penrose Commons in collaboration with CMTRA! The weather was chilly but we had 37 enthusiastic participants, including 4 folks from the BLM, and we tackled: ✔️200 ft of buck and rail fencing ✔️Repaired several sections of barbed wire fencing damaged by users ✔️Improved a few trail entrances ✔️Installed lots of new signage Some of the signage was paid for with @yamahaoutdoors grant funds, and some of the signage was paid for with #yourOHVdollarsatwork @coparkswildlife grant funds. We’re excited to announce a grant award of over $200 million dollars from the transportation department to build a causeway bridge over Lake Isabella. The causeway will connect Wofford Heights to Mt. Mesa. The bridge will have a walking and biking pathway and turnouts for people to pull over to fish and camp illegally like everyone does in the Kern Canyon. Ground breaking ceremony will be announced soon.
