Jenny Jump Trail Jenny Jump State Forest 9.84 miles 1,576 ft Elevation Gain I technically already did half this trail before maybe like last year, but this time I decided to just hike the whole trail through from the south end going north. My boyfriend was really thoughtful and dropped me off at the south trail head and parked the car at the north trail head and ran 15 miles in and around Jenny Jump while I hiked up northbound. The south end of the trail was kind of simple, a lot of small creek crossings and road crossings. You go past the tiny little section of Mountain Lake at the south end which was pretty cute. The trail turns into a dirt road after a while which is easy to navigate. Hissim Road is pretty much the halfway point and after that it goes up and down a lot. Right before you get to the last road crossing which is Great Meadow Road, you come across a small waterfall. After the road crossing you can see The Land of Make Believe on the bottom of the mountain, and about a mile after that is a summit where you have a awesome view of the Delaware Water Gap in the distance. We’re kicking off the #fall50challenge2023 (and #spookyseason 👻) with a hike 🥾 at #JennyJumpStateForest 🌲🪵 🥾 We followed the Swamp, Summit, and Ghost Lake Trails, found on #alltrails - the trails are moderately challenging with rocky terrain and ups and downs throughout. It’s definitely a great workout! The path was covered with falling leaves, which were mostly wet from the rain we had on Saturday. ↔️ This is an out and back trail. It is well marked and easy to navigate. 🏞️ There are two nice overlooks along the way. You’ll also reach Ghost Lake at the end of the trail. On the return, definitely stay on Summit Trail instead of going back on Swamp Trail. There are two more overlooks and the second one you reach on the way back is the best of the hike - you don’t want to miss it! We encountered a very friendly group of hikers here as well 😊 🚗 We arrived at 8:30 AM and there was only one other car in the small lot. When we left a few hours later, the lot was almost full. We found The Faery Caves on Shades of Death Road. The entire area is rife with ghost stories of bands of bandits, murderers, lynchings, ravenous wildcats, beheadings, fatal car crashes, Wendigo and ancient Native burial grounds. The caves were small and unimpressive from the outside but once you were in, the walls got tight, the light from the flashlight was swallowed and the tunnels seemed to disappear into an abyss. It felt like anything could reach out and take you deep into the rock. The trail was overgrown with gnarled roots that made you trip and stumble. There were fallen saplings and branches with sharp points, almost like the trail itself was going to take your life by tripping and impaling you. Walking out gave me the feeling of being a little kid and running up the basement steps afraid that something was behind you waiting to drag you back down. This is all within Jenny Jump SP which has its own dark history. #faerycaves #weirdnj #jennyjumpstateforest

Today I began another #overlandadventure in my #aevprospector. The #transnewjerseytrail is 450 miles and stretches from #highpointstatepark down to #capemaypointstatepark. Much of my time today was spent on paved scenic back roads and just a few dozen miles of dirt or gravel roads. There was one short section in #stokesstateforest that was a very rocky uphill climb where #4x4low was needed. The #offroadtrails were largely overgrown and washed out in areas. There also was a section of #4x4trail in #jennyjumpstateforest that had what appeared to be a power line down across the trail. I made the decision for back away and locate a go around. Having an #offroadnavigation such as #gaiagps is very helpful. Some of the highlights today on the #transnjtrail were #buttermilkfalls and #trumpnationalgolfclub, #bedministernj. I am no golf fan although the grounds were immaculate. Maybe my buddy @paullamperti can educate me someday since he is an expert in that area.
