Flera av oss var ocksĂ„ inne pĂ„ stĂ€mman för att stĂ€lla bolagsledningen till svars. De lĂ€t oss inte stĂ€lla frĂ„gor under stĂ€mman, och efterĂ„t nĂ€r de öppnade upp för det sĂ„ undvek de att svara pĂ„ mĂ„nga av vĂ„ra frĂ„gor. Det fĂ„tal svar de gav bestod av samma gamla floskler och greenwashing som vi hört frĂ„n detta bolag Ă„r efter Ă„r vid denna tillstĂ€llning. Det demonstrerades samtidigt i Tyskland, NederlĂ€nderna och Storbritannien, tre av de lĂ€nder (utöver Sverige) dĂ€r Vattenfall bedriver klimatdestruktiv förbrĂ€nning av fossila brĂ€nslen och skoglig biomassa. Iâll be fierce for all of us, our planet, and all of our protected land.â Her approach was a shift from the practice the Interior Department had established at the beginning of the twentieth century when it began to prioritize mineral, oil, and gas development, as well as livestock grazing, on U.S. public lands. But the devastating effects of climate change have brought those old priorities into questionâŠ. On Thursday, April 18, the Interior Department finalized a new rule for a balanced management of Americaâs public lands. Put together after a public hearing period that saw more than 200,000 comments from states, individuals, Tribal and local governments, industry groups, and advocacy organizations, the new rule prioritizes the health of the lands and waters the Interior Departmentâs Bureau of Land Management oversees. Did you know that over half of all GHG emissions globally come from just 25 companies? In the Netherlands, 30 companies are responsible for about 40% of CO2 emissions, and their plans are currently not in line with the Paris Agreement. Governments have pledged to reduce GHG emissions significantly, cutting them in half every decade and reaching net zero emissions in 2050 to keep global warming to no more than 1.5°C. But that will only work if all involved parties, including corporations, do their part. While some corporations agree to align in scopes 1 and 2 (direct emissions from sources owned or controlled by the companyâthink company facilities, purchased energy, or company vehicles), many claim not to be responsible for scope 3 (indirect emissions before and after their gatesâthink transport, production of goods, investments, or end-of-life treatment of products), even though they decide what goods and services they buy and where they buy it, and how they promote their goods and services to customers. Defining and tackling scope 3 emissions is necessary for all stakeholders to move the world towards net zero. However, fossil fuel companies like Shell pretend not to know what their customers do with their fuel (put it back into the ground?), and banks like ING claim only to invest in the non-destructive parts of companies, ignoring the fact that this frees up finances for other destructive practices. Instead of investing in a sustainable and equitable transition, these companies give billions of euros to shareholders. This has to stop. Therefore, weâve been training activistic shareholders to confront the CEO and board members of some of the most polluting companies and demand stricter climate policies to align with the Paris Agreementâreduce emissions by at least 48% in absolute terms across the entire value chain (scope 1, 2 and 3) by 2030, when compared to 2019. We have already attended the shareholdersâ meeting of Ahold Delhaize and ING and will attend the one from Unilever next week. Last Monday, we confronted the CEO and board of ING with more than 120 concerned citizens; that was very exciting! Here are some pictures!

BP will face legal action for the first time over the toxic consequences of its gas flaring. Rumaila in Iraq has more gas flaring than any other oilfield in the world, and was described as a âmodern sacrifice zoneâ by the UN special rapporteur on human rights and the environment. For too long companies like BP have been allowed to act without accountability, particularly in the Global South. Cobo has collaborated on environmental justice campaigns with the likes of Jane Fonda and Greta Thunberg, and has come to be thought of as the Thunberg of LA. đąïžFrom childhood, she was part of a multi-year University Park neighborhood campaign People Not Pozos (pozos=oil wells) organized by Latina mothers. They succeeded in shutting down an oil field across the street from Cobo's apartment and blocks from her school. The poisonous air from the oil field was damaging public health, including her own #cancersurvivor đïž đYou know it's important for The L.A. Women's Address Book to detail *how* people accomplished what they did. The turning point in People not Pozos was when the predominantly Latino neighborhood pressured the Catholic Archdiocese of LA, which owned the site of the oil field, to terminate its lease with AllenCo Energy, and the archdiocese refused. @latimes covered the conflict, winning the attention of Sen. Barbara Boxer. Boxer called for an EPA investigation and investigators grew nauseous merely visiting the field, leading to its shutdown in 2013. đȘIn 2015, Cobo founded the South Central Youth Leadership Coalition to change the fact that 580,000 Angelenos--mostly low-income Latinos and racial minorities--LIVE WITHIN 1/4 mi. OF OIL OR GAS WELLS. As of 2022, there were over 1,000 ACTIVE + IDLE WELLS IN THE CITY OF LA. (Over half in Wilmington.) âïžThe Times reported in 2022 that, in direct response to Cobo's activism, the LA City Council "voted unanimously to support a ban on new oil wells and ordered a study intended to help city officials determine how to phase out existing wells in the next two decades." From NYT: Biden Shields Millions of Acres of Alaskan Wilderness From Drilling and Mining, by Lisa Friedman The administration has blocked a proposed industrial road needed to mine copper in the middle of the state, and has banned oil drilling on 13 million acres in the North Slope. The Interior Department said it would deny a permit for an industrial road that the state of Alaska had wanted to build through the Gates of the Arctic National Park and Preserve in order to reach a large copper deposit with an estimated value of $7.5 billion. It also announced it would ban drilling in more than half of the 23-million-acre National Petroleum Reserve-Alaska, an ecologically sensitive expanse north of the Arctic Circle. Together, the two moves amount to one of biggest efforts in history to shield Alaskan land from drilling and mining. Letâs put aside the fact that Norwayâs record on keeping oil in the ground is pretty poor ( #StopRosebank) and celebrate the fact that the number of battery electric vehicles (BEVs) on the countryâs roads is on track to overtake petrol cars by the end of 2024 or early 2025. By 2029 the number of BEVs is likely to exceed petrol and diesel cars combined. The Nordic country of 5.5 million people aims to become the first nation to end the sale of new petrol and diesel cars â by 2025. Nine out of 10 new cars sold at the start of this year have been BEVs. Since 2021, sales of diesel and motor gasoline have fallen by around 8 per cent at Norwegian gas stations, according to monthly data from Statistics Norway and Reuters calculations. Cointinued demand for fossil fuels has been propped up by hybrid cars, but these have been losing market share ito BEVs as the government has withdrawn incentives. A new report by InfluenceMap has found that just 57 fossil fuel and cement producers have been linked to 80% of global fossil CO2 emissions since the Paris Agreement. The report shows that the majority of global CO2 emissions produced since the Paris Agreement can be traced to a small group of high emitters that are failing to slow production. These include nation-state producers (38%), state-owned entities account (37%), and investor-owned companies (25%). The three largest oil firms in the world are owned by the governments of Saudi Arabia (Saudi Aramco) and China (Sinopec and PetroChina). State-owned coal supply since 2015 has actually increased â despite pledges to rapidly phase out the fuel, which has a more severe carbon impact than oil and gas. At COP28 in December, representatives of nearly 200 countries agreed to âtransition awayâ from fossil fuels for the first time. However, such pledges have been made in the past with little definitive action ultimately taken. Tzeporah Berman, chair at the Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty, said: âThese companies have made billions of dollars in profits while denying the problem and delaying and obstructing climate policy. A pipeline operated by Exxon-owned Denbury carrying highly-pressurized carbon dioxide (CO2) experienced a âleakâ on Wednesday, April 3 that caused a release of CO2 that prompted a shelter-in-place order to be issued near the town of Sulphur, Louisiana.â â Local TV station KPLC reported that âCalcasieu emergency preparedness officials said the Denbury pipeline was blocked off around 8:25 p.m. and the shelter-in-place order lifted shortly after.
