Happy 5th anniversary to Avengers: Endgame, Marvel Studios' monumental and exciting installment of the Avengers films and the Marvel Cinematic Universe as a whole that sees the broken superhero team (Robert Downey, Jr, Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, and Don Cheadle), Scott Lang/Ant-Man (Paul Rudd), and surviving Guardians Rocket (Bradley Cooper) and Nebula (Karen Gillan) embarking on a risky mission across time to reverse the billions of deaths caused by Thanos five years earlier before having a showdown with the Mad Titan himself. Just when you thought Infinity War was the most ambitious feat Marvel Studios accomplished, this film takes that further with the fan-service-y excitement, thrills, staggering visuals and solid melding of tones all within a three-hour runtime that never runs out of steam. Kudos to the Russo Brothers for delivering a grand-scale epic that pays off character arcs, revisits past films with amusing results, shakes up status quo, hit the comedic mark right and supplies depth and pathos that are excellent culminations of the emotional investment we have for these characters from day one. Avengers: Endgame continues to be a rewarding MCU entry that does right by it's characters. #avengersendgame #joeandanthonyrusso #dyronrises #superherofilms #basedonthemarvelcomics #marvelcinematicuniverse #theavengers #whateverittakes #iloveyou3000 #thatsamericasass #sohesanidiot #iaminevitable #dontgivemehope #avengersassemble #noobmaster69 #andiamironman #robertdowneyjr #chrisevans #chrishemsworth #markruffalo #scarlettjohansson #jeremyrenner #doncheadle #paulrudd #karengillan #bradleycooper #joshbrolin #2019movies #2010smovies #marvelstudios

And turning 5 is Drunk Parents, the Fred Wolf-directed indie comedy starring Alec Baldwin and Salma Hayek as a rich married couple who endure a disastrous week of financial difficulties (business going under, house on foreclosure, etc.) after sending their daughter away to a Ivy League college they couldn't afford. I think there about five moments where I did laugh (most of them courtesy of Salma Hayek letting loose and going on profane tangents) but the movie was just too sloppy to forgive. I recently found some old photos that I took of the giant Godzilla display at the Cinerama Dome in Hollywood. This was back in 2019 shortly before KOTM was released in theaters. Unfortunately, Arclight Cinemas doesn't exist anymore, but these were high-quality picture and sound theaters. The Hollywood location had the Dome, which was an excellent way to watch movies. The last movie I saw there was Black Panther in 2018. I wish that I could have seen more movies at the Dome before the theater chain closed. Great memories here! This Godzilla display is absolutely fantastic, and I'm glad to have these old photos to share with you all. @godzilla_toho @legendary @godzillamovie ➡️ Follow me @kaijudropkick 📽🎞📽🎞📽🎞📽🎞 #arclightcinemas #arclighthollywood #cineramadome #hollywood #godzilla2019 #godzilla #godzillakingofthemonsters #tohostudios #legendarypictures #legendarygodzilla #monsterverse #continuethemonsterverse #movietheater #theaterexperience #2019movies #movies #kaijumovies #oldphotos #godzillafan #godzillacommunity

Happy 5th anniversary to Guava Island, the musical film centered on a young musician (Donald Glover) who organises a music festival on a lavish iand to try and help the residents break free of their oppressed lives. Closing the night with the happy 5th anniversary of Missing Link, the stop-motion animated comedy-adventure centered on the plot a Sasquatch named Mr. Link (Zack Galifianakis) gains the help of British explorers Sir Lionel Frost (Hugh Jackman) and Adelina Fortnight (Zoe Saldana) to travel to the Himalayas to meet his Yeti cousins. It's an okay movie that doesn't held my interest much but doesn't boast se wonderous set and character designs and good performances by Jackman, Galifianakis, Saldana and many more. Also 5 is Little, the fantasy comedy about a overbearing and mean-spirited businesswoman (Regina Hall) who gets her comeuppance when she is magically transformed into her teenaged self (Marsai Martin) and has no other choice but to depend on her put-upon employee (Issa Rae) to help her during this situation. It's Big in reverse and told in a safer and mismanaged ploy about bullying and being true to yourself, yet at the same time I thought it was a cute movie with moments of humor and a stellar performance by Martin, who already displayed the sass and wit on her time on Black-ish. Turning 5 is 2019's Hellboy, the R-rated cinematic reboot of the adventures of the half-demon Dark Horse Comics superhero (played by David Harbour) who must stop a revived blood queen (Mila Jovovich) from kicking off a world-ending event to which he is the key to. I rewatched it on Tubi last month and fell asleep halfway through then resumed it and once again had that bad taste in my mouth like I did the first time watching this. This is a half-assed and insipid retelling that is crass, gory, and ugly in contrast to the majestically unconventional aesthetic Guillermo Del Toro showcased with his movies. David Harbour was pretty good even as his Hellboy can come across as a overgrown doofus with plenty of forced humor gone into his oversized right hand, which isn't given context and is simply irrelevant, not to mention the dumb-down story (it expects to not be unfamiliar with the original as there's no secret that Hellboy is the one who is destined to bring the end to the world), no consequences for the carnage shown at the finale, no resolution to a pathetic build-up, poorly rendered effects with schlock gone into the presentation and direction (one of the characters has the ability to regurgitate a souls of the deceased as the sight isn't cool and creative as it wants to be) and lack of proper character and story development as this was a lousy attempt at making Hellboy realizing that he's simply used to a weapon towards otherworldly creatures like him along with a lifeless dynamic with Ian McShane's Professor Buttonholm as it is more antagonistic. And speaking of antagonists, Mila Jovovich was paint-by-number as said Blood Queen. Not trying to judge it by how much it differs from what Guillermo Del Toro offered but it is a inferior remix of what we've seen mostly before and a generic story on it's own that tries too hard at being edgy. Happy 5th anniversary to Shazam!, the high-flying superhero comedy-adventure based on the DC Comics hero Captain Marvel (yes, that was the character's original name) and marking the seventh installment of the DC Extended Universe. The film follows 14 year-old foster child Billy Baston (Asher Angel), who is chosen by an ancient wizard (Djimon Hounsou) is become a full-grown and super-powered champion (Zachary Levi) to combat the Seven Deadly Sins aligned with the embittered Dr. Sivana (Mark Strong). It's been five years since seeing this movie when it came out and I loved it. It was probably the most fun I had watching a DCEU as it clearly took a page out of the Marvel handbook and assembled a breezy and comedic superhero film that is equal parts wish-fulfilment fantasy akin to Big and a engaging thematic piece on family that is energetic, heartfelt, surprisingly mean-spirited (like the bullies who accident hit a handicapped kid) and horrific (it is directed by the guy who brought us Lights Out and Annabelle: Creation after all and expertly pulled off this trait with the the Seven attacking the boardroom) and all-around colorful as a noticable and much-needed contrast to the more dour entries while also being aware of it's silliness and not dumbing itself down too much (I'm looking at you, Aquaman). Shazam! was a highlight in 2019 and even as Zachary Levi became a douche in the past year, he helped carried this with his performance as the childish yet altruistic title hero who has yet to have a title. #shazammovie #davidfsandberg #dyronrises #superherofilms #superherocomedy #fantasycomedy #actionadventure #basedonthedccomics #dcextendeduniverse #shazam #billybatsonichooseyouaschampion #SHAZAM!!!! 🎶 #handslightingwithmyhandslightingwithmyhands 🎶 #youarewelcomefornotgettingrobbed #allhandsondeck #zacharylevi #asherangel #markstrong #jackdylanglazer #djimonhounsou #2019movies #2010smovies #newlinecinema #warnerbrospictures

Happy 5th anniversary to 2019's Pet Sematery, the second film adaptation of Stephen King's book following the 1989 original and centers on ER doctor Louis Creed (Jason Clarke) and his family newly arriving in Ludlow, Maine where a hidden graveyard that can resurrect the dead resides. I have yet to see the recent installment, the prequel Bloodlines, on Paramount Plus but I have the say the the most entertaining entry would still be Part Two for all it's grunge-induced craziness. Pet Sematery is one of the few Stephen King works that never really particularly moved me and while it does boasts a foreboding atmosphere, an interest change to the narrative and great performances particularly from John Lithgow as Jud Crandall, the remake is muddled with narrative non-seqiutors like Victor Pascow popping up just to be creepy and Rachel's backstory with her sister and making no effort to redeem Louis. In short, it was an ok film. #petsematary2019 #kevinkölsch #denniswidmyer #dyronrises #supernaturalhorror #basedonthenovel #filmremakes #sometimesdeadisbetter #jasonclarke #amyseimetz #johnlithgow #jetélaurence #2019movies #2010smovies #paramountpictures

JoJo Rabbit - 10/10 JoJo Rabbit is a story about an indoctrinated little boys journey to overcome his manipulated ideologies, reject evil, and embrace love over hatred, showcasing that monsters aren't born, they're created. One of the most brilliant aspects of JoJo Rabbit is its dark comedy, how it doesn't shy away from playing the dark elements lightly to showcase how evil these people were but in the most ridiculous ways possible. The slow transition of this imaginary Adolf Hitlers persona, from quirky and humorous companion to the vial and furious espouser of hatred we know him as, illustrates the inner turmoil and conflicts JoJo experiences as he grows to defy his twisted "conscience". While labeled a "comedy", the dramatic heft of the film is it's strongest attribute. Jojo was simply a boy raised in a worldview of hate, to which he didn't deserve and the rift between he and his mother is raw & palpable, which unfortunately come to an end in THAT scene. The visuals, motifs, lines of dialogue, etc. are expertly reincorporated over the course of the movie, but nothing comes close to that magnificent ending, which is an all timer for me. Equal parts comical, brilliant, and beautiful all at once. THIS is a Taika Waititi movie through and through, the masterpiece he was destined to create, and these are the types of films he needs to continue creating, not garbage like Thor Love and Thunder, rather beautiful stories celebrating the human spirit. JoJo Rabbit isn't a film about "The Holocaust" nor even partaking in the Nazi atrocities, rather a child's self discovery, overcoming indoctrination and blind nationalism, and becoming his fullest self; learning to love those instead of spreading hatred. Ludicrous & absurd yet unflinchingly poignant & honest.

Puntaje: 2/5

Also turning 5 is The Beach Bum, Harmony Korine's stoner comedy centering on weed-smoking poet Moondog (Matthew McConaughey) on his many adventures in and around the Florida Keys as he tries to finish his new novel and fight for the respect of his daughter and his share of his wife's estate after she dies in a car accident. It's Korine at his most mainstream given the cast he's working with, sophistication in the production and moments of hilarity that worked like a scene involving Martin Lawrence as a dolphin-loving ship captain but it is also just as (and probably more than) aimless as it's title character who is well-portrayed by McConaughey as this free spirit and debauched dude you would hang with. It leaves a lot to be desired yet then again this is a Harmony Korine movie where he always closes things on a messy thud. Godzilla: King of Monsters 🎬🍿🔥🦖🐉🏟️⚡️ . Husband’s Review: 5/10 . Godzilla King of Monsters was a complete bore for me. It’s faster paced than the first and at least you can see what’s going on as it’s not as dark. It’s still a bore though. I don’t care about the humans at all and it makes me feel less engaged with the film. I’ve only seen a few Godzilla films, so I wouldn’t say I’m a huge fan. Seeing other monsters doesn’t really get me all that excited. Do diehard Godzilla fans prefer this one over the previous one? I wasn’t crazy about the last one and think the sequel is even worse. . . Wife’s Review: 5.5/10 . Godzilla: King of Monsters delivered on plenty of monster on monster action, but the story fell flat. The movie had a well known cast with great talent and even they couldn’t save the lackluster storyline. If you’re going to have humans be a part of a monster story, I feel like you should make what they bring to the story memorable. When you go in to see a monster movie, you expect to see more monsters during the running time than the humans. However, Godzilla: King of Monsters just focused a bit too much on the humans in my opinion. It was also pretty cliche that the reason Farmiga’s character betrayed everyone and wanted to release all the monsters at once was to bring balance to the Earth. During this great planning, you actually convinced yourself you could control these monsters? It’s poor thinking on her part and she ends up paying for it with her life. The special effects look great, but overall this Godzilla movie is only a bit better in one way compared to the 2014 one: you can actually see the fight sequences. . #moviereview #monsterverse #godzillakingofthemonsters #godzilla #2019movies #milliebobbybrown #verafarmiga #markrussell #kenwatanabe

Happy 5th anniversary to Us, Jordan Peele's chilling sophomore horror feature following his breakout success Get Out, this time telling the story of Adelaide Wilson (Lupita Nyong'o) and her family being terrorized by evil copies of themselves. While it's not as tight in it's narrative flow as Get Out, Peele does deliver a subversive and nightmarish follow-up that speaks volumes of our country's self-destruction and the utter agony and misrepresentation of the aforementioned doppelgangers known as the Tethered, with Lupita Nyong'o showcases terrific acting chops as both unnerved Adelaide and tortured Red which leads to a horrific reveal. It's ambitious, unsettling the more you think about it and entertaining, not to mention giving a grandiose and frightening new spin on Luniz's "I Got 5 on It" of all songs. Also 5 is A Madea Family Funeral, writer, producer, director and star Tyler Perry's eleventh film in his Madea film series that sees the matriarch and her friends Bam and Hattie (Cassi Davis and Patrice Lovey) setting up an unexpected funeral during a family gathering while also concealing that the recently departed was having an affair at the time of his death. This was meant to be the last Madea movie and I was like "Thank God"....until A Madea Homecoming dropped on Netflix. As with many of these movies, has it's moments of hilarity just from whatever flies out of Madea's mouth and surprising edginess (like characters starting to say "n*gga" and an unexpected f bomb from Hattie) but the antics goes on and on until you're worn out from the repeatedly jokes of Joe being a pimp in his heyday and the foolery of everyone as they can't behave nor censor themselves about this devastating family scandal which leads into the typical Tyler Perry melodrama that culminates in a speech, moronic plot contrivances and a ending that ends on a celebrity cameo joke to a solution with no weight or any actual solution. It just ends on a uncharacteristic "work-this-bullshit-amongst-yourselves-as-i-live-my-best-life" note. This movie has what action revenge flicks crave for: swift, brutal and brilliantly choreographed action, a stylish and gritty atmosphere almost akin to a John Wick film, and a badass female lead, with Veronica Ngo giving a strong performance as title heroine Hai Phượng whose past and current struggles catches up to her and showcases endless vengeance while also enduring the punishment and burden as a single mother and chose a dark path in life. Happy 5th anniversary to How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World, the third and final installment of the exciting animated fantasy-adventure franchise that sees Hiccups (Jay Baruchel) settled into his role of the new king of Burk but has to content with a ruthless dragon hunter (F. Murray Abraham) as he seeks out a hidden new dragon utopia. I never thought that I would be immersed in this film series like this. It's colorful, rousing, funny and emotionally impactful at the end and has marked a satisfying end to this bold and high-flying series comprised of quirky characters, creative designs and high stakes. Happy 5th anniversary to Paddleton, the poignant and funny comedy-drama about the unlikely friendship between two misfit neighbors (Ray Romano and Mark Duplass) which takes on a unexpected turn when the younger man is terminally ill. It's full of the usual mublecore-y traits of a Duplass Brothers production but has the honesty and humor to highlight the terrific script elavted by Romano and Duplass' performances. Bir gün oğullarının varlıklı Park ailesinin kızlarına İngilizce dersi vermeye başlamasıyla aile için her şey yavaş yavaş değişmeye başlar. Ama bu değişim sıradan yollarla olmaz. And happy 5th anniversary to Fighting with my Family, the winning biographical sports comedy-drama written and directed by Stephen Merchant about the life of English wrestler Saraya "Paige" Bevis (played by Florence Pugh) who is born into a tight-knit wrestling family and gets the once-in-a-lifetime chance to try out for the WWE as she earns a spot in a training program. This was the first thing I've seen Florence Pugh in and she was absolutely terrific here as Paige who showcases both strength and vulnerability and as she must navigate a cutthroat atmosphere to get ahead as a professional wrestler but contends with the fact that her brother Zac (Jack Lowden) is denied an opportunity to wrestle as well despite the hard work and dedication, and that's drive of this film along with the meaning of family and surrounded by amusing bits of humor. I will admit that this plays around with her history for dramatic effect like Paige being lost for words at the start of her first match when that wasn't the case in real life and the otherwise terrific Vince Vaughn being an odd amalgamation of recruiters, agents, and trainers involved in her life, but the material was solid as were everyone's performances and timing. Happy 5th anniversary to Alita: Battle Angel, director Robert Rodriguez and producer James Cameron's sci-fi action film based on the manga series Gunmm about a cyborg (Rosa Salazar) who awakens in a new body without memory of her past and sets out to uncover her destiny. It's Robert Rodriguez at his least Robert Rodriguez-y as he maintains a focused direction and big set pieces echoing the style of it's producer albeit with a more hollow storyline line. It is carried by Rosa Salazar's string performances and the terrific effects World went into creating her character and the colorful and bleak landscape and arena sequences that is dazzling to watch. And happy 5th anniversary to Happy Death Day 2U, the sequel to the surprising Groundhog Day-esque slasher-comedy that once again follows Tree Gelbman (Jessica Rothe) who is once again repeatedly reliving her birthday and death at the hands of a masked killer and discovers the reasons why is it happening to her as her timeline altered. Yes, this film takes on a sci-fi route to explain the time loops and fans expecting more of the horror elements of the predecessor will be disappointed as that takes a backseat to emphasize the dark comedy even more and often bringing into slapstick territory as a result (such as a montage of Tree un-aliving her). Nevertheless, I thought it was fun and Jessica Rothe continues to shine as unlikely horror heroine Tree as she is but through the ringer even more through while also continuing to make us laugh through her frustrations and darkly comical deaths. Happy 5th anniversary to Isn't it Romantic, the meta romantic comedy from The Final Girls director Todd Strauss-Schulson that stars Rebel Wilson as an architect who grew to hate romantic comedies because of the cliches and perpetuating false expectations (courtesy of her negative mother during childhood) who ends up in a world that plays out like a cliched romantic comedy all down to the lovelorn best friend, the romantic triangle and supportive gay best friend. I haven't seen it in five years and remember thinking it was okay at best and proposed a promising premise only to succumb to the Gary tropes it attempted to subvert. However, I did like Rebel Wikson and thought she was a solid lead. Also 5 is The Prodigy, the supernatural horror film about a child growing more sinister as the result of a demonic forces possessing him. Happy 5th anniversary to The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part, the sequel to the 2014 hit (which celebrated it's 10th anniversary yesterday) that takes place five years after the events of Taco Tuesday and once again follows Emmet Brickowski (Chris Pratt) as he is paired with a lone adventurous named Rex Dangervest (also Pratt) to save Lucy (Banks) and their Masterbuilder friends when their homeworld is invaded by Diplos, and travel into the Systar System to test their skills and creativity as a coming cataclysm known as "Armamageddon" approaches. It expands on the creativity and fun of it's predecessor albeit short of the surprise that movie had and still manages to conjure up more laughs, music and visual splendor on top of a rather dark existential reveal. Turning 5 is What Men Want, the loose remake of the fantasy romantic comedy What Women Want which is now a female perspective of the male point-of-view as ambitious sports agent Ali Davis (Taraji P. Henson) is passed up for a well-deserved promotion and finds a means to succeed and survive in a man's world when she ends up drinking a potion that allows her to her men's inner thoughts. I never thought the original was any good so I had no harsh misgiving either than it's a showcase of Hollywood's unoriginality and Chappelle's Show already beating this movie to the punch with a much nastier skit 16 years prior. The film has some hilarious moments, with Erykah Badu stealing the show as the shamon who gave her said potion and also giving thought to gender roles and feeling but it crumbling to some uneven writing and Taraji's character just being a shitty person regardless of how her job undervalue her and Aldis Hodge's deserved better. Happy 5th anniversary to Piercing, the psychological horror film about a family man who goes to a hotel to call up a prostitute with the intent of killing her only to have the tables turned on him. It's unnerving as hell yet also slick and darkly humorous at times. While there isn't much of a story, it's the performances of Christopher Abbott and Mia Wasikowska and the gleefully demented approach that shaped this into something special. Happy 5th anniversary to Velvet Buzzsaw, Dan Gilroy's satirical horror film set in the L.A. art scene where paintings by an unknown artist are discovered and a supernatural force enacts revenge on the art critics and buyers who have allowed their greed to get in the way of art. I get that this is a critique on..well..critiques and Dan Gilroy tries to make a point of the pretentious atmosphere of modern art scene where collectors and buyers do backflips trying to look into what meaning a piece of art have (or not) but he fumbles the ball and leaves a puzzling and unfulfilled thriller that had the talent but half of the substance. Turning 5 is Miss Bala, the American remake of the 2011 Mexican action-thriller of the same name about a young woman (Gina Rodriguez) being train to take down the cartel in order to save her kidnapped friend. Happy 5th anniversary to The Kid Who Would Be King, Joe Cornish's fantasy action-adventure centering on a young boy named Alex (Louis Serkis) who finds King Arthur's legendary sword Excalibur and must use it to stop an ancient enchantress (Rebecca Ferguson) from enslaving the world with help from his classmates (and former bullies) from school. Cornish reprises the '80s child-adventure throwback template from Attack the Block but with a more family-friendly presentation and a amusing spin on the Arthurian legend that balances humor, characters that entertain and endear and plenty of spectacular set-pieces all together for a fun ride. Andy Serkis' kid was terrific and helped carried the movie along with his costars Alex's friends and bullies-turned-friends with Rebecca Ferguson providing a cold yet menacing performance as the central villain Morgana and Angus Imrie and Patrick Stewart delighting us in their shared role of Merlin. 63/500 Body at Brighton Rock (2019) ⭐️1/2 Body at Brighton Rock suffers from a lack of believability and likable characters. Movies that mainly follow one character in a single location are always challenging for me, but this one especially so. Our lead character makes frustratingly stupid decisions and goes through a character arc that is kind of eye-rolling. To me, not enough care was put into the script from both a dialogue and plot perspective, making it hard to care about any part of this journey. Happy 5th anniversary to Glass, M. Night Shylaman's sequel to both his 2000 superhero drama/thriller Unbreakable and his 2016 psychological horror film Split that brings the durable David Dunn (Bruce Willis), the ever-changing and DID-inflicted Kevin Crumb/The Horde (James McAvoy), and fragile yet scheming mastermind Elijah Price/Mr. Glass (Samuel L. Jackson) under one roof as the men are placed in a psychiatric facility where it's doctor (Sarah Paulson) tries to convince them that their superhuman abilities are all delusions. One hand, it was the long-awaited return to the Unbreakable universe that we've all wanted to see and continues that movie's more semi-grounded deconstruction of how we perceive superheroes and how that weaves into the fantastical and horrific outcome of Split; and on the other hand, it's Shylaman fumbling the ball here and there with a set up that doesn't add up (why do they need to be under psychological observation when we see the incredible feats that could pull off before), waste of characters we spent time with before plus character weaknesses that is played up for ridiculous plot elements, and a outcome that wouldn't feel as satisfactory given real life reactions to what we perceive (the nature of the internet being one). However I wasn't bored and the performances were great, especially James McAvoy as he continues his winning streak as the multiple personalities that inhabit, take over and affect the body of Kevin Crumb and the overall dramatic nature that plays down and subverts the typical superhero tropes we've seen before. Flaws aside, I appreciated the fact that Shylaman was given free reign to make this unique series of superhero films happen. Hayatın karmaşıklığında, her birimiz benzersiz hikayelerle dolu dünyada kendi sistemimizi oluşturuyoruz. Helena Zengel'in performansı, Benni'nin karmaşık dünyasına dokunaklı bir pencere açarken, film aynı zamanda sistem dışında kalan bireylerin yaşadığı zorlukları anlama fırsatı sunuyor. Bu fırsatla birlikte Benni'nin duygusal deneyimlerini paylaşıyor ve izleyiciyi zorlu anlarına ortak ediyor. Ancak 'System Crasher', sistem dışında kalanların hikayesini anlamak ve empati kurmak adına kesinlikle izlenmeli. 📺-> @mubiturkiye #Systemsprenger #Almansineması #2019movies #drama #AlbrechtSchuch #filmreview #filmöneri #modewme
