It’s so hard to believe this masterpiece of a once in a lifetime cinema experience premiered 5 years ago! To me, “Avengers: Endgame” was one of the biggest highlights of 2019, I feel so fortunate to have seen the film 2 times in theaters (as well as “How to train your Dragon: The Hidden World” and “Toy Story 4”), and I should also feel fortunate that in November of that same year the film came out, I have met @lexi_rabe, Morgan Stark at @dallascomicshow! The film definitely had the way of ending an era for us fans, and it is the last MCU film of these things: The last MCU film to have the original six main Avengers on a mission, the last MCU film to feature, Chadwick Boseman as, T'Challa/Black Panther, and the last MCU and Marvel Film overall to feature, Stan “The Man” Lee himself in a cameo before his passing. Seeing the film with my family in theaters was another reason why seeing the film was a real cinematic experience, since doing everything with family is the key to enjoying things in life. Thank you, Russo Bothers for delivering us the once in a lifetime cinematic experience to the big screen. Thank you @jonfavreau for creating the one cinematic universe that can never be overtopped. Kumbalangi Nights is a very strong Malayalam movie that has a flawed ending and a couple of underdeveloped characters, but it deals with the theme of overly expressed masculinity in India and how that affects men very well. The movie is at its best when it’s doing the silent instead of talkative approach. The acting performances are uniformly strong while the excellent score and cinematography made great use of its gorgeous riverside setting. It’s a very moving family drama. "Retrato de una mujer en llamas" es una de las mejores películas que se hayan estrenado en estos últimos años, una historia simple e íntima narrada de forma experta, con una fotografía magnífica, interpretaciones igual de cuidadas y excelentes, y un ritmo narrativo en el que las cosas se cocinan a fuego lento y que logra, a través de un estupendo guión, que cada elemento tenga su recompensa al final del recorrido, desde una interesante interpretación del mito de Orfeo y Eurídice y la ausencia de banda sonora hasta la maravillosa escena del coro y uno de los usos más memorables de las "Cuatro Estaciones" de Vivaldi puestos en la pantalla grande. Hablando de aspectos técnicos, la cinematografía de #clairemathon es la mejor del 2019 junto a la de Roger Deakins en 1917. Podés pausar la película en cualquier puto plano y ya tenés un nuevo cuadro para tu casa. En verdad sentís que estás presenciando una obra de arte en movimiento. #noémiemerlant (Tar) y #adèlehaenel entregan interpretaciones magníficas como Marianne y Héloïse. A través de sus mínimos gestos y las sutilezas del guión, podés sentir como las pequeñas resistencias se van desmenuzando de forma paulatina, como los juegos de ajedrez mental y observaciones frías terminan en silencios donde la tensión se puede cortar con cuchillo. Es imposible imaginar a otras actrices con el mismo nivel de talento y química luego de ver su labor en esta cinta. 2019’s Child’s Play is a solid, underrated reboot. The third act wasn’t particularly good and Chucky was seriously sidelined in this installment. Still, the updated modern take on the formula really worked, the acting performances were strong, and its 80s family movie approach in the first half was quite fun, pleasingly resembling Stranger Things. This might just be the dumbest 'Fast And Furious' film, and that's saying something about this long running series. The action is shot, choreographed and edited well by David Leitch. The story is very shallow and paperthin, especially for an film with an 2hrs 20mins runtime. The on-screen chemistry between Statham and Johnson is still fun to watch. The way they trade insults is hilarious. After fulfilling his dream of building a peaceful dragon utopia, danger soon strikes Hiccup's village which will test his reign as village chief when he comes up against the evil tyrant Grimmel. Such a disappointing way to end this trilogy that really peaked with the original. The story is very weak and has some poor character choices that didn't work for me. F. Murray Abraham's Grimmel is such a cookie cutter villain that you don't care about. The ending is emotional and has a satisfying conclusion. Ya con esa premisa está película me atrapó de entrada y no paró de cautivarme hasta el final, desde el repertorio de personajes vívidos y carismáticos, la exploración del mundo y de los clanes rivales en la isla (me escucharon bien), el desarrollo sumamente creativo no solo del relato sino también de la mitología que rodea a Klaus, y por supuesto la jodida animación. Dirigida y escrita por #sergiopablos (junto con #carlosmartinezlopez ), quien posee una trayectoria única en el cine como supervisor de animación con films como "El Jorobado De Notre Dame", "Hércules", "Tarzán" y "El Planeta Del Tesoro" entre otras, este film nos trae una sublime combinación de la gloria imperecedera de la animación 2D con el uso de distintas capas de iluminación y de color sobre cada fotograma para que la animación tradicional luzca como si fuese hecha en 3D. Esto le otorga a la cinta un estilo y apartado visual únicos y memorables, sin perder de vista el trabajo en la emoción del relato, que me ha hecho sonreir y reir en varios momentos así como también obligarme a contener las lágrimas en algunos otros (algo que no estoy acostumbrado a hacer para que se den una idea); todo esto acompañado por supuesto de la increíble banda sonora de #alfonsogaguilar , una de las mejores que puede haber en una película de Navidad. This Is Not a Burial, It’s a Resurrection is a deeply moving film that gives arthouse cinema a great name. The movie deals with the dangers of capitalism, especially as it relates to excessive building, but it is also about the importance of honoring the dead and keeping the traditions alive, particularly for smaller villages. Beautifully acted and wonderfully directed, this is a highly artistic, but still engaging movie that is emotionally impactful and admirable in its very compassionate dialogue. You Will Die at Twenty features a phenomenal titular premise, but the execution of this tale of the many confines of a small village life left a lot to be desired. The movie looks great and it has its memorable moments – the beginning and ending are both stellar. Recent Walmart $5 bin score: 2019's "Come To Daddy" starring Elijah Wood. I kept thinking if this had come out in the 80s this would definitely be in the "cult" section of your favorite video rental joint. It's listed as a "horror/comedy" but I think it's more black comedy with the occasional bits of blood & shock. Joko Anwar’s Gundala is a solid, but flawed superhero flick. It is great seeing Indonesia get on board the superhero train, but the overall movie needed to have been stronger. The humor that is present is solid, the acting is good and the fight choreography is particularly terrific, resulting in some amazing action scenes. But the script is overstuffed with too many underdeveloped plot points and the characterization left a lot to be desired. I did watch this film at release, but I'd forgotten quite how good it was. I wouldn't say I'm a huge fan of sports films, but sometimes one stands out, and this is definitely one fo the stand outs. I really do enjoy all of the performances in the film, Florence Pugh being the stand out, I think this was the first film I saw her in and this is a performance that impressed me, I think the emotional moments are played out well, and she really sells the fear that huge opportunities can be. I also really like Steven Merchants small role in the film, he always makes me laugh, and obviously his work as director is great as well. An element of my love of the film does come from the location, I'm a Norfolk/Norwich boy, so I do like seeing the recognisable locations showing up within the film. All of the performances all do reflect people I know in real life, A nice element of home, for me at least. I don't think the film has particularly impressive cinematography, I do really like the cuts between normal cameras, and TV style shots as if a match has been recorded and replayed to tell part of the story. Nací en 1976. La pasé bastante bien en el colegio primario. En el secundario ya no tanto. O sea que para 1989, después de clases, me refugiaba en las películas que retiraba del videoclub Avant Premiere de Ramos Mejía (Pueyrredón 100); que manejaba Rafael Lamoglie. Rafa era amigo de mi viejo y me cobraba 1 de cada tres películas que me llevaba. En ese fin de los ochentas y comienzo de los noventas miraba una, dos y a veces hasta tres películas por día. En mi casa no me jodían porque tenía buenas notas. Las generaciones más jóvenes no van a poder entender la cacería y la experimentación de ir a tu videoclub amigo, y eventualmente a Blockbuster, para buscar películas. Veíamos DE TODO y a toda edad. Yo muchas veces fui custodiado por mis viejos, desde chiquito, pero nunca recibí un no para ver una película. De última me hacían dar vuelta en una escena pero siempre me explicaban el contexto. Con mis viejos veía desde Erase una vez en América, pasando por Atracción Fatal y hasta Calígula. Por mi cuenta veía mucha ciencia ficción pero también bastante terror. Y de todo tipo, desde la maravilla que es The Thing hasta la garcha que es Hardware. Veíamos películas de AVH, Gativideo, LK Tel, Transeuropa, lo que sea. Aprendíamos de todo. Por suerte soy parte de la generación que fue testigo de una época dorada del cine de terror y eso es lo que demuestra In Search of Darkness (2019), uno de los mejores documentales de filmes de terror que vi en mi vida.
