A lone house, by the shores of Loch Morar. A mesmerising, homely sight after hours on the hill not seeing another human or dwelling. Is this part of the appeal of the Scottish Highlands? Not just the people and the geography. But also the wide open spaces and the sense you often get, that this is a timeless landscape. A view you see of a distant beach, a craggy hill, an ancient track… all can seem untouched by the chaos and clutter of modern life. Living in the country I don't romanticise rural life, it's tough and great in equal measure and full of as many gadgets and teens on Xboxes and adults scrolling their phones and life’s dramas as anywhere else. But there is something breathable about a house by a loch, surrounded by hills. Err… or maybe I do romanticise it a bit! LOCH AN EILEIN AND LOCH GAMHNA CIRCULAR Rothiemurchus, Aviemore 7.2km (route on All Trails app) This is one of my favourite walks near Aviemore and Loch an Eilein has been a family favourite for many years. Especially for bringing a picnic to or a takeaway pizza to share on a Summers evening. The walk is pretty flat and goes around the beautiful Loch an Eilein and wee Loch Gamhna. I did however somehow manage to loose my other half on this walk and my wee one and they took a huge detour after getting lost. Make sure you all have a map was the lesson of that trip lol! Hence my rather forced selfie smile while midway round walking on my own lol! You can get a buggy around Loch an Eilein but I wouldn't recommend it for the smaller loch as its very narrow. You can walk Loch an Eilein on its own without the smaller loch and the route is still very enjoyable. You can also cycle Loch an Eilein very easily but Loch Gamhna on this route would be tricky in places. You can park at the Loch carpark and you have to pay a small fee for parking to the guy in the hut. So be prepared for that. There are toilets and a small shop in an old wee bothy. Its adorable and a must pitstop for a peek inside. I got some lovely old dishes in here for my Mothers day pressie and the kids got hot chocolate and cake. Yes they have cake and biscuits too! I hope you get a chance to enjoy this beautiful walk and area. Rothiemurchus is a Scottish treasure and we've had many an adventure there. Don't forget to visit the cafe and shop nearby which has some of the best Scottish venison and other foodie products. ☀️ The sun shone down as we completed our first ever mini beach clean at Dalkeith (near Killergruer, Glenbarr) this morning. Cutlery 🍴, socks🧦, and unicorns 🦄 amongst our rubbish collected this morning. It's amazing how quickly our little people cottoned on to what we were doing and were able to help us find stuff that doesn't belong on our shore line. If you have any suggestions for other Kintyre beaches that require our help let us know as we'll certainly be putting in more beach cleans this spring and summer. See you again soon. Loch Callater didn’t get a whole lot of love on my poll… so thought id go there to show anyone who has never been how underrated a walk this is 😍⛰️ The best part IMO is the walk before you even get to the loch… you follow the river and a series of falls the whole way and every part of the walk is stunning 🤩. The weather played ball for a change too today… I may even be a tad burnt 🙈☀️ I’d be lying if I said I had one tired pup… he is still hyper 😂 … 📍 Walk details: a fairly flat 13km walk on a good track road (no nasty bogs to overcome and difficult to get lost).
