Tips for the Mother Runner: 1. Don’t worry about pace. 2. Bring tons of snacks & water. 3. Let the kiddos get their wiggles out before the run. And promise more wiggles afterwards! (I set up a mini running route for Arlo to do — complete with a finish line!) 4. Get excited about every doggo that you see along the way. 5. (Pro tip) teach your kiddos how to cheer you on! Especially on hills! ••• I generally promise the kiddos one stroller run a week (reserved for Wednesday nights with @projectx210) it keeps it exciting and special for them instead of having to do it every day! Sometimes I do more than one a week, Arlo always sees that as an extra treat! ••• Remember to always be proud of getting out there and moving your body…no matter how slow, fast, or interrupted it may be! No rest for the weary. Back from our Spring break trip. Today this Momma has her little one's dance class and Easter Bunny pics. Laundry and clean house. Pack for the next family trip in 3 days. Soccer and Swim tomorrow. Make dinner for Grandma who holds down the fort while we are away. Take the other Grandma to dinner. The Reheated Cup of Coffee ☕️ Mommas, how many times do you reheat your coffee/tea?! That first hot sip of the morning is one I savor, usually before anyone else it up and I can enjoy the fresh from the coffee pot taste ☺️. And then life happens and that cup of coffee gets reheated, most days, several times. Did you know I do this for you? 🤨 Yeah, I’m at the top of the list for why I workout (and share it). I feel better when I move my body. I’m more focused, I get time to myself, I find my enjoyment, I’m in a better mood, and I get a release of stress. And my family falls second in line on the list. They deserve the best of me. They deserve the happy, patient, and present mommy/wife. But momma, you are high on that list too! I show up with my sweaty, heavy breathing self in my oddly quiet and dark house to help you see what is possible. Maybe you can’t do it at 5am. Maybe you don’t like to lift. Maybe you don’t have a dedicated space for it. But... You can find time to do better for yourself. You can find some type of fitness that you enjoy. You can find a space to move. You are worthy of every benefit that exercise brings and I hope you see that when I share mine.

We did it friends! We made it to the LAST Monday of 2020. ✨ This year has been anything but normal. Between missed family get togethers, staying home (more than usual), masks, and everything else, it’s sometimes hard to find the positives. But if you look hard enough, you WILL find them! This year I/we: 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 spent more time together as family. 🍅 built and started a garden. 💻 started my blog. 🐶 adopted another dog. 🪡 turned my love of creating into a business. @utterlyminedesigns 🏃🏼‍♀️ started running again. Everything I listed above are things that I am very passionate about. And things I might not have now if it hadn’t been for “the worst year ever.” Do I wish things would have been different this year? You bet!! Did I still have bad days despite the many positives?? Hell yeah. I had a lot of hard, lonely days. I cried. A lot. But for the first time all year, I feel like we are finally able to see the light at the end of the tunnel. And not just because 2020 is finally coming to a close. As we reflect back on this year, and think about the year ahead, look for the good. Physical therapy... Has been amazing. I've come so far in just a few weeks! Next week I try dry needling for the first time... I'm ready! I've cut my mileage down dramatically. Like, 2-3 miles a week. My mindset has shifted and the decrease feels less like a sacrifice and more like a necessity. “I’m an introvert- I can’t coach!!” Yep, me too, me too! But here I am. I took the leap and I’m still here 6 years later. 😳 My energy for sure comes from being at home (good news- I can coach from there! 🎉)! I enjoy my quiet time- getting up earlier than every one else to fill my cup I get some quiet time!! I don’t necessarily like talking to all people- that’s fantastic because not all people will be right for what you’ve got to offer! Being around people drain me- yup! But being around the right people hype me up and get me going! And I’ve found some of those amazing people through this journey! I’m a better listener than sharer- totally me! I like to take it all in!! And that’s great for this job because I get a better understanding for what my people need!! So then I can share only what will fit them and help them find success! If I’ve taken nothing else from 2020, I’ve learned to care for my body enough: • to take the time for stretches, • to take cold rinses of sore muscles, • to ask questions and find answers, and • to find out that stepping out of my comfort zone can bring amazing changes to life! And these three pictures are proof of that! The first is back in January when I started Barre (talk about a step out side of comfort!) when touching my toes wasn’t feasible. The second was toward the end of Barre (or maybe after I’d finished 🤷🏻‍♀️) and I could touch but it was still a stretch! (Get it 🤭) And the third is now, in the midst of my second round of running 🤨, and I can almost reach my toes with both hands!! This may not seem like much, but for this girl who has ALWAYS struggled with flexibility and was so pumped every time she touched her toes at the beginning of this year that I had to share with @craig.morehead.7, this is absolute bliss and my back, hips, and knees are so much better for it!

I meant to brag on this lady yesterday and the night got away from me. So tonight @kammeygc gets her shout out! She had been in my free group sampling workouts from several different programs when she decided she wanted more. She joined me in July and rocked our four day a week HIIT and weights program and Tuesday she busted out a 33 minute 5K (her fastest ever) to finish off her first round of our weights and running program! I’m so incredibly proud of her for taking on this challenge in the most challenging of times. Even with a little one at home she has made the commitment to take care of herself so she can better care for him! Your health is important and Ginger has shown it’s possible! Congratulations!! I can’t wait to see your time on this next round!

“I just don’t have the time because of the kiddos.” I get it. This little boy wants a lot of mommy’s time (Ivy too but she can be occupied with other things for a time). I know you feel like taking care of yourself is hard to do when everyone else needs something from you. But they also need you to be healthy and happy. Both of which are hard if you don’t take the time and put forth the effort to take care of yourself. Exercise, eating right, rest, and building a positive mindset, are what I typically focus on to feel my best so I can give my best. It’s not always easy but I put a focus on it and hit my mark more often than not. I’d love to help you find the time to take care of yourself so you can give more to those you love! You’ll look at your schedule to see where it can fit, you’ll find a fitness program that will fit into your schedule, an eating plan that you’ll be able to follow for the rest of your life, and a support system like no other of uplifting and supportive women. As I shared last week, a 5K was NEVER in my plans, EVER. I had no desire to or any inkling that I could do one. Running hurt. For YEARS, running hurt. It hurt my knees, my feet, my ankles and it made my lungs burn like the fire 🔥 pits of hell. But then my company came out with a program with a 5K being the final workout. Well shit... I like a good challenge. And I had successfully made it through the other 14 programs I’ve done, so I guess I’ll try this one too. But oh did it hurt! My knees ached SSOOO bad, taking off a tight pair of jeans 👖 pulled on my mcl and made me cringe. About halfway through I hurt SO bad walking was painful even to look at. (Believe me someone mentioned it!) I winced letting go of my foot after stretching my quads because my knee hurt too bad to support my lower leg. And yet I pressed on and dug deeper into the stretches and rollouts in the program. And I found success and my knees started hurting less so I pushed on and was able to finish. But if I had just started running (much like when I just tried random workouts in my living room), I would not have had this success. I have successfully made it through 15 programs (some more than once) because of the systems in place to create success! — The fitness tools of having a trainer in my home, with a calendar to follow EVERY. DANG. DAY. And informative videos for when I have questions. — Nutrition tools so I can find a plan that I will be able to follow for the rest of my life so that I do not feel deprived and that keep me inspired and learning more. — And the community to cheer me on, hold me accountable, and answer my questions when I’ve got. That is what makes these programs great and how I have built up my energy, endurance, and strength so I can keep up with the babies and feel accomplished and have time to myself. I am BLOWN AWAY at the encouragement that I received from everyone on my post from yesterday! Thank you!! ❤️ I finished my 5k today!! I ran the whole way, no stopping. I had 2 goals. 1. Run it all and 2. Try to do it in 30 minutes. While it took me 38 minutes, I’m totally cool with that. I’m 50 and haven’t done any running in over 20 years, so I feel great! Some tips for winter running! ❇First things first, warm up! Not only does it lessen the shock of the cold, but you are less likely to overdress that way! Do squats, lunges. Anything to active your glutes, the powerhouses behind your runs. ❇Dress in layers. The first layer should be moisture wicking to help with sweat. The second layer is for warmth. If its cold enough outside, the wind is blowing, or its snowing, a 3rd layer might be appropriate to block the wind or protect you from getting wet. ❇Check the weather, look at the "feels like" or "real feel" temp, and dress for that! Also, look at the wind speed. Typically a higher wind speed correlates with a lower "feels like" temp but not always, and wind can greatly impact your warmth. ❇Take note! For real though! At first running outside in the winter is a bit of a guessing game. But it won't always have to be, and you can speed this up by tracking the temps, wind speed and what you wore. Track how your temp was. Too cold, too hot, whatever it is! Taking note will help you spot weather / layer trends and help take the guesswork out. ❇Winter runs are NOT for speed! There will be plenty of times when your path is free from snow or ice but layers weigh you down more than you think. Winter runs build endurance! Don't beat yourself up about pace, especially is this is your first year running outside in colder temps. ❇Plan your route. Will it be clear or will you be trucking through ankle+ deep snow? If so will you be able to run on the road? How much traffic will you be sharing the road with if you have to use it? Safety first. Think through what conditions you might encounter on your way and make sure you have a plan if things get messy. ❇Wear shoes that have more tread than road running shoes. I use Nike Run Swift all winter and have had good luck. I have heard yak Trax are amazing but I've never tried them!! Of course this list isn't all inclusive but a great starting point for winter running. This is only my second year running outside so I'm definitely no expert, but these are some of the things that helped me become more comfortable with getting out regardless of the weather. Yesterday I was not kind too myself - I told Craig I was feeling flabby and bloated. I was uncomfortable in my clothes - they were tight and made my skin crawl. I felt sluggish and defeated. I was irritable and just wanted to get something done, and it just wasn’t working. I woke in about the same head space. Until I got about 5 minutes into my workout and then the positivity kicked in. I told my group I don’t know if it’s real or perceived but the boost of strength, confidence, and improved mindset I get from exercise is amazing!! I felt lean and powerful before the workout was even over and it lasted for several hours into my day! Raise your hand 🙋🏻‍♀️ if: you spend more time being mean to yourself than being kind you’re uncomfortable in your clothes feel sluggish and defeated or find yourself being overly agitated And if regular exercise isn’t part of your life, tell me why not.

Happy Fall 🍁 🍂!! It’s my favorite time of year with the yellows and oranges, the pumpkin 🎃 patches, the apple 🍎 orchards, the activities 🏈 🔥👻, and the beautiful drop in temperatures 🌡!! First time having kiwi since like elementary school! So many questions! How do you know if a kiwi is good? How do you know if a kiwi is bad? How many kiwis should you eat at once? BRENE BROWN - BRAVING THE WILDERNESS In my search for true belonging, a true purpose, a true calling, i have stumbled across this little gem of a book. I haven't read much but the little I have is powerful and binge worthy. I've always loved to read, particularly fiction novels. Until this past October I couldn't make it through any kind of self help or personal development book even if my life depended on it. Now I'm hooked on them, which is a great problem to have. Got dressed and headed for a 🏃🏻‍♀️ tonight and as I come into the living room to leave Vincent takes notice⬇️ V: mom!! are you going for a run?!?🤔 Me:I am! V: 😃Can I come with you?!!! ⬅️(Insert melting ❤️ here) Me: sure! Are you gonna ride your bike or run? V: RU... 😐 Um how far are we going? Me: the log says 1️⃣.9️⃣ V: ok I’m gonna run🏃 today! He’s been going with me for most of my runs here lately and I absolutely love it! He rides his bike most of the time but last week he said he wanted to start running with me on the days I run shorter distances. I told him any time. He did really good for not running in a while. Today’s run I knew right out the door was going to be rough. I was tired already, I ate like crap this weekend and have been drinking cokes again 🙊. But I went ahead and ran, pushed myself the best I could on my speed intervals and got it done. Cute little abandoned 🏡 seen on my 🏃🏻‍♀️ this morning. 〰️I didn’t want to get up and do any workouts today but I know that’s when I needed to do it the most. 〰️I am in a much better mood since doing my workout. 〰️I knew it was going to get pretty warm today so I decided for an earlier than normal 🏃🏻‍♀️ and I’m so glad I did. 〰️Now at home sitting on the couch debating what to do today.
