Black Maternal Health Week: Women in America are dying at a higher rate from pregnancy-related causes than women in any other developed nation. Black Women face even more risk and are three times more likely to die from pregnancy-related causes than white women. That is in no small part because of a long history of systemic racism and bias. Studies show that when Black women suffer from severe injuries or pregnancy complications or simply ask for assistance, they are often dismissed or ignored in the health care settings that are supposed to care for them. People of color — including expecting mothers — also bear the brunt of environmental injustices like air and water pollution, which worsen health outcomes. Too often, Black mothers lack access to safe and secure housing, affordable transportation, and affordable, healthy food. Today has been a full in chill day before the kids go back to school on Monday! We had a manic few hours this morning tidying and cleaning ready for an early afternoon full of house viewings. This year I’ve discovered: while I can extend grace to any friend or fellow mom, offering words of encouragement and support, I struggle to do the same for myself. I firmly believe in the incredible strength and resilience of moms, and I want to be there to remind them of their worth on the tough days. Yet, when it comes to my own slip-ups, I find myself trapped in a cycle of self-criticism. If I’m not flawlessly meeting every expectation I’ve set for myself-I am a failure. It’s an all-or-nothing mindset that leaves little room for forgiveness… Tonight, I lost my cool and raised my voice at Briella. The guilt weighs heavy on me, replaying the same thought: “I’m a terrible mom.” But amidst the tears and apologies, I am trying to remember that mistakes are part of the journey. They’re opportunities for growth and learning. Kids will test our patience, but that doesn’t reflect on their character. And our mistakes as parents don’t define us. We’re juggling countless responsibilities and battling our own inner doubts every day. It’s inevitable that we stumble along the way. If a friend confided in me about her struggles, I would offer her compassion and understanding, not judgment. So why do I treat myself differently? It’s time to speak to myself with the same love and kindness I’d show a dear friend. Remember, you are more than the sum of your mistakes. You are a resilient, loving, and imperfectly perfect mom. Let’s give ourselves the grace we deserve. 💕

This afternoon we spent an hour outside in the fresh air collecting leaves, flowers and other bits so the kids could make potions and garden food a they were calling it… It’s ok to just go for a walk and do something for free but everything has to cost the earth to do! Things cost so much money these days. As a family of four a day trip to the theme park or somewhere special ends up costing £100s. Don’t get wrong we do enjoy a trip to the zoo or to a theme park but these are a special treat. We can all cherish our space but we can also completely take advantage of what we have. Sometimes it’s good to strip it all back and think about what we actually need or want to achieve. I am a terrible at keeping the house tidy. Don’t get me wrong our house is alway pretty clean but messy! When we decided that we were going to sell our house to move onto a bigger adventure this has become even more of a task for me to keep on top of.
