You get to choose… I’ve been thinking of how we often do things a certain way, simply because it’s how we typically see it done. I spent the early hours of my morning on the rooftop patio, having some quiet time and talking with the Lord and journaling. Reclaiming my mornings for myself has been essential to my daily peace, overall happiness and health, and has radically changed the way I’m able to show up and run my business. For a while I had hopped on the train of starting work early in the morning because that is how much of our American culture operates. But as I begun to build a new kind of photo experience for clients that revolves around slowing down, intentionality and presence, the cultural norms I was personally operating in contradicted what I was creating. So I chose to do something different, and myself and my business has been so much better for it. One of the things that stood out to me while we were in Paris was that many places didn’t open until 10 or 11am, and lunch breaks were at least an hour, if not two. I think in some ways they better understand that we are humanBEINGS, not human DOings. Whatever path of life you are currently walking along, remember that YOU get to choose the life you want to live! It’s been almost 3 weeks of quiet mornings in this little spot. When @ericdavishomeservices built this little wood shed I said “I love it but is it a little too big?” He replied “I did get a little carried away but I think it’ll be perfect in the end.” He was right. The extra space was in fact just enough space for me. I began sitting in the wood shed for coffee with the dogs every morning. Then I saw an idea from @redefine_menopause_and_midlife to start every day with 20 minutes outside; no matter the weather, without technology. This soon morphed into 15 minutes of slow awakening sitting out side, followed by 5 minutes of meditation. Don’t get me wrong it hasn’t been magical every day. Some days the city is loud and the dogs wont stop barking. But other days it is serene and still. Some mornings I still reach for my phone or my mind races with thoughts of what I need to be doing instead. But other mornings the birds sing a wonderful soundtrack while my mind rests. Were it not for the extra space in our little woodshed, I wouldn’t have had a place to sit no matter the weather. It’s funny how building in a little extra space, carving out a few extra moments & creating margin in life allows for the moments that begin to define your life rather than limit it.
