REVIEW: 1984 by george orwell ☁️ RATING: ⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 this was required reading for my ap english class :’)) 1984 follows winston smith, a citizen in oceania, which is run by the party/big brother. we follow winston’s journey through the dystopia society that he lives in. my rambling thoughts: — dare i say the best classic i’ve read thus far?! — this was such a bone-chilling read and i felt uncomfortable the entire time — the way that orwell discusses the themes of imprisonment, dictatorship, “big brother”, rebellion, and the quest for freedom was 😙🤌 you can find my full review on goodreads (link in bio) qotd: have you read 1984 or any of george orwell’s books? 🤍 follow me for more chaotic bookish content and rattle the stars dear reader 🤍🏹

🤍 Book Review 🤍 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - “Instead of an intense wave of panic at the idea of loving Iris, I feel calm. Love I can work with. I might not know how, but I’m willing to learn. For her and only her.” - Terms and Conditions, Lauren Asher I absolutely loved this! My first 5 star read this year! I genuinely think I was smiling from start to finish. If there’s one thing that Lauren Asher knows how to write, it’s grumpy x sunshine! I was rooting for these guys from the start and I instantly knew that I was going to fall in love with their story. One of my favourite things in a grumpy x sunshine is when there’s great character development. Just seeing how against everything Declan was in the beginning and then him slowly breaking down all of his walls and fall in love with Iris was just something else 😍 I mean, his grand gestures… the greenhouse?! He was so sweet when he wanted to be. Also… the word game? How freaking cute! When you realise that the covers has meaning as well, you’ll fall in love with Declan even more! Even though this book was 500 pages, Lauren Asher’s writing just made the whole thing flow, she has written a beautiful story about two people who love each other purely, they learn to be vulnerable with each other and their emotions really came out - I believed how they felt about each other and really enjoyed seeing them fall in love. I was genuinely hooked and didn’t want to put it down as I was getting towards the ending. I finished this book a while ago now and I’m still struggling to put into words just how much I loved it! There’s too many moments that I fell in love with to mention them all! If The Final Offer is anything like this, then sign me up! Book Review - My Dark Vanessa Rating ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The author tackles a sensitive subject where a 15 yr old student begins a relationship with her 42yr old teacher. The author handled this sensitive subject brilliantly and I was gripped to the story wanting to know how Vanessa turned her life around, or indeed if she did. There are two timelines, when it happened and later when she was 32 years old and the ‘Me Too’ movement started into 2017. The reason I knocked off 1 ⭐️ was purely because of the layout, font and font size. It made it quite hard on the eye at times, as well as it sometimes feeling receptive. Have you read this book? ✨ 𝚁𝚎𝚟𝚒𝚎𝚠 ✨ 𝕋𝕚𝕥𝕝𝕖: Saving Noah 𝔸𝕦𝕥𝕙𝕠𝕣: Lucinda Berry ℙ𝕒𝕘𝕖𝕤: 259 ℝ𝕒𝕥𝕚𝕟𝕘: ★★★★ Swipe for synopsis ➡️ ℝ𝕖𝕒𝕕 𝕚𝕗 𝕪𝕠𝕦 𝕝𝕚𝕜𝕖: * Dark psychological thriller * Dual POV * Short story Let’s just say, it’s sad, but also written in a morbid way. Definitely check the trigger warnings with this as it’s a dark read. I’m not a mother myself, however it’s written in a way where you think ‘how far would I go for my child?’. This may be controversial for some, but the parts where suic**e was heavily spoken about, I do believe we should have a right to end our own life when we feel like we want to. This whole ‘my body my choice’ doesn’t seem to apply to someone who hasn’t got a terminal illness. This story really makes you think about that. In all honesty, Noah got everything he deserved (sorry not sorry). The mum was so naive and didn’t seem to come to terms with that her son did, which infuriated me at times 😅. I did have my thoughts when the twist was revealed purely on the basis of lacking trust in the character, their avoidance and certain phrases that were mentioned, but it made me feel so sorry for the mum and sister and their future. 💭 Have you read this book? 📚Powerless by Lauren Roberts ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ”Remind me to make you smile like that again, when you aren’t dying, and I have all the time in the world to memorize it.” This is the first time I’m this excited for a series in a long LONG time!!! I started to follow Lauren when she started to write powerless around 2020 and to finally read it, ITS SOMETHING ELSE!!!! (even if a year later but my reading slump didn’t let me read it sooner🤡) Usually i hate a slow burn because I’m too impatient to wait for the first kiss and all of that stuff, but this book has made me a fan of slow burn. THE BANTER, THE CHEMISTRY AND NOT EVEN ONE KISS?!?!?! it made me even more excited for the other books :) And part of me can believe this is a debut!!!! Pae is literally everything I want in a main character. She’s everything younger me wanted to be. Her determination, how outspoken she was and how she expressed herself. (also the way her dresses were always styled to showcase her dagger on her thigh>>>>>>>) Kai is the book boyfriend that we want and deserve. Once he started to get rid of his walls around Pae, we got to see how much of a softy he is :) AND HE ONLY HAS EYES FOR HER AND MAKES IT KNOWN!!!!!! I tried to also love Kitt but Kai stole the show. I’m not that strong, sorry. I don’t know how im going to survive until July so I can have the second book in my hands. I’m so excited for it, it feels nice to be this happy because of a book series 🤍 “I dont give a damn if you forget who I am in title, so long as you remember who I am to you.” . . . . #bookstagram #bookaddict #booksbooksbooks #bookreview #bookreviewers #bookreviewersofinstagram #powerlesslaurenroberts #bookishcommunity

🎧📚(Audio)Book Review 📚🎧 I have a confession, y'all: I've never read Jane Austen. Phew, glad to get that off my chest. I do wonder how my reading of this swoon-worthy romance would have changed had I first read Emma. Emma of 83rd Street is a delight. Light and devour-able. A little much on the main characters think the other is interested in someone else (it's just that that's my least favorite trope) BUT I still ate it all up and when the spice came it was 🌶️🌶️🌶️. I was about 70/30 e-book/audio and definitely preferred my own narration in this one, though there was nothing wrong with the audio. I can't wait for Elizabeth of East Hampton! (Maybe I'll read Pride and Prejudice first, though! I've not even SEEN Pride and Prejudice!) ⭐⭐⭐⭐ #books #book #bookworms #bookreviewers #bookreviews #bookish #bookstagrammer #booklover #read #reader #readersofinstagram #readersgonnaread #bibliophile #addictedtobooks #readingaddiction #libby #libbyapp

REVIEW! The Estate by Denzil Meyrick Stars: ⭐️⭐️⭐️✨ Review: Crime thriller fans who enjoy multiple POVs, flawed characters and inheritance drama will want to get their hands on this one. It follows the privileged Pallander family who have grown rich by suspicious means, and the life-threatening repercussions of their patriarch’s will. It also follows Detective Inspector Cara Salt, who has lost a lot in life but never her determination to do the right thing. All of the characters are memorable, though many are unlikeable, and the mystery is complex and well-crafted, leading you to form multiple theories and suspect lots of different people. The various antagonists have darkly realistic motivations such as greed, selfishness, revenge and classism, and this, along with the modern-day setting (against the backdrop of the Russia-Ukraine conflict), makes it somewhat scarily/uncomfortably believable. I found some parts of the story fast-paced and hard to put down and others a fair bit slower, but overall this was another compelling and clever read by Denzil Meyrick. Thank you to @bantambooksuk for my copy in exchange for an honest review. #bookstagram #denzilmeyrick #theestate #bookreviews #bookreviewers #bookthoughts #bookcommunity #bookishopinions #bookrecs #bookrecommendations #booklovers #whatimreading #crimethrillers #crimebooks #crimefiction #thrillerbooks #thrillerreaders #mysterybooks #murdermysterybooks #whodunnit #detectivefiction #bookcovers #prettybooks #coverlove #newbooks #mybooks #bookoftheday #readersofinstagram #readingupdate #bantambooks

(っ◔◡◔)っ ♥ Maggie Moves On by Lucy Score ♥ Happy Puppetry Day, everyone! Yay!! It was nice to read a rom-com with adult conversations and no silly projecting emotions just to advance the narrative.  I appreciate that.  Maggie is a woman who has made her way in the world with hard work and wit and she must make a decision at a crossroads in her life that will not only affect her but multiple people, including Silas, the man she reluctantly loves.  He does try to push himself into situations where maybe he wasn’t invited but I think he does it to show her “Hey, you can actually rely on people and it’s ok”.  I love the side story of the evil stepmother and how she manipulated the family to her own ends.  Alright, Lucy Score!! I will be reading more from this author, especially in hopes of finding similar adult situations and intelligent storylines.  Definitely recommend this book if you’re fans of Emily Henry, Katherine Center, or Abby Jimenez.  ❓𝐐𝐎𝐓𝐃❓: Do you have a DIY or home improvement project you’ve done that you’re proud of and what was it? ✨✨REVIEW — Heir of Fire (Throne of Glass book 3) by @sarahjmaas ✨✨ ✨ ✨ “Once upon a time,” she said to him, to the world, to herself, “in a land long since burned to ash, there lived a young princess who loved her kingdom…very much.” ✨ ✨ Heir of Fire is an official turning point in the Throne of Glass series from a basic fantasy read to an epic fantasy. There are new characters and locations introduced characterized by the thorough world building we’ve come to know by Maas. With the transition to an epic fantasy, it can be a struggle to see where and how each piece fits in the overall story. However, as a reread, I’m able to appreciate how much thought Maas truly put into this series. This is a chessboard positioning pieces in the unfinished game, and it’s truly remarkable how throwaway lines in this book have a large impact later on. It’s also a testament to Maas’s writing that I can still find Easter eggs scattered throughout despite reading this series and the Maasverse as a whole numerous times. The thing I love most about Heir of Fire is getting to learn more about the Fae, Rowan, and his cadre. Celeana’s transformation is also remarkable as she comes to terms with her grief and self worth. I’m also continuing to do my reread via audiobook and per usual Elizabeth Evans nails the narration. She does an incredible job bringing this story and the characters to life. If you haven’t, I highly recommend checking out the audiobook for this series. ✨ ✨ Edition shown: standard OOP hardcover Overall Rating: 5⭐️ QOTD: Do you have any favorite narrators? ✨ ✨ 🏷️: #reading #Reader #ReadersOfInstagram #Readers #ReadersOfIG #ReadersOfInsta #Books #BooksBooksBooks #Bookstagram #Bookstagrammer #BookRecommendations #BookRecommendation #booknerd #BooksOfInstagram #BookReviewer #BookReviewers #BookReviewersOfInstagram #BookReviewersOfIG #BookRecommendationsOfInstagram #TalkWordyToMeTeam #SarahJMaas #MaasMonday #HeirOfFire #FantasyBooks #FantasyRomance #BookDragon #BookLover #BookLovers #AudioBook #AudioBookstagram

"The Unconventional Way to Wealth" will take you on a journey of Self improvement. The book places a greater value on creating a peaceful and balanced existence than it does on financial measurements alone. Readers can attain financial success as well as a greater sense of happiness and fulfillment by making an investment in their own personal development and well-being. It concludes with a profound message: real riches begins inside. Individuals can begin on a developing journey towards a richer and more meaningful life by embracing personal investing as a means of achieving both financial prosperity and personal fulfillment. Book Review 🥧 The Sweetness of Forgetting By Kristin Harmel ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ /5 I just love Kristin Harmel’s books so much! In the author’s note for this one, she explains that it was her first departure from contemporary/women’s fiction into the world of historical fiction. As someone who’s read a lot of her more recent books, I think the bridge between those two genres was very noticeable in this story, especially with its dual timelines. I think I loved this book even more because of the way the two worked together! The Sweetness of Forgetting is told in two different timelines. In modern day, Hope is a single mother living in Cape Cod and struggling to maintain her family’s bakery. Her grandmother, Rose, has Alzheimer’s. In a rare moment of clarity, Rose gives Hope a list of names, leading her to Paris and the story that Mamie has kept hidden about her family during WW2. As Hope uncovers Mamie’s story, we also get glimpses into Rose’s past from her own perspective in the 1940s. First and foremost - You will want baked goods literally the entire time you read this novel. You’ve been warned! The descriptions of the bakery and food itself were beautiful! I loved the dual timelines and how we uncovered little bits and pieces of Rose’s story until the full picture was revealed at the end. The way this book talked about religion, especially in the World War II context, was very interesting and gave a unique perspective, which I loved. I also really enjoyed the look at motherhood and family through Hope’s relationship with her own daughter and Rose’s relationships over the course of her life. The ending of this book was so bittersweet, but wrapped up the story in a very satisfying way. Overall, I really enjoyed this one! It didn’t eclipse my current favorites of Kristin Harmel’s, but it was another really solid WW2 historical fiction novel from her for sure. Have you read any of Kristin Harmel’s books? My favorite still has to be The Book of Lost Names! I think The Room on Rue Amelie is up next for me!

Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury ⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 Published in 1953, Fahrenheit 451 is generally considered to be a modern classic. In short, it’s a dystopian novel that explores an American society where books have been banned. The main character, Guy, is a fireman who is tasked with burning any of those that are still discovered. The novel covers his gradual disillusionment with this life, and his struggle to know what to do next. I picked this up as an audiobook and went in pretty blind. Although I’m not much of a sci-fi or fantasy reader, I don’t mind a moderate dystopian novel. For example, I’m a particular fan of novels like The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood and Brave New World by Aldous Huxley and I feel that this one fits neatly alongside those. Naturally, the idea of a world without books – and book censorship – is a pretty appalling one to us all in this corner of the internet. And even nowadays, it’s a topic we are still having to deal with as a society. For that reason, I really liked the themes that Fahrenheit 451 explores. We’re shown a world where the state is numbing its populace with endless nonsense programming that conveys nothing and means nothing. Books, on the other hand, represent a means of escaping this cycle: a world full of knowledge and information and independent thought. How true! But if I’m frank, I really didn’t enjoy the style of the prose and narration. The structure of sentences were, I assume, designed to evoke a more rigid world, but they were jarring on the ear (and I assume on the page). This didn’t make for easy listening and it made it hard for me to get invested in any of the characters. This is obviously a personal thing that I couldn’t overcome that many others may be able to – but it did impact my enjoyment somewhat. Overall, it’s a book of Big Themes and while I imagine these were bold(ish) in 1953, it’s a bit harder to find them revolutionary in 2024 when we’re a bit more self-aware. That said, I’m glad I read it and would say it is worth a go if it sounds like a genre or topic that interests you. ❓ Have you read Fahrenheit 451?

☁️☀️ the unhoneymooners - review 🏝️ Guys, guys, guys! You know when a book just gives you that five star feeling and you just had such a good time reading it - this was it for me! It was actually my @_amysbookclub pick of the month and I’m so happy we picked it! The Unhoneymooners has to be one of the funniest books I’ve ever read, I was giggling like a love drunk hyena the entire way through and I just loved Ethan and Olive so much. Their flanter was unmatched and Ethan is my favourite kind of MC. It was fun, it was flirty and I couldn’t get enough of it. This was marketed as enemies to lovers but let’s be real, our couple didn’t even hate each other. It was more miscommunication to lovers than anything else, each of them having the impression the other didn’t like them - and oh god they couldn’t have been any more wrong! I loved as that forced proximity took over and our couple actually communicated with each other, and that sizzling chemistry couldn’t keep them apart in the end Let’s not even talk about the fake dating WITH A TWIST! You know I go feral for a fake dating trope, it had me kicking and screaming like a mad woman, but this was some genius kind of fake marriage set up and OMGGGG when I tell you I lapped it up I’m not even joking. This is a perfect summer read, charming in every way and will have you swooning so hard while making you laugh out loud! The easiest 5 stars I ever did dish out! 🙌🏼

. 🦋 Book review 48/200 🦋 Title; ricochet - Krista and Becca Ritchie Star rating; ⭐️⭐️⭐️ Spice rating; 🌶️ Review; . . I love the fact we got to see and watch Lily work through her addiction and seeing her struggles in more depth to truly try to understand. That being said I don’t know why Lily didn’t push Ryke overboard that man is the definition of rude and gross. This man is 22 flirting with a 15 year old it’s just so weird and I generally see them setting them up together and that actually makes my skin crawl, he is definitely the biggest red flag going. I will say I enjoyed all the Loren and Lily moments we did get, this book came across as more as a filler for me than an actual part of the series. All I am hoping for is that Loren and Lily get their happy ever after because for me they really deserve it! . . #book #bookstagram #booklover #booknerd #bookaddict #romance #romancebooks #bookstagramuk #kindleunlimited #kindlereads #bookreview #bookrecommendations #books #bookblogger #readersofinstagram #bookish #bookstagrammer #booklove #reviewer #bookreview #bookreviewers #instaread #insteareads #instareading #bookishreview #bookishreviews #booksbooksbooks #currenttbr

Turtles All The Way Down 🐢🌀 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 Author: John Green Genre: YA Fiction ••• “Your now is not your forever” John Green has a talent for making the most simple sentences so impactful. His writing is beautiful in its simplicity to make you stop in your tracks and really think about the words on the page and how profound they are. He’ll make you question your place in the world and how you view it, but with such care and sensitivity 🌎 This was a very personal book for him. While the foci are different, he and Aza, the main character in this story, both struggle with anxiety and OCD. It can be really hard to explain to someone else how your mind can betray you and quickly spiral out of control when anxiety takes hold. We see Aza’s intrusive thoughts consume her, and send her into thought spirals that tighten and coil around her until she can’t fight the compulsions anymore 🌀 It’s heartbreaking to read because we can’t stop it. She can’t stop it. And we see the collision course but can’t do anything to prevent it 💔 In Aza’s most manic states, the writing takes on a life of its own. While I know this was intentional, it can get a little hard to follow. However, my heart was racing right along with it and I truly started to feel the panic Aza was feeling. At some point we even switch from first to second person narration, as if she’s out of her own body. This shift in perspective hit me the hardest, along with the ending that made me get misty-eyed. But what I found to be the biggest takeaway is the overwhelming theme of love in so many forms and the support system surrounding Aza through her battle with mental illness ❤️‍🩹 From friendship to familial love, romantic love and loving all the parts of her sense of self. Mental illness isn’t something you cure. It’s always with you, but so are your loved ones. It’s a read that will hit you hard and stay with you. I’m grateful to have finished it this week because the movie actually comes out May 2 on MAX! 🍿🎬 I can’t wait to see how they bring Aza’s story to the screen.

📚Review 🥰 Prequel by Rachel Maddow I read Prequel: An American Fight Against Fascism after seeing an interview in which Rachel Maddow said that rises in anti-semitism, other blaming-isms, and political conspiracies are generally always part of an attempt to subvert democracy in favor of authoritarianism or fascism. In researching other rises in anti-semitism in US history, she stumbled onto this story, which had been buried beneath the annals of time, but that had been huge news in its day—until it wasn’t. The basic story starts with how early Nazi Germany used US race laws as a model of how to disenfranchise and “otherize” Jews in Germany by basically making living-while-Jewish illegal there. The story then lays out how a relatively small group of people including many congressmen and other high-level politicians, notaries like Henry Ford, and others worked to replicate Hitler’s model of fascist government in the US in the 1930s and 40s and almost succeeded. It is also, and primarily, the heroic story of the people who stopped it—which included many ordinary citizens doing extraordinary things, ordinary civil servants defending democracy and the constitution they were sworn to protect, as well as, finally, some government officials who eventually listened—until they didn’t. The Prequel title is a reminder that history is cyclical, that democracy is a team sport in which we all have a part to play, and that again we have the opportunity and obligation to stop the march toward otherizing and authoritarianism if we want democracy in all its messiness to endure. 💥 Find more reviews in Book Reviews via the profile link 💜 #Bookreviewers #bookreaders #bookread #bookreviewblogger #bookreaderscommunity #authorsofinstagram #indieauthor #booklover #kristinemadera #kristinemaderaauthor #whatireadin2024 #RachelMaddow #RachelMaddowBook #RachelMaddowPrequel

This was a very good book and was actually pretty good. It was way better than I thought, and I actually enjoyed it. I went in a little hesitant because I’ve read several 12 dancing princess retellings, and I wasn’t sure if I would like this one. But this one was actually super interesting and much more interesting than I thought it would be. Unlike, other retellings it also just jumps straight into the story without setting up all this cute background stuff which I found much more enjoyable. The story was also a dark retelling which I wasn’t totally expecting. I kind of thought it would have dark parts, but it was a lot darker than I expected which seriously had me enjoying it. I really like dark fantasy, so this dark retelling was amazing. The spice level was also relatively low with just a few kisses with the love interest. But I would say the creepy horror imagery and death made it gorier than I thought it would be. Overall, I would give this book a solid 5 out of 5 star rating. It was certainly more interesting than I had been expecting. #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #books #bookreview #bookreviews #bookreviewer #bookreviewers #houseofsaltandsorrows #houseofsaltandsorrow #erinacraig #erinacraighouseofsaltandsorrows #12dancingprincesses #fracturedfairytale #fairytaleretelling

I have to take a minute to thank everyone who has left a review or rated one (or all) of my books. When I first uploaded to #amazon, I had no idea anyone would notice my books--let alone read them. The fact that overall they are positively received is so humbling. It took a while for someone to post the first review ( I purposely did not let any family members post). I remember being so nervous reading it. I still get nervous reading new reviews but seeing that most people are enjoying my work is awesome. I may not be a best seller (yet) but i wholeheartedly believe God brings the reader to the writer in His good timing. . . . . . . . . . #thankyou #thankyouall #thankyoufromthebottomofmyheart #thatsmybook #bookreviews #bookrecommendations #amazonbooks #indypubliclibrary #indieauthor #booksofinstagram #humbleheart #bookclubsuggestions #thankyoutoo #bookreviewers

✨️ new release ✨️ Happy release day to @genashowalter and @jillmonroebooks and GRAVE NEW WORLD! This is the final book in the Jane Ladling Mystery series, and it was bittersweet reading Jane's last adventure. I've loved so much about this series - the investigations, the relationship between Jane and Conrad, the friendships - and it all came together in the best way in Grave New World. I'm sad that Jane's sleuthing is over, but she deserves some peace with the love of her life 💜 If you love a good, cozy mystery with some romantic and platonic love thrown in for good measure, be sure to check out Grave New World and the rest of the Jane Ladling Mystery series. You can read my full review on my blog at the 🔗 in my profile. • in between death & reality. Death And The Maiden by Apinuch Petcharapiracht is classified as dark gothic urban fantasy, blended with magical realism that uncovers the realm of the underworld. I got to meet Stella, a young kid who lives with the Death of Messenger, Vikal at an abandoned tower in the middle of the capital. One of the things that interested me was there were lost children (already ☠️) that Vikal did not send their souls away. It was part of Vikal's job. What is the meaning of death if their souls are not being sent away to the afterlife? So we uncover the mystery of young Stella and the lost children. Do they die? What's their background and where do they come from? All those mysteries are unveiled chapter by chapter. I am lost in the middle of the story because I can't sense the plot where it's headed due to some filler. However, the best part is the classical music setting and the underlying plot which involves the suspicious cult, secret town x orphanage, and structure of the underworld. Talking about the characters — I believe everyone would be curious about Stella and Vikal. Stella was not a character that I expected to turn over the table. All I could say is do not believe the cover 🫢 For Vikal, he has a soft spot for humans (although he was the one that sent away their souls 👀). Tbh, I think this book is a niche to the targeted readers who prefer to find the unknown of reality and the underworld bit by bit. Translated from Thai by Pimpida Pitaksonggram and Danaya Olarikded. 3.75 stars for me. Big thanks to @times.reads & @putrifariza for the review copy #gothicbooks #magicalrealism #deathandthemaiden #timesreads #bookreviewers

📖 SERIES REVIEW Beartown series by Fredrik Backman ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Genre: contemporary fiction  💭: this series is a powerhouse. There’s so many intense themes woven through these pages. I love Backman’s writing. He’s always foreshadowing dark events to come by dropping cryptic pieces of information at the end of chapters which really helps push this series along. Seeing the characters grow through these books was both heartwarming & heartbreaking. I think the books could’ve been a little shorter & there could have been more big events that happened but otherwise I was fully invested & stay thinking about Beartown always🏒🥅⛸️🐻 🎧 BEARTOWN (# 1) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 💭: most would think this book would be the intro to the series but this is the powerhouse book; the one where everything happens. I was expected a book about hockey & competition & what i got was a raw & emotional story about a traumatic event that shakes up & divides a small town & everyone in it. We learn about the characters through this & sets the stage for the subsequent books. 🎧 US AGAINST YOU (# 2) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 💭: this is where hockey becomes more of the center piece to the story but it’s more so the community rebuilding their passion after book 1 while also dealing with newly surfaced circumstances yet again tearing this small town apart. The character development in this book I think was the best out of the three of them & I felt much more emotionally connected to this one. The end had me bawling my eyes out lol  🎧 THE WINNERS (# 3) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 💭: this book was LONG & i think it was too long. Almost 700 pages is a little past my threshold🥲 this book was a few years later which felt a little too removed from the rest of the books especially after the ending of book 2. But i understand why it was this way. There were soo many characters i kind of had a hard time keeping track. A lot of new characters made the story a little fuzzy & it was definitely more character-driven than plot-driven, and with new characters mixed with old ones, plus over the course of 700 pages i had a hard time. But the familiarity of the story and the writing and getting closure was a comfort and a perfect way to end the series.

If you have a child or have ever been responsible for one, you know that things can go very wrong very quickly. TW: missing children Six-year-old Faye and two-year-old Bea go missing in the London Underground. While Bea gets reunited with her mum very quickly, Faye is nowhere to be found. I decided to include a trigger warning, because, as much as there are no gory scenes and no children get seriously hurt, I found myself getting anxious while reading this. Partly because I am an anxious mess when it comes to my own kids’ safety and partly because the atmosphere building was SO good. I LOVED this book from start to finish. The writing was snappy and engaging. There was no dragging or pointless digressions. The pace was fast but slowed down in the right moments to build the atmosphere I mentioned earlier. The characters are slightly stereotypical at first glance, however, give them time and they will surprise you. Oh, they will. But what really sets this book apart is its storytelling finesse. It's like playing detective without leaving your sofa. Every time I muttered ‘a plot hole!’ under my breath, I was excited to find out that there was no plot holes, but it was the author’s ploy to make you think that there was one. Sure, I have guessed a couple of twists, but it didn’t matter because the final reveal was a mystery until the end. I have skimmed through some of the reviews on Goodreads and people either love this book or hate it. One of the reviews that struck me was explaining how annoying the multiple timelines and multiple pov’s were, and how going back didn’t bring anything new to the story. I disagree. Every time the author goes back into the past, we get a glimpse that explains a motive, uncovers a lie or cranks up the tension another notch. Cont. in the comment below ⬇️

This is book 1 in the Mercenary Socialites Series. ****Audiobook Review**** Narrators: Troy Duran and Angelina Rocco This story follows Sophia whois a Princess by day and a Mercenary by night. She uses her status to help people who wouldn’t be able to help themselves. Sophia is in love with Victor, a man she met while in school. He is the brother of an acquaintance and much older than her... their relationship is forbidden and their affair is kept in the dark with secret meetings and rendezvous. Sophia needs to figure out if her love for Victor will be worth losing everything or will she give up her dreams to appease her mother and the job she loves so much? First let me start out by saying that the dual narration by both Troy and Angelina was top notch. The deep tone of Troy’s voice was perfect for this story and Angelina is so talented and the perfect voice of a Princess. Their performance together is so raw and genuine. I could listen to them recite the telephone book and enjoy the way numbers are spoken...LOL. These 2 narrators are some of the best in the business and any book they perform on will be one that I enjoy. The book was one that I enjoyed and the idea of a princess being a mercenary was so fun to read. Loved how the main purpose was to help people that could not help themselves and were in very difficult situations. The side characters were amazing and I look forward to more of their stories and why they do what they do. There were portions of the book that I had a difficult time following the story due to the 3rd person narration. At times, it was difficult to figure out who was talking and the pacing seemed a bit off. Having said that, I did enjoy the storyline and the concept of the book. if you love mafia and mercenaries, this book is for you. #mercenaryprincess #settajay #alc #darkstaralcteam #darkstaraudio #audiobookstagram #audiobook #readers #bookreview #bookreviewers #readingtime #bookish #bookishlife #bookfeature #bookfeaturepage

A spur of the moment Las Vegas marriage; turned to fake marriage of convenience with benefits - set in the background of quincy town 💛 Book: Jasper Vale Author: Devney Perry Rating: 4 🌠 Pick it up if you want to read a spicy book with opposites attract; forever kind of love story (◕દ◕) This book might turn out to be my favourite of The Eden's series. In Juniper Hill, we get to see Eloise as such a loving person who was easily exploited; carrying the burden of the same & trying to prove herself that she is capable of managing the inn. Cut to Las Vegas she gets drunken married to Jasper vale who we met in Garnet flats; the brooding & silent trainer of Foster. We all end up relating to Eloise at one point; trying hard to prove ourselves; maybe in different circumstances. She tries so hard to be perfect, yet she is beautiful & perfect in the way she is. Her ambition & passion towards the inn is another reason I loved & admired her. Her ramblings are cute & her vulnerabilities made me root for her to get the best in life (✿ ♡‿♡) Jasper's character is mostly attributed to fact the way he grew, the environment & the people who grew up around. He comes off as so closed off; not wanting to get attached to any relationship. His life has been going the way he wanted, unattached & unloved. Until Eloise came off the syllabus & changed his life. Jasper & Eloise might have started off their relationship with fake marriage but it felt they were both in love the moment under the fountain in vegas. Their chemistry was off the charts. And all those longing moments made this story so much better (♡ω♡ ) ~♪ I'm just getting her books have a bit of unconventional story line of past lives for the MC's. It could have been great read if sam story line didn't exist. It just didn't sit with me in a good way. And I could have loved to see Jasper see Eden's family & experience unconditionally; stand for each other's love instead of questioning it the opposite way. I'm just getting the vibe of mystery + romance balanced in the book crimson river; and hope that one will fulfill my expectation that was set by indigo Ridge (fingers crossed :p)

Second chance romance where the exes after seven years get together; amidst landmines of secrets ♥️ Book: Garnet Flats Author: Devney Perry Rating: 3.5 🌠 Pick it up if you want to read a small town romance with complicated characters & relationship drama. But I would suggest you pick up other books in this series & if you are not like me you can even skip this one & go to the next book - Jasper Vale. Okay! I'm not a fan of this trope so maybe that's why this didn't work out for me. For me second chance romances are so tricky; they are either miss or hit. This is definitely a miss but for Talia & to read the next books in this series; somehow I finished this. We get introduced to the third sibling of the Eden family; Talia: a doctor working in quincy memorial; being hard on herself to be better even though she is perfect in every aspect. I just loved Talia so much just from the glimpses I got of her in other books & she is just so captivating she just makes you fall in love with her so easily. Her strength & determination are two things I admire about her a lot. Her vibe just makes everything better when she is around (✿ ♡‿♡) Foster Madden is a champion fighter who lands in quincy & is so adamant to hear him out & is so focused on his justification of what happened seven years ago. For me personally, I found it hard to like him. But at the same time I was not able to whole heartedly hate him. His actions had a justification but they didn't have the impact it was supposed to have as a reader to me. And the way he pushed her was so not okay. Even though he realises that yet, he keeps doing that. I also felt his assumption of things was so stupid. I don't know maybe I loved Talia's character so much; I might have not liked foster as I thought she deserved better. It's one of the flaws of liking one MC so much over the other :p But nevertheless; easy read though not as good as previous ones or the ones after this. Of all the drama; my hatred for Vivienne skyrocketed towards the end. Kadence's appearance was cute enough but was not enough to give this book an extra point (like Drake had my heart in Juniper Hill)

How to Solve Your Own Murder was a fun take on a classic mystery a la Agatha Christie. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, I’m a sucker for anything remotely mentioning the great Ms Christie. I had a lot of fun trying to solve Annie’s Great Aunt Frances’ murder, long ago predicted by a boardwalk fortune teller. There are a lot of gentle twists, turns and sleuthing. This book was beautifully written with a tiny little English village that was a character in its own right (my favorite trope). If you’re an armchair detective with a love of casts of quaint and quirky characters, this book is perfect for you.

⭐️ Book Review ⭐️ The Return of Ellie Black by @emikojeanbooks Publisher: @simonandschuster / @simon.audio Publication Date: May 7, 2024 It’s been twenty years since Chelsey Calhoun’s sister vanished when they were teens. Now a detective, Chelsey has never stopped looking for signs. It’s even bled over into her work, as she spends a lot of time looking for missing girls. When local teen Ellie Black is found alive in the woods, after missing for two years, it looks like there will be at least one happy ending. But Ellie won’t say where she’s been or who with. It’s up to Chelsey to get to the bottom of things; not only for Ellie, but for the next girl who may not be able to escape. I was immediately drawn into this story, as it seemed eerily similar to something that could happen in real life. No monsters, nothing supernatural, just real human beings doing terrible things - especially as a mother, that always hits me right in the gut. But I appreciate the author taking time to show how this happens so often, with little to no media coverage, leaving families to try to get answers on their own. Emiko Jean was not afraid to bring to light the fact that if you are a wealthy person of a certain background, then the searching you receive is quite different than a low income minority. It’s heartbreaking, and needs to change. This case was personal for Chelsey and the way it mirrored her own life clearly made her more invested in the outcome. It was at times painful to read, as she recounted what happened to her sister and simultaneously tried to figure out what happened to Ellie too. Emiko Jean did a fantastic job at showcasing just what can happen when you are in captivity, the bonds that form between victims. I was nearly in tears by the end, and I’m grateful I had the audio so I could continue listening to the story when I didn’t have the chance to sit down and read from the book. ❓how was your weekend? 🏝️ M U R D E R O U S M O N D A Y 🏝️ featuring “One Perfect Couple” by Ruth Ware! BOOK REVIEW: 🖤🖤🖤🖤/5 Lyla and Nico have been dating for a couple of years and couldn’t be more different. Lyla is a scientist striving to put herself on the map for her research studies and Nico is an aspiring actor. Lyla has been paying all the bills, while Nico has been trying to find his big break. The couple gets offered the opportunity of a lifetime to join the cast of a new reality tv show called One Perfect Couple. The show is described to be a vibe of Love Island meets Survivor. Nico begs Lyla to come with him to the tropical paradise on a desserted island. Not only is there a cash prize for the winning couple, but also the promise of good exposure for Nico’s acting career. But once all the couples reach Ever After Island, strict rules are enforced: no phones allowed and zero access to the outside world until filming completes. When a disastrous storm blows through the island leaving the cast to fend for themselves, it becomes obvious that they must band together in order to survive. However, one by one the cast begins to get picked off. Trapped with a murderer on the island, the cast must work together while protecting themselves from one another. The Hungry Dark by Jen Williams Read 24th - 27th April 2024 3.5 out of 5🌟 (rounded up) 📖 Thriller/Suspense 📖 Female MC 📖 Paranormal/Ghosts ⚠️ Child Death As a child Ashley Whitelam was haunted by strange ghostly figures she called the Heedful Ones but they haven't been around ever since what happened at Red Rigg House 18 years ago. Ashley, now an adult, has been working as a psychic medium with her brother, Aidan, providing her information about her audience via an earpiece. She doesn't have any real psychic talents so she is alarmed when Aidan announces he's had the idea of Ashley offering to help the police with a local case involving missing children. Ashley is cajoled into taking part by her father & brother, but no-one is more surprised than her when she leads the police to the body of the latest missing child. Now the police think she is involved in the kidnappings & murders & the press are beginning to pay attention too. In desperation, Ashley turns to a true crime podcaster, Freddie Miller, for help in finding out who is behind the crimes but can she trust him? Can she trust anyone? The paranormal aspect of the story was the most interesting for me & I thought it was well-handled - eerie but without being too over-the-top. Basically Ashley has an 'Oda Mae Brown' moment where the paranormal becomes very real to a 'fake' psychic. The mystery aspect was less interesting so as the baddie was really easy to spot so there was no real surprise in the 'reveal' at the end. I thought it was well-written but went on for a bit too long. Overall, it's an intriguing mix of suspense & paranormal horror, but slightly too longwinded in getting to the point. My thanks to #NetGalley & publisher, HarperCollins UK, for the opportunity to read an ARC. #TheHungryDark #BookReviewers #HarperCollinsUK #ParanormalSuspenseThriller https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/6289860860

✨️🌼 𝙼𝚊𝚢 𝙷𝚘𝚙𝚎𝚏𝚞𝚕𝚜 📚🤞 I'm a SERIOUS mood reader but I want to try to pick out a few books each month to try and read! I really need to be better about reading books from my physical TBR instead of buying new ones. You know? 😂 These are my hopeful picks for May: 🎭 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙍𝙞𝙩𝙪𝙖𝙡 🌊 𝙒𝙖𝙨 𝙄 𝙀𝙫𝙚𝙧 𝙃𝙚𝙧𝙚 (I'm doing a buddy read of this one at the very beginning of the month) 💊 𝙎𝙪𝙞𝙘𝙞𝙙𝙚 𝙈𝙚𝙙 ⛪️ 𝙋𝙧𝙞𝙚𝙨𝙩 . . . 💬 ℚ𝕆𝕋𝔻❓️ Have you read any of these? Which do you suggest I make a priority? If not, what's a book you hope to read in April? . . . 🏷 #books #booktok #booksta #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookstagramcommunity #bookworm #booknerd #bookish #booktalk #booklover #bibliophile #booknerds #bookbooksandbooks #bookcommunity #booklovers #booklove #bookreviewers #mayhopefuls

Book review 📚 ANXIOUS PEOPLE- ⭐️⭐️⭐️ Looks like this might be the most unpopular opinion. This is the first book l’ve read by Fredrik Backman. Typically, it takes around 50 pages for me to get into a book, but even after reading 200 pages of this one, I still feel like it’s nowhere close to being a book I would enjoy. Some parts felt too silly, and the dialogue seemed over-the-top and unbelievable. While I did enjoy the conversations between the police and the hostages, overall, I didn’t connect with any of the characters. So yeah, this book wasn’t my cup of tea. #anxiouspeoplebook #bookreviewers #bookrecommendation #bookpost #bookoftheday #bookstagrammers

The earthling behind the bookstagram account 🙋🏻‍♀️ 🥤👉Just let me know how are you today? Sometimes I do not just want to hide behind my books 🫣 what motivated me to post this is because of how much I appreciate seeing the faces of the bookstagrammers here 🥰 Most days I lack the confidence to upload my pic but now that my hair is messy and I have pimples on my face I do feel it is the right moment to click a random selfie and say an actual hello without the main participants of the account for once 😊 I am looking forward to be more involved here as I know by now that how much I have tried to leave book blogging, I just cannot. I find my peace here and actually see how kind and welcoming people are. Thank you for being here. Thank you amazing friends, publishers, authors and newbies and the ones who are generously sending me books! You always make most days really special and beautiful 🌤️ . . . . . . . #bookcommunity #bookstagrammers #indianbookstagram #readersofinsta #bookreviewers #bookstaverse #bookishgirl #womenreaders #readersandwriters #bookworld #facebehindtheaccount #bookgrammers #bookstagrammademedoit

⭐️ BOOK REVIEW ⭐️ THE SPITE HOUSE BY Johnny Compton ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The Spite house opens with Eric & his two daughters Dess and Stacy on the run, from what we don’t know. Eric is a black man in Texas with no work history & no contacts, so when he comes across an ad in the paper asking for a caretaker for Masson House, it seems like a blessing. When Eric arrives at the house he discovers it is a spite house, an oddly built house built with the purpose of upsetting the neighbours, its built on a hill overlooking an abandoned orphanage on the site of an historical massacre, the house is also supposed to be haunted. But with the money on offer can Eric discover the secrets of the house and keep his girls safe, all while hiding their secrets. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ If you want atmosphere this is the book for you, it basically drips with tension, there aren’t a lot of truly horrifying moments but there is a really well plotted mystery with a few twists that you don’t see coming. I loved the the characters, you get chapters from multiple peoples points of view & all of the Family Eric & his girls were characters I loved hearing from. I particularly enjoyed the primary twists as to what the family has in common with the house it was not at all what i had in mind & i loved what it added to the story, also the end was really good and satisfying I love a good ending. I would happily read another Johnny Compton book in a heartbeat, a great read. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #thespitehouse #johnnycompton #tornightfire #horrorbookreview #horrorbookreviewer #horrorbookreviews #horrorbookreviewers #bookreview #bookreviewing #bookreviewers #bookreviewersofinstagram #bookreviewsofinstagram #bookreviews #bookreviewsaustralia #bookreviewersofig #mysterybookreview #mysterybookreviews #mysterybookreviewers #mysterybookreccomendations #mysterybookreccs

🎓M E M O I R🎓 Educated - Tara Westover Her or me? Tara's education opened my eyes to an unthinkable reality. 👩🏻‍🎓The woman: undeniably inspirational. A lonely childhood, no peer connection, permeated by constant tragedy; accidents on the farm, car crashes, horrific fires, and more than your average childhood falls. Tara suffered a lack of education & healthcare, finding calm in her love for the Mormon tabernacle choir, and Buck's Peak mountain in rural Idaho. "I had come to respect pain, even revere it, as necessary and untouchable." Amidst a violent, degrading upbringing, constant abuse by her brother and father, Tara had little self worth; believing she was unworthy of an education, particularly of a Cambridge/Harvard standard. I am in awe of her conscientious, diligent, resourceful attitude to obtaining her prestigious education, and her resilience to continue with so little knowledge & understanding of what most would consider the basics. It is a relief to learn Tara turned to counselling, that it was 'nourishing', and able to provide something she could not provide for herself. Although it did not come easy - Tara has lost her family, chosen to walk away because she could not conform, and is not accepted for who she is - it is good to know Tara has found peace. "Guilt is never about them, guilt is the fear of one's own wretchedness, it has nothing to do with other people." 📖The book: astounding, hard to believe anyone lived this life. Tara's parents are delusional, toxic, uncaring, and psychologically damaging. Her father's mania, manipulation & control against the government, an education, and medicine is wild. He is mentally ill, his mental health issues ignored, his violence & abuse unpredictable & unrelenting, and the impact on his children evident & chilling. "The decisions I made after that moment were not the ones she would have made. They were the choices of a changed person, a new self. You could call this selfhood many things; transformation, metamorphosis, falsity, betrayal. I, call it an education." This book is an ode to Tara's journey to, and in, education, resulting in her independence and self-love. A mighty achievement. . . .

Book review: Love & Other Words by Christina Lauren 📖☕️💞 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫/5 This book was so sweet and so wholesome. I loved the chemistry between Macy and Elliot - both their childhood and adult versions. I definitely didn’t see the little twist coming and it was so heartbreaking. I also didn’t expect any spice in this book so it caught me by surprise ngl 😂 but this book has friends-to-lovers, second chance romance tropes, with past and present timelines, and I loved it so much. I’m ngl though, the only thing is I just couldn’t picture what they looked like 🫠 but I can definitely see why this was so hyped! I had a smile plastered to my face almost the entire time bc of how cute it was. 10/10 def recommend if you’re looking for something light and cute with a little heartbreak 😂🫶🏻 qotd: have you read this? what were your thoughts?
