Things I learned running my first marathon🏃🏼♀️💨 ❤️training takes over your life, especially closer to the event. You have to be ready to make sacrifices if you want to train properly. ❤️There is a huge learning curve! Fuelling, splits, warm ups, cool downs, recovery, hydration etc. It feels daunting at first but it’s so rewarding if you take the time to learn. ❤️The running community is full of beautiful people, with fantastic experience who are ready to support you! You will make friends for life🫶🏻 ❤️You may lose “friends” who can’t handle you doing something amazing for yourself. Although, if this happens, you’re probably better off without them. ❤️Your first marathon, despite lots of prep and training, may not go the way you want it to. Be prepared for anything! And pick yourself up if you can and get it done. Finish line not finish time! ❤️Running a marathon takes ALOT out of you. It will take a couple of weeks or more to recover, take it slow and listen to your body. ❤️It feels amazing! If you’re thinking about running long distance but doubting yourself, don’t. Today marks 10 years since you left us Paula and not a day has passed we haven't missed you and your larger than life self. "TODAY IS THE FIRST DAY OF A BRAND NEW JOURNEY." I'm taking this day as the official start of my #roadtoNYC journey. And today I officially felt the pain of #summertraining as the temp felt at 30C with humidity. My body has to start acclimatizing with the heat and humidity again. With little to no wind in most areas, today I felt a bit chilly starting at around 8km as my shirt's all sweaty already. Each marathon training is a journey. Productive Saturday morning. Started with a 4am gym session at @gofitcityhall , before meeting @cheryltaysg and @dadtokeepfit for a 13km tempo run at 5am, Followed by a 12km run with #TeamBMWGroupAsia at 630am. Ending off with a 2h cycling session with Julian and @faustinatheelf at ECP. 😅 All of us here have our own reasons for doing the @berlinmarathon this year. For me, doing it again is a personal vendetta. I messed up badly last year, and I'm going again this year to correct the wrongs. The days will start earlier, the runs tougher, and the journey will be tough, physically and mentally. Not sure how this uncle body will take it but I'm committed to the task. The Parkway has been ROCKED!! All things considered it was a great race and if nothing else it showed me the areas of my body I need focus more on in training for the next race. And speaking of...can you spot the two clues to that next race in the pictures? Take a moment... See 'em? Well, if you spotted the big 15 on the medal, you must know that 15 is the magic number to gain guaranteed entry to this race for life. And then if you spotted the purple ribbon logo on my hat, you likely guessed I'm running with @projectpurple, an organization and race team that has become as endeared to my heart as this race. NYC Marathon race recap: In case our faces don’t fully capture it, @runsue19 and I had a lot of fun on Saturday. 😄🥳 At the #Team ULTRA dinner on Saturday I found a seat next to @runsue19 and we got to chatting about each of our races the weekend previously. We both had decided that NYC would be a victory lap and agreed to run together at a party pace. Originally we were thinking party pace would be 4:15ish, since I had run my 100k the week before and Suzanne had done multiple marathons in the past few weeks. Welllll after a fun morning of frosting ourselves in glitter and surrounded by a lot of Team ULTRA cheer, we were feeling pretty pumped up. We line up in our own wave start and once the gun went off, the fun began. We slowly took in all the beauty of NYC while crossing the Verrazano Bridge and soaked in the privilege of having one side of the bridge to ourselves for nearly 2 miles. The second we made our way across you could hear the roar of the Brooklyn crowds. I don’t know if everyone was out in full force in Brooklyn because the weather was pretty perfect for spectating this year, but the crowds were lit. On multiple occasions we were all forced to funnel because the crowds swelled into the streets. As we made our way through Brooklyn we were just chatting and chatting. We saw our friend @garrrobert who was helping pace an Achilles athlete and took in all the signs. The signs! Omg, the signs were so good this year. They were clever, hilarious, and bursting with energy thanks to the people waving them. Even areas of the course that are normally a little (or a lot) quieter, actually had a few spectators blasting music and cheering loudly which was a welcomed surprise. As we made our way to the Queensborough Bridge the temps were rising and you could see a gradual slowing of the people around us. Lots of cramps, walking, and stretching, but the most noticeable thing was the silence. I swear no one uttered a word on the bridge (us included) and we battled to try and find a hole to run between the majority of people walking up it. As soon as we hit the crest of the bridge and the downslope, you could feel the energy shift. Cont in comments…

Marathon day started at 3:00am. I slept good the night before, for once I was thankful for the time change. I left the house at 4:15 and arrived in Staten Island around 6:30. First stop was to get the iconic Dunkin’ hat which I carried in my hand til the end. Starting on the Verrazano was magical. At one point I looked up to the bridge and just thought “wow, this view was worth the 15 year wait”. Flew down the bridge in like 7:49 LOL. Brooklyn was cool. It was totally crowded and at points I felt like I couldn’t even move. But I was able to keep a pretty steady-ish pace. I saw my friend Christy @boston4bc somewhere in Brooklyn (mile 4, mile 8? it’s all a blur!). When I got to the Queensboro, I was kind of done with the effort. It was warm and full sun at this point. I personally didn’t think the climb was horrible. It was noticeable. I hung pretty strong though mile 19 with my pacing honestly not that far off from where I was through Brooklyn. At mile 20 I was burnt toast so I did decide to run walk, which I have never done in a marathon before. The heat and hills had started to get to me, and I wanted to enjoy the remaining miles. I think walk-running actually helped click the miles by faster, if you can believe it, because most of my miles stayed in the 9’s. At mile 21, my friend Courtney @_ckmiles_ jumped in with me and gave me such a boost to keep going! A little cheer goes a long way especially at mile 21 of a marathon. I enjoyed sharing that 0.1 of a mile with you! Thanks for the boost! Climbing into the park was brutal. I mean brutal. It’s straight up for a good mile. I knew I was almost there and just did what I could. Stuck to my walk run plan of 1-2 minutes per mile to stay calm and controlled. Central Park was like nothing else. Just a wall of sound and people screaming my name. The race counts down from 1 mile to go and I just tried to take it all in. I felt the tears coming. I couldn’t believe it. 15 years in the making and it was EVERYTHING it’s hyped to be and more. 4:00:28. My third slowest. My first non-sub-4 in 14 years! But 4 flat on a hilly course on a warm day and walk/running the last 10K is not too shabby.

Medal Monday from the top of NYC! The New York City marathon will forever have my heart and being a part of #TeamULTRA is the icing on top. The energy, enthusiasm, and love that the team brings is 💯. I was so grateful to spend start to finish with @runsue19 yesterday and crush a sub 4 with her only a week after my 100k and she ran MCM. My lifelong friend @nadiae630 whom I met thru the Michelob Ultra team and ran the streets of NYC with! 5. Meeting with @bartyasso and sharing our stories and battles with autoimmune disease. 6. At mile 18 they had to stop us to close down the roads for emergency vehicles for a fire. We waited, standing there for several minutes. 7. The final chute in Central Park where you feel all the emotions!! 8. That medal was hard earned ya’ll! This was definitely the most challenging marathon course I have ever run! Those bridges about did this flat lander in! But it was also one of the most incredible experiences I have ever had! 9. My hubby was there supporting me thru it all!! ❤️ 10. So grateful to Michelob Ultra for bringing me together with really incredible people to have this experience that I will never forget!!

NEW YORK MARATHON 2024 Heute bin ich um 7:30 Uhr alleine auf die Strecke des Berlin-Marathon gegangen, um einen Marathon zu laufen. Warum? Weil es geht natürlich, aber vor allem, weil ich damit die Challenge von @strava und den @nyrr abschließen und den Virtuellen New York Marathon finishen konnte. Und warum? Weil ich dadurch, wenn alles geklappt hat, einen Startplatz für den echten New York City Marathon bekomme und mich 2024 zum dritten Mal der Brückenchallenge stellen kann. 𝘚𝘦𝘮𝘪 𝘥𝘦 𝘓𝘢𝘶𝘴𝘢𝘯𝘯𝘦 - 𝘓𝘢 𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘯𝘪𝘦̀𝘳𝘦 𝘢𝘷𝘢𝘯𝘵 𝘕𝘠 ! 7/8 du challenge Grand Huit 🎢 Direction Lausanne en train samedi matin aux aurores 🇨🇭 Apres le retrait des dossards, on est parti visiter le musée Olympique qui est assez stylé je dois dire. Puis go à l’auberge pour se poser un peu avant un footing de décrassage. Réveil à 6h le lendemain, je pensais qu’avec le changement d’heure ça allait être moins rude mais j’ai plus l’impression d’avoir perdu une heure que d’en avoir gagné une 😴 Petit dej, préparation puis c’est parti direction le départ en petites foulées. Deuxième sas pour moi. Pas de dinguerie, le plan est simple : 15km à allure marathon puis le reste en récup. Un parcours en mode toboggan 🛝 ça descend fort dès le début puis des up and down sur toute la course. Personne en guise d’ambiance, je comprends vite que ça va être long cet aller/retour. ✨ La vie n’est pas un sprint. C’est un marathon. Si tu veux tenir sur la durée il faut accepter de ralentir le rythme✨ David Bonhomme 〰️〰️〰️〰️ J-7 pour la ligne de départ sur Staten Island ! C’est dingue, on va faire le MARATHON de NYC 🇺🇸😃. Un rêve que je vais réaliser en amoureux 😍. Mais, cette aventure de 42.195km n’est pas sans peine, je me suis investie (bcp solo) dans une bonne prépa : 4 séances/ semaine pendant 3mois, un peu de renfo (pas suffisamment) et un suivi kiné pour ma tendinite (je crois qu’on l’a vaincue 🤞🏻) . Nous sommes prêts 🤜🏻🤛🏻 et bien équipés 😉 . Se eu fosse listar todos os fatores que levaram a tornar esse ciclo de maratona tão difícil, vocês chorariam comigo é sério, assim como fiz em vários treinos e mesmo nos momentos que estive psicologicamente abalada não deixei de entregar um treino sequer. Eu não sei em que momento a corrida me encontrou ou se fui eu quem encontrei nela meu refúgio, mas sou absolutamente grata por viver esse esporte que a cada dia me ensina, me transforma, me faz acreditar que posso ir além do que eu posso ser e imaginar.. Por aqui, continuo firme no meu propósito focando toda minha energia naquilo que posso (pude) controlar e flexibilizando (aprendendo) a lidar com aquilo que foge do meu controle.. Plus question d’essayer de faire mieux sachant que NY est dans 2 semaines. Changement de programme, @zak.madou me planifie un joli progressif : 3x7km en 5:15 | 5:00 | 4:45 Je suis trop rapide sur le premier bloc mais ça passe encore, encore trop rapide sur le deuxième, pas ouf et du coup il fallait serrer les dents pour le dernier. Pas mal de fatigue accumulée avant ce semi / ce week-end. L’enchaînement commence à se faire sentir surtout avec les règles qui ont débarquées avec deux jours d’avance. Néanmoins un deuxième meilleur temps sur la distance 🥈 Une ambiance très différente de celle du marathon mais un parcours bien plat propice à la perf. Place à la semaine d’affutage en enlevant les séances d’intensité mais en gardant de la distance et un peu de tempo.
