Do you need a run coach? 🪽⚔️🏃‍♀️🔥 No, in reality all you really need to do is start running! I mean pop on your shoes and head out the door and you’re starting your running journey. April Training 🤝 My focus these last four weeks was increasing my bodyweight strength (pull ups & dips), morning miles and building a solid recovery program for my body to perform at its best! In the last 12 months I’ve completed: - 2 natural bodybuilding shows - A solo Ironman distance triathlon (my race was cancelled) - Powerlifting total of 1290lbs and 63km ultramarathon in the same day - Another (official) Ironman triathlon beating my time by over 2.5 hours I also did a side quest in October where I squatted 315 for 15 reps, ran 1km in 3:21 and ran 23km in same day All in less than 1 year I looked my leanest and most muscular, swam, biked and ran further than ever before, became the strongest of my life and learned a lot about myself in the process. For me hybrid athlete goals are exciting just to see what the body is capable of. It’s fun to actually be an athlete not just look like one Training for goals that don’t compliment each other at all simultaneously and solving the problem of getting better at both without sacrificing muscle and strength or endurance. I also have the attention span of a goldfish so doing multiple things is far more enjoyable, keeps it interesting. I didn’t start pursuing any endurance goals until just 18 months ago so I’ve kept myself busy since I caught the bug for every challenge I could think of. The last 12 months were pretty nuts and I’m excited to see what’s next 👀 #hybridathlete #ironmantraining #hybridtraining

🧈6 Moves for Buttery Joints Motion is lotion. Apply liberally. Whether you’re feeling creaky and stiff or you’re dealing with aches and pains.. Mobility work is a tool that can help things feel better. Your muscles, joints, and connective tissues were made to move. It feeds them with nutrients. And it can have an effect on the nerves that tell the brain to calm things down for a bit to reduce those stiff and painful sensations. Personally, I like to be efficient with my mobility work and not have to spend an entire 30 minutes on “mobility training”. Here are some of my go-to’s: 👉Hip Pry to Hamstring Flosser 👉Cossack Squat to Spiderman Lunge 👉Down to Up Dog 👉Shin Box Switch 👉Bootstrapper + Rotation 👉Thoracic Bridge Hitting 6-8 each side does the trick for me 👌 Try em in a morning routine, as movement prep, or as snacks throughout the day. Tough intervals session - and most of it my fault 😅 . Still battling a tough project at work so another late night finish was had - sadly this messed up the timings of my meals today as I had a mid afternoon snack ready for this session but by the time I got out that was long gone 😅 . Started to feel 'empty' and light headed in the first interval so snacked on a @kendalmintco mint cake bar, then interval two was all struggle, but by lap three that glorious energy kicked in and I saw my best pace of the night 😅🤣 I just should have eaten it before setting off 🤣🤣😬 . CASEIN - At nearly 50 I think my body is virtually dead at night 😐 it's just lying there, pretty dormant 😆 it's not repairing, replenishing and rebuilding muscle like it did in my 30's. Building muscle, keeping it, training with lots of intensity and recovery at the wrong end of 40 is a challenge! I do as much as I can to help; - Eat a high protein diet - Use Creatine, Protein Powders, BCAA's, Vitamin D - Consistency with training - Sleep .. Sleep .. Sleep - Mix the training up - PUSH it, PULL it, LIFT it, DRAG it and CARRY it AND recently, supplementing with CASEIN. I met @dr_a_cox a while ago and he asked if I was having Casein. I said yes and told him what I was doing, he replied 'nah mate that's shit' 🤣 and suggested I take a Casein supplement 30 mins before bed and I can honestly say that since I've been doing this my recovery is wayyy better than it has ever been. It’s crazy how surprised I am that lifting on my injuries didn’t make them feel better🤡 In all seriousness, I’ve been running into a few injuries lately and it seems like right when one is feeling a little better another one introduces itself. It’s definitely frustrating, especially as I’ve started feeling weaker, but I’ve learned to let frustration be a reaction rather than a posture. It’s so tempting to push through injury and/or let it just dominate your life (mood, activity, etc), but I think there’s a healthy balance that I’m still learning about. But of course, the most important thing about injuries is to avoid them so stay injury free ppl bc injuries are not fun!! @reclaimfxn ran a HUGE 39 min postpartum marathon PR at the Tacoma Marathon this past weekend! Megan has been working with @pallas.io since mid-last year and has made tremendous progress in the past 4 months alone. We are beyond impressed with how consistent she was with her training while juggling being an incredibly busy working professional and mom. In a previous life my release would have been to head straight for a drink on days like today, and every now and again I still get that urge but I know what's best for me to keep my head straight. Some of you need to prioritize putting muscle onto your frame more than you need to focus on fat loss right now. Noticeable muscle gain takes long-term commitment to eating enough, lifting weights, recovering properly, & patience. Unfortunately, social media sells us this picture that putting on muscle is really easy. That all you have to do is buy a template, eat at maintenance or go into a surplus, lift some weights, & VOILA! Mission accomplished. It doesn’t often work like that. Some of us don’t have the genetics to put on muscle as easily as others. Does this make it impossible? Definitely not! But it can make it a lot harder. Next, a 2-3 month period dedicated to muscle gain is NOTHING in the grand scheme of things. It may be enough time to lose a decent amount of fat, but it’s barely scratching the surface of your muscle building potential. Muscle gain is the compounded effect of YEARS of work both in & outside the gym. You don’t just do a bulk for a few months, throw around a few weights, & BAM, you’re jacked. Sometimes, you have to stay in a “bulk” for a much longer period of time. Or you need to increase the frequency of times you spend in a surplus. Doing a SINGLE gaining phase is likely not going to get you to where you want to be. Unfortunately for us experienced lifters, the more time we’ve spent lifting weights, the harder it is to continue to gain muscle - newbie gains are real. That means we need to make sure we’re training intelligently, & with intent, intensity, & purpose. If you aren’t seeing muscle gain results over the past year, then you might not be: Patient enough. Eating enough calories & protein. Eating protein at the right times & quantities. Following a GOOD, periodized training plan. Going heavy enough with lifts. You are doing an extremely high volume of cardio (some is fine). Recovering enough. That means prioritizing sleep, stress management, taking deloads, etc. Not sure where to start? Today I just didn't want to. I had a sub par run this this weekend and today seemed to be yet another one. HOWEVER, I have a process when things are tough on a run or ride. I stop for a minute and remind myself that this is a blessing to be able to run! To be free! To see all of God's beautiful creations. After taking that all in, I end up feeling so much better and finishing my run strong. Give it a try!
