* sorry , not sorry for photo spam! Beautiful day for a day in the dark peak! Started in Edale ( only just got a parking space ๐ณ ) and went through the village to find the start of the Penine way. Followed it up to Jacobโs ladder. Such amazing views from here might have to plan a route running down it to fully take advantage of this! Then over to Brown Knoll and Rushup edge . Over to the Lords seat and onto Mam Tor iit was so busy at the summit and along the ridge. Dropped back down into Edale at Hollins cross this was quite a challenging descent and I nearly did the splits a few times ๐คฃ๐คฃ wasnโt sure of the weather and I think Iโd have been better in trail shoes as opposed to my fell shoes. Then wipes and litter strewn across the ground. Trail Excursions & Cloud Inversions - Edale Skyline With a forecast for widespread morning mist I was quietly confident that our Edale Skyline attempt would be accompanied by a cloud inversion or two along the way. We arrived in Hope, quite literally, shrouded in thick fog after having some tantalising glimpses on the drive in, ready to begin our 21 mile circuit of the high ground around the Edale Valley. First up was the steep climb up to Win Hill, which is one of the best vantage points in the Peaks anyway, but as we broke through the cloud we knew we were in for a treat. From atop the Pike we had 360ยฐ views of the surrounding valleys, each filled with a deep blanket of roiling cloud that ran into the distance in all directions. Away to the east we could see the peaks of our route protruding like islands from the mist, Lose Hill the most prominent just across the narrow valley. We could have stayed up there all morning soaking in those views but there were trails to be run and mud to be splattered so we set off along the old Roman Road towards Hope Cross and the Kinder Plateau beyond. The Southern edge of Edale Moor offered yet more spectacular views, adding another obstacle to staying on your feet aside from just the mud and snow. As the morning wore on and we climbed to the head of the valley, crossing across Brown Knoll, the cloud began to lift and we found ourselves back in the clag, heads down traversing the endless flagstones to Rushup Edge. We reached Mam Tor to find it in the throws of the usual weekend hordes, we wasted little time as we pressed on along the ridge, demonstrating the best way to navigate a muddy puddle (much to the shock of the assembled crowds). Busy day bagging not ONE... Not TWO... But THREE Ethels!!! This takes our total up to 19/95 so far ๐ฅณ ๐Mam Tor, Lose Hill & Lord's Seat ๐ 7 miles โ๏ธ 1,680ft elevation gain โฐ๏ธ Highest point: Lord's Seat (550m) ๐ ฟ๏ธ Mam Nick National Trust Car Park (SK123832) It was a beautiful, but breezy, day ticking these three off. Mam Tor is like a motorway though with a constant stream of people venturing up and down. It was relatively busy all the way from Mam Tor to Lose Hill, so not the place to be if you prefer a quieter walk. It was great to see so many people out, but the lack of consideration for other walkers was disappointing. The amount of people failing to walk single file on narrow sections started to make my blood boil... Especially the one lady (walking alongside someone) who brushed into me and then barged into Mr C who was carrying Arthur ๐ก If you're after more of a quiet time, head up the Rushup Edge side of Mam Nick. This side is a lot less busy with wonderful views of the valley.
