If you ask me which is my favorite asana, I’d say Sarvangasana also called shoulder stand. Apart from all the physical benefits, it has an enormous effect on our nervous system and the brain. I can literally feel how my mind is shutting down like a computer system when you shut down your computer as soon as I’m in the asana. The mind becomes calm and serene. Ever have to stand in line for something? Have you ever been in a waiting room? How did you feel? Back sore? Fidgeting? Sighing, and getting anxious or angry? When you try to settle a child, often you encourage exercise or even an impromptu "shake your sillies out" moment to release energy. Though it may not be appropriate for us adults to start flailing and shaking body parts at the doctor's office waiting room, (hmmm? 🤔 ok, no.) we can use yoga asana daily to move and shift our energy in preparation for these life situations. If we have an itch that we don't scratch, and then expect to sit down quietly, that itch will just get more intense if our mind isn't able to ignore it. So before your quiet and still moments - watching a movie, waiting in line, sitting at your desk etc etc... why not move your body a little, so your mind doesn't have to deal with all the discomforts that pop up physcially? A body that moves is one that can settle better. A settled body can help an unfocused mind. Cause/effect. So let's not expect to sit down in still meditation for the first time for 3 hours and have a great experience mmmkay? PS: Did you know that opposite is true too? A focused mind can settle us physically too! Sarvangasana (Shoulder Stand Pose) In Six Steps: 1. Begin by lying on your back (supine position) on your yoga mat with your arms alongside your body, and palms facing down. 2. Relax your entire body and take a few deep breaths to center yourself. 3. On an inhalation, engage your abdominal muscles and gently lift your legs off the floor, keeping them straight. Support your lower back with your hands by placing them under your hips or lower back, palms facing down. 4. Continue to lift your legs until they are perpendicular to the floor, forming a 90-degree angle with your torso. Keep your neck and head in a neutral position, looking straight up towards the ceiling. 5. Once your legs are lifted, use your abdominal strength to lift your hips off the floor, bringing your torso into a diagonal line with your legs. Press your elbows and forearms firmly into the mat to support your weight and stabilize the pose. Ensure that your weight is evenly distributed across your shoulders, upper back, and elbows, avoiding putting too much pressure on your neck. 6. If needed, you can walk your hands further down your back towards your shoulder blades to deepen the stretch and provide additional support. Keep your chin slightly tucked towards your chest to lengthen the back of your neck and avoid compressing the cervical spine. 'The brain is the hardest part of the body to adjust during asanas.' Your brain will always choose what is familiar, whether it is good for you or not. Because there are no surprises with something that you already know, but with that logic, it also stops you (thinking it's protecting you) from going further. The good news? You can work on it. Yoga asanas kind of force you to do that and I absolutely love it. Not denying that it can incredibly challenging and terrifying sometimes but that's part of the process, ya? When the posture is demanding, you have two options - slow down your breathing and connect within or panic and back off. Why that matters? Übrigens, im dritten Trimester kann sie sogar deinem Baby helfen, sich zu drehen, wenn es noch in Beckenendlage ist. Eine wahre Unterstützung für Mamas und Babys! Das bringt’s: ➡️ Öffnet Schultern und Brustkorb ➡️ Dein Nacken wird entlastet und sanft gedehnt ➡️ Kräftigt die ganze Körperrückseite inklusive Po, Füße und Waden ➡️ Schenkt dir Zuversicht und Offenheit für die bevorstehende Geburt ➡️ Öffnet dein Herz ➡️ Dein Anahata Chakra und dein Vishudda Chakra werden aktiviert So geht's: 1. Lege dich in Rückenlage und stelle deine Füße hüftweit und parallel zueinander auf, die Füße direkt unter den Knien. 2. And I love my bed. 😂 One of my favourite poses to practice in bed is a variation of the Shoulder Stand or Sarvangasana. 🛌 This magical pose does more than just stretch your shoulders and neck. It’s an stress-buster that soothes the mind and alleviates depression symptoms. Sometimes we need a different perspective. It’s also a wonderful way to stimulate the thyroid gland, and other abdominal organs. The Sarvangasana also kickstarts lymph movement and elimination, relaxes the legs, improves digestion, and even helps alleviate menopausal symptoms. If you’re menstruating though best to not practice this pose. Feeling fatigued or battling insomnia?
