Sometimes I forget that I'm connected to everything. And it kind of hurts. I get cranky, feel overwhelmed more easily, and have a harder time feeling hopeful about the future (bc I mean let's face it the world is a little crazy right now 🤪). Sometimes I feel a physical ache. Usually I remember pretty quickly, though. I've learned to put myself in situations where I'm more likely to experience awe when I feel that way. I often feel more present and connected when I feel that childlike wonder at what's around me. I play, I dance, I go outside. Good design is more than aesthetics. Good design is the intersection of form & function. This is why I love it so much! It pushes me to know more, learn more, expand more. One of the designey sh*t I geek out on the most is colour psychology. Colours are so much more than just preferences. They're key to evoking certain emotions within our target audience & allows us to connect with them more intentionally. Swipe to dig in 👉 Therefore, when choosing the colours of your brand or project, ensure that the intention is set from the get go and that there is crystal clarity who is the audience & use those to inform you of your decision. For instance, if you're a yoga instructing then using the colour red as your brand's palette would be counterintuitive. A better choice would be the colours blue, green & yellow as they evoke more calming emotions. On the flip side, if you're a personal trainer who trains high intensity workouts then choosing colours such as red & orange would be best as they are often associated with energy & passion. Never thought I'd say this but... I am in love with Mondays! Instead of getting Sunday blues, I've been getting- what I like to call- Sunday glitters (lol) Seriously! Every Sunday I get giddy w/ excitement for the next day. I journal incessantly about my big plans for the week & eagerly await for Monday to come so I can get started. It is insane to think I've come to love Mondays because I used to HATE them mere 2-3 years ago... My Sunday blues were intense & I'd often get panic attacks by the end of the weekend- that's how much I hated Mondays. Now... They've become magical. My favourite day of the week. It is the day that begins the magical week ahead. A week filled exciting creative projects, connecting w/ inspiring humans, dressing up as my best, aaaand hearty (delicious) cups of matcha. Last week👇 🌼 I got to create whimsical illustrations for @raconteuseco's Substack & it LITERALLY reawakened the romanticist in me 🌼 I began a new (and very exciting) partnership as a content creator 🌼 I finalized the mini rebrand for @wearezehra w/ @taylor.bydesign (it's coming together soooo well) 🌼 I strategized & planned upcoming programmes for our community at @get_starryai (think creative workshops & hangs!!!) 🌼 I started developing an awesome freebie to help you develop your very own personal brand that gives & gives & gives ;) Today I woke up to 👇 🌼 A friend referring me for an exciting job opportunity at a startup 🌼 Getting matched w/ a very very VERY exciting creative project on @contra 🌼 Bustling messages from the starryai way ( @get_starryai community) 🌼 A ton of ideas for the content I wanna create for @raconteuseco (my personal creative playground) And it's just the first day of the week... Perhaps one of my mama's favourite nuggets of wisdom, which she often throws at me when I most need it! I guess the equivalent to this phrase would be... "Life starts at your end of your comfort zone." Somehow though, this hits different. In fact, I'd say, this hits home. I often mistake the good for the best & convince myself this is great, this is it. When, really, it isn't. When, really, there is more available for me, if I can just see it. This is why this phrase is so dear to me. It acts as a guiding light for me to decipher if I am merely settling for "good" or have I indeed arrived at my "best." For me, starting my online brand building journey as a branding consultant/coach was pretty good... was it my best? Not really. However, it paid well & I was able to take the advantage of hopping on the coaching bandwagon- so you know, it was good. But def not my best. My best, you see was to craft experiences, to design, to cultivate, to strategize. I only realized this when I started hosting rooms on Clubhouse & connected w/ folks who had studios offering DFY services. So I pivoted, went all-in & relaunched @wearezehra as a brand design studio. Finally, my best. Nope. While I truly enjoyed the work, it wasn't doing as well as I had hoped. But I kept to it. Kept rowing, hoping it'd just work- 'cause it had to! But then, my mother reminded me of the phrase again. Don't settle for good, when you're meant for best. So I detached myself from the idea of running a branding studio. I detached myself from any idea, really. My focus was to achieve my best- whatever that may be. So I opened myself to the Universe & listened. This is when I cracked it. It was marketing as a whole where my true zone of magic lied. So I pivoted, again. And it has been the best decision. Did I give up design entirely? Nope. It is still a big part of what I do w/o it taking centre stage. And not just in my career, this phrase has also helped in all aspects of life: boys, friends, routines, etc. Good is comfortable but it can also be an obstacle to reaching our best. So key is being mindful of the difference & not stopping till we reach our best!
A current read 📚 I’m making great progress with reading One Day and I have to say, I am getting into it more than I thought. I was a little doubtful at the start as I don’t want to always jump on the hype bandwagon but thought I’d give the book a chance 🤔 I’m not a massive romcom person, so initially the book wasn’t getting my full attention, but over time and as I’ve gone through the different stages of the book I’ve found more interest in the storyline. Trying to find “home within myself” has been an important topic for me over the past 15 years or so. I’ve moved around a lot, found a sense of home in different people and places, and then struggled to feel like I belong in others. What I’ve learned is that that feeling of “being at home” has a lot to do with myself, accepting the way I am and living the life I want to live. It’s linked to my values - and the feeling that I can just be myself. How do you feel about this topic? What would you add to the list? The older I get the more protective I am of myself and my way of living. Time is precious and I want to use it wisely — with the people who accept, love and appreciate me the way I am. Part of that means setting boundaries but also removing myself from situations and people that make me feel like I am not good enough, judged and taken for granted. A hard lesson for someone like me who (for a long time) tried to please everyone around me. A hard but good one, because it’s been part of finding home within myself. There are many more thoughts on the concept of home in the upcoming ‘Homecoming’ issue (which as you can imagine, is a very important issue for me personally). I know you're probably thinking, "It's easier said than done..." But believe me when I say that it is a lot simpler than you might think. Of course, there is A LOT that goes into cultivating a personal brand & it is an ever-evolving undertaking. With that said, it is a lot more fun & rewarding than most realize. In fact, ever since I developed an aligned personal brand, I feel a lot more anchored & fulfilled, not just in my career but in almost every aspect of my life! Someone once said to me, "personal branding is personal growth on steroids." And honestly, the more I trek on this journey, the more I realize that to be true. But enough of WHY you should cultivate a personal brand, here's a very simplified roadmap to the HOW of it all 👇 ⭐ Start with the WHY: Understand the real purpose behind your intention to cultivate your personal brand. It needs to be deeper than just extrinsic rewards like time freedom and financial abundance. ⭐ Get clear on the WHAT: Having clarity on who you're services & WHAT you're serving them with is KEY. Get as specific as possible because this will be the bulk of what will keep you going. ⭐ Map out the HOW: When you have the deep understanding of the why & the what, mapping out the how comes easy. Reverse engineering is honestly the best way to ensure you end up where you dream to be so utilize this method in drafting the map of your journey. ⭐ Leverage VISUAL FORM: many of us underestimate the power of visual form. We tend to dust it off & focus more on functionality. Don't get me wrong. Functionality is essential but so is visual form. Showing up as your best self is just as important as acting like your best self. First impression matters, almost always. So ensure you get it right from get go. AND REPEAT! You'll need to keep revisiting your WHY, WHAT, HOW & VISUAL FORM as you & your journey evolves. Your personal brand isn't static. It is ever-evolving. Just like the snake needs to shed its skin, you'll need to iterate your personal brand as each season passes. And honestly, that's what makes the whole process so fun!
