There are numerous “experts” who post videos of themselves consuming a handful of supplements 💊every day to address their “deficiencies”, and just as many ads that pop up when you scroll through your Instagram feed, claiming that some new combination of vitamins, minerals, and mushrooms will miraculously solve all your problems. But do you really need those pills, gummies, powders, and liquids to maintain the necessary levels of these substances that our bodies need to thrive? 🤔 The short answer is — NO. In fact, with very few exceptions, we can obtain sufficient amounts of macro and micronutrients from our food. You can see #is_foodvssupplements for some examples. However, it's important to consume a wide variety of different foods. The general rule is to obtain all the necessary vitamins and minerals from food by following two basic principles: aim to have at least 5 different colors on your plate for every meal and strive to consume at least 30 different types of plants each week. Another reason to focus on a diverse diet is to support a healthy microbiome — a bustling community of friendly bacteria (probiotics) that reside in your gut. They thrive on the diversity of plant-based foods as well. NAKED CARAMEL SLICE An old family favourite in my house… but finding a caramel slice that didn’t taste heavily processed or grainy with sugar really was a challenge. I could never understand how they could get this classic recipe wrong…. Anyway so fast forward and I found the caramel slice in the NHC guide made of wholefoods and based on cashews. To me this was madness… I couldn’t see the connection between the ingredients - but I blindly trusted the creation and made it anyway…. does anyone else like chick-fil-a and pizza more than salad? I mean.... seriously, it’s like impossible to EAT the recommended amount of fruits and veggies in your everyday diet. Hi there, I’m Kirsten, Mum to 6, and I lack sleep. Being tired was legit my daily excuse for everything. And it was real too. I’m too tired to mop the floor I’m too tired to do the shopping I’m too tired to cook dinner I’m too tired to call the bank I’m too tired to exercise I’m too tired to play with my kids. I was even more tired after drinking coffee.... wtf is that about?! You name it I was f**king exhausted. But I didn’t want to be the tired mum, So something had to give. WHOLEFOOD - such a commonly tossed around word these days right? There’s a reason we need to eat as close to nature as possible, our bodies will naturally function at its best. I'm a busy mum of 6, and often I just don't get the time to prepare intense vege packed healthy meals for every single meal of the week. Don't get me wrong.... I love smoothies and make them at home nearly every day but knowing I can skip the green smoothie and still stay on top of my nutrition so easily is the best! To think that now it's kind of just the norm to pay between $9-12 for a smoothie and just quietly most of them aren't organic, aren't full of veggies but more likely filled with crappy sugary juice to make them taste ok. When I started on my health program, I remember thinking that $4 a day was a lot to spend. Until I started being honest with myself and comparing them to other things I was spending my money on each week that wasn't serving me at all! Coffee, wine, takeaway lunches, smoothies, bottles of water (such a waste of money just for not being prepared!). Totally happy I decided to ditch the daily caffeine hit and put my health first. FOCUS... Where does your focus and your intention lie? Do you prioritise your thoughts in the best possible way in order for them to provide you with a soulful and content life. Something I’ve learned over the years but that has been truly cemented in throughout 2020 has been this... Care LESS about more, and Care MORE about less. To a frivolous mind this sounds self-centred. But the reality is this. When you put your care factor into less - you’re blocking out so many insipid negative things that can alter your state of mind and that don’t need to be present in your life. The woman who cut you off for example, or the person at work who is in a bad mood... the internet not working or running late for an appointment. In every circumstance there would be a person saying “but no, that’s inconveniencing me!” But is that worth ruining your peace for? Really? There are very few things that we need to be concerned about that can ruin us and so many more amazing things that we NEED to care about that will give us more in the long run. I choose to seperate myself from the negative, and I choose to embrace myself as a person in every way because I know without any doubt that my intention is to benefit others. So I’m unafraid of peoples opinions because I respect that we all have one and we are all brilliant in our own way.
