Here is the recipe for Ukrainian Easter Cake. It has so many variations, super similar to Italian panettone and can pass for both. It's for them. Accountability : "an obligation or willingness to accept responsibility or to account for one's actions" Changing habits and getting healthy is hard and it's even harder trying to do all that alone. Even harder when your circle, square, triangle or whomever you "have" isn't going in the same direction as you. Those are called weights. Now I'm all for lifting some weights, but not the ones holding be down or back. Big changes coming...loading... I'm back with my health coach, @demullinghealthcoaching, getting back on track. This is day one. We are here. We are doing this. No other focus for rest of year. Spartan or any other race is taking a backseat. Why? Because I need to just focus on me, my health and not juggle the mathematics of getting healthy plus getting fit for a race plus or minus all the ways to get there. It's overwhelming and whelp my anxiety has taught this past year, we are already overwhelmed. This program works. I was living proof of it but changed focus trying to do the calculus for races. Then failed that race, did ok for a bit after, then darkness set in and the rollercoaster health back on and off cycle took over. Now I've found a couple of gems who are like minded and health focused, my health coach included. Nuts... One serve per day. 🥜What's a serve? A handful. Obviously it varies depending on the size of your hand (and that's a good thing because our bodies are different sizes too). Depending on your hand size, it will be *approximately* 30 - 35 grams. 🥜What counts? Raw, skin on, unsalted. Nuts are valuable for their phytonutrients, their fats, and their fibre (yep, the 'three Fs' 😆). These features of nuts are exactly what makes them so good for our heart, brain, gut and weight management. But cooking nuts or taking their skin off alters and reduces those benefits. Dunking them in sugar or chocolate? Sweetened nuts have been roasted or processed in other ways which not only discounts their benefits but also adds components your gut won't thank you for. By all means enjoy roasted, salted, chocolate etc nuts... Just don't kid yourself that they count as a 'FOR' in terms of physical health. 🌟 THE IMPORTANCE OF EATING WHAT YOU ENJOY 🌟 This has been my breakfast for the last 30 days (with varying HP granola, HP yogurt and fruits). If I was going to give myself a fighting chance of sticking to a calorie deficit of 4-500 calories a day after my unhealthy habits were spiralling, I knew I had to make sure I’d be eating the things I enjoy. This breakfast is higher in calories than most breakfasts, but I LOVE it, and it keeps me satiated until lunch time. When I go on hols, I’ll always head for the granola. I just love it. This has obviously kept it simpler for daily tracking. Literally 10 seconds out of my day to tick it in. I’ve spoken before about cereals, particularly granola being demonised. Knock it off honestly. I’ll be heading into a 3 day diet break tomorrow when I go away, but when I’m back on it on Monday, I won’t be in this 30 day challenge anymore, but I will be back on the granola. I’ll be measuring myself in the morning after a 30 day hiatus giving the tape a break, but I’ve said before, this challenge was never about how many centimetres I can drop, it’s always been about revising my habits and cutting the booze for a spell. Bring on my final day. I’ve had huge support from Oisín throughout this, and I have some cheerleading members of the group who are unfaltering in their support. A beautifully alive body and thriving life is created with the body, mind and soul being fully connected. ✨ What does this have to do with the body and movement? When we listen to what the body is telling us - i.e - create some space/stillness/slow down - we can hear the signs and signals of communication from the body. Subtle messages, little aches, twitches, needs to open/move certain areas... These little messages are indications of deeper layers of what the bodies calling, understandings of energies blocked, rest not taken, emotions stuck, love not given to self... Movement can allow us to connect to the body in a way to create space/move energy through the body/ allow more flow (blood flow and life force)... First step is creating space to listen. Second step is being ok with whatever is being shown to you. Third step is being open to learning new ways of being/moving/relating to yourself, in order to create change in the body. For a long time I felt lost, like huge chunks of who I was were just being left behind. I felt like I was only really in survival mode as Mom. Tackling the tasks in front of me and making sure everyone else’s needs were met. Making all the magic for everyone around me. I ask my daughters daily, “What do you need right now?” in order to make sure they are happy and healthy and fulfilled. And a few months ago I thought, why not me? Why am I not asking myself that same question daily? I want to be happy and healthy and fulfilled too. And no one is coming to do it for me. So I started doing small acts for myself to feel whole again. To feel tended to. To allow myself to grow and bloom. And I coined it - watering my soul. For me, watering my soul has looked like this: -coloring pictures with my daughters because I loved drawing and it calms my nervous system -taking an outdoor walk alone first thing in the morning to start my day off with doing something for me instead of someone else -listening to my favorite song in the kitchen instead of Baby Shark for the 1000th time because 3 minutes lost in music can change my whole mood -FaceTiming my long distance besties because connection with adults who accept me as I am remind me I am enough and connected with the world around me -sitting outside in the sunshine because vitamin d and fresh air does WONDERS for the brain and body This concept of watering my soul has allowed me to change my mindset in motherhood and start to incorporate my “otherhood” into it so I feel more like a whole individual rather than “just a Mom.” If you’re feeling similarly, try watering your soul. These men did not want to be in this program but had an attitude that their situation could be used for their well-being, rather their desired, presupposed well-being. We who think that we are not in such circumstances tend to think in terms of good or bad. Problems and difficulties make us victims and must fight to avoid or overcome our lot. We have little capacity to see difficult situations to be gifts. It’s all good. Every experience, every circumstance can be used for our well-being and personal development.
