🆘 Please share! Charlotte needs a place to go tomorrow night! 🆘 Charlotte was dumped April 18 and spent a week evading capture before she decided to trust someone. She has been staying in an outdoor kennel since Thursday. Tonight, Charlotte is at Liberty Hill Animal Hospital and tomorrow she will be spayed. She cannot go back to an outdoor kennel. She needs a foster home! Charlotte is about a year old and 60 pounds. She's super sweet with people and bonds very quickly. We're seeing a tendency to protect her people from other dogs. We don't know if that will resolve or intensify as she feels more secure. For now at least, she needs to be the only pet. Say hello to Xena and Gabrielle, my newest fosters! I've actually had these two for a while, but the last few weeks have been crazy! These two ladies are 3 weeks old now, but I first got them at only 5 days old! A few days after picking them up, Gabrielle got sick and refused to eat for a few days. Luckily, I was helping at a bottle feeding class where another foster was able to teach me how to tube feed! However, then I got the news I had to leave in two days for a last-minute business trip, and she still wasn't eating on her own. We were able to find an amazing temporary foster from @thebottlebrigade facebook group who was able to take them both and tube feed Gabrielle until she was feeling well enough to start eating again! I am so so thankful for both fosters - the one who taught me such a valuable skill and the one who took such amazing care of them for the week I was gone! On day 1️⃣7️⃣, we lost another kitten from the original kitten litter. 😔 The black cat with the blue collar is another one of my fosters. He has loved these kittens since the day they were born, though they're not his. He's always bathing and cuddling with them. Always nearby when mama kitty needs a break. He's the only one of my cats, or the fosters, who has taken to the kittens in this way. 😊 He stayed cuddled up to the sick kitty all day today. He did not leave that nest, even when mama kitty left, until the kitten passed, and I removed her. 🥲 4 kittens remain. 3/5 of the originals, (gray), and 1/3 of the step kitties (black). 🐱 The originals are 16 days old, and the step kitty is 13 days old today. All eyes are open. It's getting increasingly difficult to take photos of them unless they're sleeping, because of their wobbling, uncoordinated curiosities. 🥴😄 I've witnessed the passing a four tiny kittens in the last 16 days. This one was extra rough. Hello, my beloved Blu. 💔💙💔 I got the news today that you crossed over to the Rainbow Bridge. I’m so very sorry. I loved you so much and really tried to get you seen so you could get adopted. I’m heartbroken and very angry about this, sweet friend. You were such a light in this world and - like so many others - deserved more time and more of a chance. I feel like I’m yelling at a wall every time I post about dogs like you in shelters. No matter what I say or do, it’s not enough to persuade enough people to care AND take action. We need more spaying and neutering (but we also need more low-cost resources and programs to incentivize that). We need more microchipping and for more folks to remember to register them. We need more folks closely watching and protecting their dogs and getting involved with their local shelters (ex: adopting, fostering, sharing posts, volunteering, donating, etc.). We need more partnerships and connections and communications focused on collaborative rescue and enriching your lives in and out of the shelter. Basically we need more folks to give a damn about investing in saving animals’ lives. But with the way this world is set up and with outcomes like this, it’s just so easy to feel defeated. Monday's with Luna Luna had a good week other than dealing with the rain over the weekend. She attended an inspection. She did really well at her Nosework class, and even found an odor in a small space, and she doesn't like small spaces. On her walk, she walked with Dually, the OG. I think it's the season of orange. Miss Pippy just moved out to start a new life and this girl has moved in, with kittens! Meet Fairway. This poor girl was recently rescued from a local golf course where she had been living for a couple years. She hasn't had an easy time of it. She was trapped very pregnant and has reportedly had at least one other litter out there before this. But things are looking up for her. She had 4 beautiful kittens 5 days ago in a luxury birthing suite in her rescuer's warm house. Now she is with me where she wil raise her babies in comfort. I decided to spare them the stress of individual photos. They are being tricky babies! Their diarrhea is getting more firm (yay) but there was a bit more blood. 😭 Their paneluek test came back negative (hallelujah) so we're thinking it's just the stress on their tummies still. Thankfully the Pepto like medicine seems to be working and hopefully they'll be feeling a lot better soon! They're still eating pretty well, super vocal, exploring more, and are trying to use the litter box. Shout out to @cachehumanesociety for having the best staff!! The individual helping us has agreed to assist in bringing this dog across the border. These pitties are DESPERATELY in need of saving. They are chained in a fenced enclosure on a Baja property (in Mexico). Dangerous conditions with one of them almost strangling itself, caught on a fence as you’ll see in the photo. Fortunately, a neighbor heard them in distress and was able to get to the dog and free it. 🙏 - The owner goes several days without feeding them. Kind neighbors are providing nourishment and water. 🐶 They are able to approach the enclosure and the dogs appear to have a friendly reaction. One of the neighbors confronted the owner and when they were conversing, he kicked one of the dogs.😡 He obviously doesn’t care about them.
