Conversing with passengers who are seated in the backseat– with its anonymity conducive to highly personal reveals, the set-up reminds me a bit of church confession boxes (especially when passengers bare their souls). Since I didn’t always get a good look at the passenger at the start of the ride, and because while driving I could hear their voice but couldn’t see their face, my mind sometimes constructed its own vision of what they looked like– based in large part off their tone of voice or the things they were saying. The meandering of conversations into many directions provided ample opportunity for that image to solidify, which made it both funny and jarring when–as I turned around to say goodbye to the passenger at the end– I was presented with the stark contrast between their actual appearance and the version my mind had concocted. Once, a guy I’d been convinced was stringy and studious-presenting revealed himself to have more of a Jonah Hill build. Another time, a man professing libertarian values turned out to be dressed in goth / emo clothes. I think about how the reverse process often plays out when we’re texting or talking online with someone we haven’t met yet. That is, we unconsciously prescribe traits to them, using a superficial means of assessment (edited pictures and curated self-presentations) to draw conclusions about deeper character traits. As author Kira Asatryan wrote, “Evidence shows that we start constructing our idea of who another person is on first contact. Just one picture on Tinder, one tweet we find hilarious or off-putting, and we think we know who the person is.” Conversely, in the Lyft dynamic I mentally construct a vision of passengers’ outer appearance through the glimpses into their psyche– or the spontaneous, unscripted snippets of their thought processes– that they’ve verbally provided to me during the ride. 1 minute and 20 seconds. 1 minute and 20 seconds can seem so painfully long. 1 minute and 20 seconds is what you're watching now. 1 minute and 20 seconds is how long it took to wrap this particular dumpling. 5 minutes and 20 seconds to wrap 4 pcs in one Serving--about the length of this IGTV. Sometimes Less. Sometimes More. 3 hours to chop Shiitake for a batch of 400 - 500 dumplings. 2 hours to stir fry, measure, mix, and portion out filling. 10 hours minimum to wrap 450 dumplings if I don't eat, drink, or take breaks. Just for prep on 1 of 6 menu item. Not including cooking food fresh for Services or clean up, loading, unloading This all sounds easy on paper. In statistical data. But I'm only Human. Today, I cried all morning. I cried on and off all day. For my Senior Thesis, I handwrote thousands of my own private words on yards and yards of fabric to line the @limlumlaminc garments I fitted and sewed as if creating a Lover by spell. I was asked how it could be mass produced for commercial Fashion. I answered, "It can be, but my garments won't be. My garments are custom made-to-measure. It's a relationship between the Designer and the Wearer." The Designer must personally write words from the soul. The painstaking and meticulous process was by design. My Senior thesis was about my own Identity Crisis. It urged the sentiments, as stitched on my very own wrists, "To be" on one, and "not to be" on the other. That was my past life, but essentially, I haven't changed. My values have remained and my ideology has maintained. This is who I am. I am Moni. INOMONI is me. INOMONI is a palindrome of "Moni" backwards and forwards". It's a made up word. I prefer the pronunciation, "ee-no-mon-ee". Many pronounce it, "i-know-mon-ee". Do you know Moni? If you're questioning my professionalism in my customer service, my page, my brand--perhaps you don't align with INOMONI. "I only want what wants me". I only want what aligns with me. I'm releasing what doesn't serve me. INOMONI is and always will be a piece of me. Normalize humanizing Businesses. Normalize humanizing the Labor that feeds you. Normalize humanizing the Staff that serves you. I'm only Human.

If can take your time to watch part 2. This is my daily life with my parents. Who rather than care for and help me out when they take from me, just take with 0 regard. I don’t know of many parents who completely disregard people’s property, boundaries and use of their resources without offering to help. But this is my life. I love this everyday along with repetitive emotional and mental abuse. That I’m not only subjected to but they allow my children to see. I am criticized regularly and ask why I’m not “normal” and they don’t get my wanting to be unique. I’m a weirdo and stupid. I’m a terrible mother and lazy. Questions that have (understandably) popped up since coming back from Vipassana retreat: . Did you enjoy it? >>> No Was it good? >>> Sometimes Was not talking hard? >>> No Did you get what you wanted out of it? >>> I don't know How was it?!? >>> Intense, Complex, Clarifying, Significant . It's hard to externalise the experience and when I try, it somehow gets lost in translation. But a significant realisation for me is that; "Narratives generated by my own mind get in between me and the reality, of here, of now. A large part of my attention and energy is spent on these narratives, whether it's daydreaming, resenting, self-validating, inflating, reminiscing, future-planning, wishing, judging, aspiring. There's nothing wrong with most of these but I'd like to spend more time Here. I'd like to get better at distinguishing reality from narrative. I'd like to better at understand myself, so that I can offer a better version to those around me. It's a mammoth task, and a lifetime's work. Anxiety. It hits each of us in different ways. But what is the root cause? In my life, it is triggers from my past. The most surprising about it is how it swept me off my feet without me realizing it. I just thought I was being lazy or unmotivated. But gaining perspective over the last 8 months or so, I realized when I shut down or go back into old behaviors that no longer serve me, I am reaching for comfort because something hit me and I have reverted to that teenager that would silently scream into her pillow from the immense amount of pressure and pain. But no one ever saw this. I held it in. And just like a pressure cooker reduces juices to a thick molasses texture, my hurt and pain is so dense and thick that it creates a barrier between me and the ones I love. I don’t intend to push them away, but how can I let them close to me, even for a hug or shoulder rub when everything in me screams “DANGER!!”? I know what the answer is. I need to lift my eyes. I need to bare my heart. I need to speak to the One who created me. But how do I do that when all that is coming out of my heart is pain so deep there are no words?
