for all these letters, pertain to you and you alone. in my days of living as i am, no one could quite understand me the way you have. no one quite sees me in your light. these words have sat in my notes for the 2 years of my being. it is my greatest joy to be able to share these to the world. A part of inner child healing is revisiting a place, person (little you), and an emotion that still lives within you. It is here, where we tap into the unprocessed parts of us that we have learned to shut down or swept underneath the rugs of our minds. We never realize how we've gritted and bared for so long - until one day an outburst, a panic/anxiety attack, or a life event (grief, divorce, losses) happens, and we are stripped down to our core of what truly is underneath. I revisited the Gulf Coast of Mississippi today. I got to sit with the memories of my earlier life. I took in the beach scenery as the lights flickered the sun rays through the branches of oak trees. I sat with the little me, who rode in the back of my eldest brother's red Pontiac with my other two older brothers, and imagined them taking me to the movies for the first time in 1994. Although we were not as close as adults, the realization sets in that in the end, we become memories for the people we leave behind. I'm so grateful for the memories my brothers left me and that I was able to revisit a time together with my brothers today and for the rest of my life.

𝗧𝗿𝘂𝗲 𝗛𝘂𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗪𝗲𝗹𝗹-𝗕𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗴 In her latter stages of her life, Mother Teresa inspires us all to apply True Humility. She once said, “If you are humble nothing will touch you, neither praise nor disgrace, because you know who you are.” This deeply impacted me in my journey of applying True Humility for the aspect of social well-being. Often, it can be so easy for us to lose sight of looking out for others because of our shortfall to stop at our inner peace and balance, and being satisfied with this. Today, let us extend our application of True Humility by creating positive social well-being by affirming others, uplifting them, and gradually, we can create a better, humble, positive community around our life. #TrueHumility

Mỹ Liên Huynh 🥺💕 “Thirty years of life and I had only now decided to look into the meaning of my Vietnamese name. This is all a part of my journey to reclaiming my ties to my cultural roots and identity and finding that sense of pride that was very much lost in my younger years.“ — Safe Space. To any other POC who has been made to feel shame or embarrassment for their name, I hope you’ll embark upon a journey of taking pride in, and embracing, it. I hope we can all play a part in dismantling a culture where these racial micro-aggressions are played off and disguised as harmless or a mere joke. 𝗧𝗿𝘂𝗲 𝗛𝘂𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 & 𝗠𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗪𝗲𝗹𝗹-𝗕𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗴 We continue to live in difficult times, where the rising challenges of living costs, economic crunch, and personal anxiety through the changes is affecting us tremendously. One of the critical things we continue to ask ourselves today could be: “How can I discover my peace and balance consistently in spite of challenges and change?” Today, I would like to share with all of you my own personal application. True Humility begins with us starting to practise a balanced perspective of our strengths and weaknesses equally. During times of challenges and changes we face, it is important to find our empowering strengths of courage, resilience, faith, hope to bring us respite during our moments of weaknesses of failures, fear of tomorrow, and setbacks. As we begin to apply this balanced self perspective, we will embrace ourselves positively. As we take it one step further to harness our mental well-being, it begins with applying the concept of self-acceptance. Times when you feel really down about a difficult challenge at hand, let’s give ourselves time to slowly come to terms with our feelings. When you have calmed down, it is important to learn to ask yourself, what can I learn about myself through this setback? Gradually, we will find ourselves back on the right path. Today, let us practise True Humility and look after our mental well-being in tandem. #TrueHumility

Applying your 𝙊𝙪𝙩𝙚𝙧 𝙏𝙧𝙪𝙚 𝙃𝙪𝙢𝙞𝙡𝙞𝙩𝙮 Recently, a student in a school workshop expressed how many times, whilst we know it is important to learn to discover our own inner True Humility, it can be difficult to apply this towards others consistently. I fully agree with this in my own personal life too.  One of the critical things I realise is that to take our development of True Humility in a holistic manner, we have to continuously look out for ways to exhibit our applications through our Outer True Humility in our communities.  For students, one way to exhibit this could be to exercise your care, empathy, and to show concern to others by supporting them in things you are at - your studies, your active listening skills. For working adults, one way to practise your Outer True Humility can be in supporting your colleagues with words of encouragement, showing your willingness to cooperate and work harmoniously in team settings. For parents, one example could also be to learn to slow down on your own voice, and learn to humble yourself to hear your child out, and establish positive communication. Today, let us all learn to apply our Outer True Humility for the people aorund us! #TrueHumility

In another life, I would have met the child version of my father. I would have sat beside him and told him he was worthy of love. I would have told him he could overcome and accomplish anything, including reading and writing. I would have loved the younger him earlier so that he would have known how to show my brothers and me, or his other children if he had never met my mother, love with language and quality time. Love would have never been foreign for him but natural.

Becoming a locum/Travel CRNA meant: 🌟 Financial Freedom - lowering my monthly living expenses 🌟 More time with family 🌟 Making my own schedule for work and time off 🌟 Time to slow down and process trauma and grief while setting familial boundaries and responsibilities 🌟 Freedom to educate my children from anywhere (hybrid schooling mix for our oldest) 🌟 Healing and writing ✍️ I never knew that having the choices to do what I wanted with my life would liberate me from feeling trapped and stuck. I don't regret becoming a healthcare worker. I became burnout during the pandemic, and then my two older brothers died. I just needed a change of scenery to sit with what happened to my family and me. Bonus that my current scene are cherry 🌸 trees ❤️

Discovering our 𝙄𝙣𝙣𝙚𝙧 𝙏𝙧𝙪𝙚 𝙃𝙪𝙢𝙞𝙡𝙞𝙩𝙮 For many years, during difficult periods of setbacks, I found it tremendously difficult to identify with my inner self positively. I think many of you can relate to this. During a bad week where almost every situation and circumstances goes against your way, when someone adds in a comment like, “you really disappointed me”, or “you should have done better in this situation”, many of us may have an inner monologue that goes something like: “yes, i fully agree, i am exactly what they said, i am truly so lousy”. This used to crush me inwardly, and over time, I became what I chose to dwell on, which is my inner false humility. It was not till many years later when I came to learn and discover about True Humility did I recognise that this habit was deeply vicious, and was something which has made me become a worse person over time. Today, I would like to encourage you to discover your Inner True Humility. During periods of setbacks, even if someone has pointed out your flaws, let us learn to also call out our strengths of courage, resilience, and grit. It is through the balanced approach can we discover our Inner True Humility, and gradually walk away from overwhelming negativity. #TrueHumility

It's crazy to think I left my staff W-2 job in Mississippi and decided to go locum as a CRNA last summer. Sometimes, the universe/God opens a door for you, but you have to be willing to close the door behind you that you're leaving. It was scary. I was uncomfortable leaving into the unknown, but I would have never gotten to sit with my grief and process the way I did if I had never left for Missouri. Here's to intuition - to know when to listen to your gut/God paving a path for you when you prayed for peace and a new path. I can't wait to finish writing my book, building my brand, starting my grief coach and inner child healing business. 2023-2024 was truly the Phoenix (my Vietnamese name Phuong) dying and becoming resurrected in her own ashes (grief).

Around 10 years ago, I started a blog under the name Alyssa Ho Writings. I poured a lot of myself into it and wrote on life and love and to be honest, it never really went anywhere. However, for me it was never really ever about that. It was about doing it because I loved it, not because I wanted a certain outcome from it. It was always about community and connection, and it still is. It always will be. Throughout all these years, writing is the one thing I’ve always found myself coming back to. It feels quite momentous that about 10 years later, I’ve started a blog again but this time under Alyssa Huynh Writings — representing my growth, transformation and a new chapter of my life. To think that throughout most of my 20s, I felt so lost, thinking that I had failed in my writing, only to now realise that I was simply on a journey of finding myself as a writer and stepping into myself as a person. Thank you for letting me figure things out and share my journey with you throughout all this time 🥹🤍✨ {Image description in alt text}

If I could only describe this book in one word, I would say: “powerful”! It’s my first #marchread and it’s of course one of the #womenauthorbook-s that I plan to read in this very special #womensmarch #internationalwomensday If I’m being honest, I once doubted myself that I’d enjoy my entire time finishing this read. The reasons are: 1) This read is apparently not a hype, never appeared in my explore nor have I discovered other non-fiction readers doing a review about it. Apparently only 95 ratings on Goodread. 2) True story, I was in the middle of a hurry when I decided to add this book to my cart since I was told to find a replacement to apply discount at #BigBadWolf2024. (3) I did PICK THIS BY THE COVER! Didn’t expect too much, little that I know it’s just as good as the cover, even beyond my expectation, so, yeay! 🥳 So, basically Xiu Yang is the ancient Chinese art of self-cultivation, and through 15 chapters you’ll get to know all the essential parts (and tools) to get a happier, healthier and balanced life. And if you know me, I always love self-improvement topic and always excited to know more about it from different perspective (this time, it’s based on historical, ancient principles). From body clock to breath, meditation & mindfulness, freeing the inner critic (from self-concern to self-cultivation), to sustainable happiness, you’ll find the better understanding on cultivating life’s essentials. There’s much to tell but here I share some thought-provoking parts that for me felt so powerful. It’s beautifully written by Mimi Kuo-Deemer just as beautiful as the cover 😍 Also tagging my teacher @yogieenglishman for the vocabularies sources hahaha! #nonfictionbooks #selfhelpbooks #mindfulness #asianwriter #femaleauthors #bookreview #bookstagram #bookrecommendations #womenwriters #womensupportingwomen

. @tessahulls Confronts Family History in ‘Feeding Ghosts’ - The graphic novelist’s expansive memoir charts three generations of women in her family, set against the political and social upheaval of 20th century China. - full artist interview by @jaskeimig at southseattleemerald.con /// In Tessa Hulls’ graphic memoir Feeding Ghosts, time, memory, and truth all twist, bend, and cross paths with one another as she tells the story of her grandmother, her mother, and herself over the past 100 years. During the 2020 protests and formation of CHOP, Hulls’ informational comics went viral for their clarity and directness. That same keen, observational eye and ability to cut right to the heart of her subject is on full display in her 10-years-in-the-making Feeding Ghosts, which is a blistering, emotional, and dense read on family. The threads in this story are many. There is Hulls’ grandmother, Sun Yi, a dissident Shanghai journalist who fled mainland China for Hong Kong during the Communist revolution, who wrote a best-selling (and, until recently, untranslated) memoir about her scandalous life and then descended into the thick of mental illness until her death. There is Hulls’ half-white mother, Rose, who was educated at Hong Kong’s top school, immigrated to America, and served as Sun Yi’s caretaker throughout her entire life. And finally, there’s Tessa, a self-described cowboy who at first traveled far and away from her emotions and controlling mother, but is now confronting the generations of trauma winding from her grandmother to her mother to herself. Ahead of the book’s March 5 publishing date and Hulls’ Town Hall appearance, the Emerald jumped on the phone to chat with Hulls about the book, how to navigate the truth, and why Hulls isn’t excited for Feeding Ghosts to be out there in the world. /// From “Feeding Ghosts” by Tessa Hulls. #SouthSeattleEmerald #SouthSeattle #SouthEndSeattle #CommunityJournalist #CommunityJournalism #AsianAmericanArtist #AsianAmericanArtists #AsianAmericanWriter #AsianAmericanWriters #GraphicNovel #GraphicNovels #VisualArtist #VisualArtists #ComicBook #ComicBooks #AsianArtist #AsianArtists #AsianWriter @townhall_seattle

#RencontreLittéraire #Librairie #FeelsLikeHome #ChineseNewYear #NouvelAnChinois #LaiSee #AsianWriter #bookshop @librairielephenix

A look back at what we achieved in 2023. Last year saw us engaging with different communities in our mission to connect, develop and engage the writing community in Singapore. From masterclasses, youth engagement programs and regional projects - we were firing on all cylinders to connect, develop and empower individual writers and communities. If you were involved in any one of our projects, what was your favourite? Leave a comment below! #singlitstation #asianwriter #writercommunity #singaporewritersfestival
