I was completely immersed in the story and the gothic and dark vibes of the world Rachel built. The characters were diverse and I fell in love with them all. My favourite character was Renelm, his story pulled at my heart and I found his character development to be my favourite. Book 19 of 2024 ☑️ The Coworker by Freida McFadden This book was bizarre and not in a good way. I love Frieda McFadden but this one just was not it. It was a page turner and easy to get through like all of her books are, but the story just didn’t do it for me. The twist at the end of part one was underwhelming and mildly predictable. Part two did reveal more twists that kept the story moving towards the end, but at that point I wasn’t super invested. The scheming and plot in the story was so elaborate it just became so unbelievable. Overall, definitely not my favorite Frieda book and not one I’ll recommend. But I’m obviously going to keep reading her work because after books like The Housemaid and Never Lie, I know she can write a thriller I love. This book follows Natalie and Dawn, who are coworkers at a sales company. Dawn is very punctual and never misses work, so one day when Dawn doesn’t show up to work Natalie gets concerned. Book 13. Another audiobook for me, I haven’t had as much time to sit and read recently which I’m sad about but still managing to get some books listened to. I enjoyed this, the story was good and the concept interesting. The characters had varied personalities although they were a little boring. Oh yes, it's Monday, and it sure feels like it. 2 kids late for school, and I def didn't get enough sleep for this. Получих една пищна и бляскава история, основана на действителни факти, но поднесена накъсано , схематично и еднотипно. Още повече самият момент с рисунките на Рафаело беше в последните страници и според мен претупан и не много убедителен. Coffee & Currently Reading ☕️ 📖 : Butcher & Blackbird 🐦‍⬛ ✍🏼: Brynne Weaver Delving into my dark side with this one! I may appear to be all sweet and innocent but don’t let that fool you. I have an odd and demented side too 🤪 that’s a sucker for dark romantic comedy that’s full of murder and spice! This book has the longest and most insane trigger warnings I have ever seen. ( seriously look them up for entertainment at least) And a forward that says: “ For those that read the trigger warnings and said accidental cannibalism?! Count me in! This one’s for you” I knew I had to read it! I’m going between my kindle and audio and the audio is fantastic. A plus, a male Irish accent that makes you swoon! Letture di aprile. 📖💓 Dopo aver terminato il romanzo che racconta la vita di Jane Austen, il mio aprile tra i libri mi ha portata tra le pagine di “Piccole donne crescono”. 📚 Complice un meteo uggioso, pioggia e cielo grigio, il tempo per leggere nel weekend è stato parecchio. “Quello che ancora non sai di me” di Virginia Bramati, ambientato sul lago di Garda, “La mia vita nella tua” di JoJo Moyes, che ho terminato da poco e ora nuovamente tra le atmosfere regency con il romanzo “Una zitella geniale” di Virginia Dellamore. È così, come per i viaggi, per ora accantonati, ai paradisi tropicali preferisco villaggi inglesi, città come Edimburgo dove tornerei volentieri. ✈️ In attesa del sole, che qui sembra in letargo, maggio mi porterà al Salone del Libro dove la mia pila della vergogna farà l’ennesimo balzo in avanti 😅 (non che gli ebook con KU siano pochi anzi). A Tempest of Tea ☕️ • ★★★☆☆ (3.5) • I thoroughly enjoyed this book and the story line. The whole story does keep your interest but I felt like not a lot happens for the first 65% of the book, it all picked up in the last 35% and you find out all theses twists (which I actually loved). It was different to anything else I’ve read, the writing was really beautiful and I love a multiple POV read. I’m excited for the next one to come out (I am hoping there is a next one because we were left on a bit of a cliff). Updated my new travel journal today! I am constantly on the lookout for fun keepsakes and stationery but then I feel overwhelmed at the thought of putting it in my journal and needing to “do it right”. I tried to throw caution to the wind a bit more and just do it. Less writing than my past travel journals- but I think that’s ok. I can always update it with more if I feel compelled! A Sunday Shelfie I don't have much room in my house and my youngest likes to empty the book shelf in the living room. So I'm only left with the shelves she can't reach. 🔔🔔🔔🔔 Pages: 186 • I used to knock these books down in less than a week during my PhD program, but this I read slowly (took the whole month), because I was looking for depth and not breadth. I work in the artificial intelligence sector now, & though I don’t build algorithms - I am surrounded people who do. We actually dabble a lot in AI search & the organization of big data, so reading “Safiya Umoja Noble’s Algorithms of Oppression: How Search Engines Reinforce Racism” felt like a mini crash course. First, the book is extremely accessible & doesn’t require a CS degree to understand. Second, she weaves throughout the book the importance of targeted public policy for AI & the need for large companies to intentionally intersect with library/information studies & critical ethnic+gender studies. How we receive, produce, and trust (mis)information from private corporations pretending to be public goods is the question of the present & future. Noble writes a well structured book that argues for the urgent implementation of her well thought out solutions. I only took off a bell because the actual research that leads to the theory in the book just felt lackluster & not all that rigorous? Maybe a clear cut methods section would have assuaged that issue or maybe this should have just been a practical theory book? All in all though, I definitely would recommend (& I’m going to see how I can convince my employer to make this as mandatory of reading as possible) - not just for folks in AI, but for everyone. 4 bells out of 5. • Read: April 2024 • This was such a slow reading month for me. Non-fiction books usually take me longer to finish, but also, I just really struggled with motivation. I meant to read 3 books this month, & it’s looking like it’ll only be 2. Which is fine.
