What did KMC Colorado do this past weekend? We went on retreat! We are thrilled to announce that over 75 individuals participated in our recent clarity emptiness retreat led by the esteemed Gen Samten and Kadam Lucy James in the serene backdrop of the Rocky Mountains. Attendees immersed themselves in teachings and deep meditations exploring the true essence of our minds and the nature of reality. The value of adult playtime cannot be overstated. I had this whole plan yesterday to check a BUNCH of things off my to-do list… and instead found myself on a spontaneous bike ride with a friend who I hadn’t seen in months. We sampled some pre-ride kombucha, had a wildlife encounter or two, found a fort, walked and talked, and ended the sponteneity with a post-ride bevvie alongside energetic discussions abt life and travel and relationships and well… all the things. (Thank Goddess for female friendships.) It’s these unexpected happenings + the ability to let go and lean in that leave you with the most valuable sense of enjoyment and renewal. (And it’s entirely worth the six chores that I now have to do today 😩😂) Bottom line… Make time for playtime. Your spirit and nervous system will thank you. The #practice of standing on Sadhu nails for #meditation involves preparing a conducive environment with candles 🕯️, #aroma sticks 🌿, and relaxing music 🎶. Set intentions for the practice. What do I need from the practice today? With help (you can use a chair) or on your own, put one foot on the middle of the Sadhu board, shift your #balance to that foot, then with another exhale put the other foot, shifting balance between feet, focusing on even distribution of weight. Do not change the position of your foot on #Sadhu boards during practice - this will restore the initial pain and you could come down faster. Focus on your breathing. Inhale through the nose, long audible exhale through the mouth. Making the long sound "Om" helps most people to overcome intensity. Remember your intention, trying to release emotions from your body and gradually increasing practice time. Initially aim for 1 minute and extend gradually. End the practice with gratitude 🙏, stepping off the board and observing changes. Over time, pain subsides, allowing for longer durations of practice. What is sound meditation? Sound meditation is the use of sound as a tool to cultivate and support deep relaxation. Ultimately, the purpose is to create a gentle, yet powerful, experience that heals the body, clears the mind and helps rein your attention to the present. In this 45 minute class your teacher will play crystal sound bowls. The sound bowls play a frequency rather than a song type of music. The sounds go across your body like waves and can create a full body relaxation. Attending a sound meditation on a regular basis can aid with staying present, stress + anxiety relief, better sleep, less fight or flight reaction resulting in a calmer overall mood. These are only some of the benefits. No prior experience is needed and all are encouraged to come. You will lie down with the use of a yoga mat blankets, pillows or yoga blocks.
