Super excited to find this purple gromwell at the weekend along the south coast path. I'd just bought some for my garden a week or so ago from @celticwildflowersltd as it's rare in the wild and part of the borage family, so it produces nectar and pollen throughout the day which is great for bees and other flower-visiting insects. I saw a hairy footed flower bee drinking from the flowers where I was drawing. It is supposedly found near me in coastal south Wales according to the BSBI 2020 plant atlas but I've not spotted it round here yet... I lady walked past (carrying a hoover!) who said the blue colour of the flowers reminds her of the lady's dress in the painting 'April love' by Arthur Hughes. I looked it up and it does! Wow, what a morning. I missed a gorgeous sunrise yesterday so I had no expectations of this morning with the storm on its way. As it was low tide I wanted to get down to the little pebble beach by Thatchers Point but in the dark it was to dangerous to try as the last couple of years there's been a lot of erosion to the path down. So I found a great spot half way down. As the sun rose the sky exploded with colour.
