Volvemos a las reviews. En esta ocasión, para celebrar el cumpleaños 81 de un maestro del cine estadounidense, un icono por sí solo y sin duda una leyenda viviente. Martin Scorsese que hace poco nos entregó un nuevo trabajo, que ya sé que llego tarde para la fiesta, pero por su natalicio. Hoy se habla dé. Killers of the flower moon: Es la historia real, de como la nación osage en Oklahoma se vio envuelta en una serie de asesinatos misteriosos, justo después de haber adquirido una riqueza por el petróleo en sus tierras. Llevando a una investigación que revelo la verdadera maldad humana en esas tierras. Dirigida por Martin Scorsese, basándose en el libro de David Grann, nos da una historia de avaricia y poder sobre un pueblo indígena enfrentado al prejuicio y maldad de los invasores oportunistas. La narrativa gira en torno a tres personajes principales; William Hale (Robert De Niro) quien es el epítome de los hombres blancos embaucadores, Mollie (Lily Gladstone) quien es una osage acaudalada que se vera amenazada por ellos y Ernest Burkhart (Leonardo DiCaprio) que está entre estos dos bandos de forma muy ambivalente. Más que nada, somos testigos del desarrollo de este genocidio silencioso que se dio a principios del siglo 20 en esta comunidad aborigen. Analizando y observando los horribles asesinatos, pero también el plan de homicidio y arrebatos hacia la gente rica que eran los osage. Scorsese logra hacer esto, con un protagonista para nada listo como es Ernest. Un hombre que ni fue santo, pero tampoco un conspirador. Si no un peón más en la estratagema planeada por su tío William. La representación de la maldad pura, ya que con una visión tan fría y calculadora, vemos el desarrollo de su plan para ir apoderándose del dinero y petróleo de los osage. Aunque, no solo es eso. También exploramos un poco sobre esta sociedad indígena y sus tradiciones como el lenguaje que empapa una identidad propia. Me gusta decir que esto, más que ser una caso de estudio, es una radiografía sobre la maldad y como se maneja en las áreas de poder como el gobierno o sociedad.

Time for my review of #KillersOfTheFlowerMoon. First of all, the film is close to 3.5 hours, so go to the toilet beforehand and plan your liquid intake during the film lol. The film is led by #LeonardoDiCaprio as #ErnestBurkhart who is as dumb as you can get, which makes me think how he got away with so much for so long. He was good, as was #RobertDeNiro as #WilliamKingHale. He appears all gentlemanlike and soft-spoken but this guy was as cold blooded as they come, really liked this performance. But hang on, for me, the MVP of the entire film was #LilyGladstone as #MollieBurkhart, one of the wealthy daughters from the #OsageNation. I’ve never seen her in anything before this but my goodness, she’s a scene stealer for sure and I assume there will be an Oscar nomination for her in the not-too-distant future. The set design and costumes were great, it was like watching people from that period. One scene between Ernest & William had me cracking up, those who’ve seen it will likely know what I’m talking about. The film is a slog to get through at times and is a slow burn for me, but most of what’s on screen is necessary - most, not all. I checked my watch at one point and there were still 2 hours to go lol. Did the film have to be 3.5 hours? I’m gonna say no, I think an easy 15 - 30 minutes could have been cut and you’d get the same result. I think the last hour was the best for me though, when things got a bit more dramatic and personal, especially once the investigation began. One thing I did enjoy was the way the film wrapped up the story and lingering plot threads, it was quite creative to say the least. After all is said and done, this epic is still an enjoyable one to bang your Native American Indian drum to. My Review of Killers of the Flower Moon, the newest Martin Scorsese picture: -This epic revisionist Western/crime drama film and based on the book of the same name, centers on a series of Oklahoma murders in the Osage Nation during the 1920s, which were committed after oil was discovered on tribal land. With an acclaimed director at the helm to tell a captivating and horrific true story, the film not only succeeds at adapting the material but is yet another cinematic masterwork within Scorsese’s catalogue. -The leading cast all craft interesting complexities woven into their performances, which helps deliver a compelling trifecta of characters: Leonardo DiCaprio as Ernest plays a morally corrupt and pathetic figure, whose skewed love for his wife/family challenges his singular ambitions; where whatever affable quality he once had is gone and instead has become a manipulative & broken man. Robert De Niro as “King” Hale captures the textbook definition of a wolf in sheep’s clothing, where his devilish attitude, cold heart and scheming mind are hidden by the warm facade he gives off within the community. Lily Gladstone as Mollie conveys a true kind of strength and determination amidst the sheer amount of loss/pain that was dealt to her; while also yearning for some kind of love and comfort that cannot be given. Little Italy. Two tight knit childhood friends, whose parents all run a pizza place together, go their separate ways while growing up. Her to study at culinary school in London and he stays behind to work at his family’s pizza place. The parents (well the stubborn dads) eventually had an undisclosed falling out and broke up the partnership, so now they run two separate pizza joints right next door to each other, feuding daily in petty ways to sabotage each others businesses in any way they can. Due to VISA-issues, the girl comes home to visit from culinary school and the two childhood friends reunite and slowly spark up a romance, while trying to keep their feuding families in the dark. This is a pretty decent but formulaic and predictable rom-com complete with a ”rushing through the airport to confess your love in public before she flies away”-ending. So… no surprises here plotwise. Performances are not subtle at all. Everybody is all: ”Ey! Oh! Moozadell! Prosciutt! Bada-bipp! Bada-boop!” 🤌🤌🤌 with cartoony Italian-American accents. I watched this solely because I have a very soft spot for Emma Roberts (❤️). She’s probably the most grounded performer here while her co-star Hayden Christensen is all wifi-forehead, looking confused, like he just woke up, like he smoked a truck load of weed before walking on set or sometimes impressively all three at once. Terrible actor. He also has the worst ”zippity-boopity” 🤌accent of the entire cast. Not a masterpiece but once you get used to the goofy stereotyping there is good clean fun to be had here. I enjoyed it. É então que o policial toma uma inesperada e corajosa atitude, e impressiona em executar a ação de resgate da menina e de outras dezenas de crianças também. IMPORTANTE: Durante os créditos temos uma mensagem importante, previamente avisada após a última cena do filme, onde o ator protagonista ( #JimCaviezel) informa a importância de propagar esse filme para mais gente e compartilha um QR code de um link de doação para apoiar quem não pode ir ao cinema, para que possa assistir também. Achei isso algo super importante, pois eu desconhecia a grandeza que é o tráfico de pessoas e, como o próprio filme fala, ninguém senta para conversar com a família e amigos sobre esse assunto, já que se tratar de algo bem delicado. O filme então faz esse papel! Agora entendo o sucesso que o filme está fazendo e se propagando por aqui, além de compreender o motivo da polêmica da produção nos EUA, já que é o país mais responsável pelo tráfico de seres humanos no mundo.
