Decided to knock another movie off my suggestion list. Boiling Point was suggested to me by @takeontheacademy to watch and it was certainly an interesting one. This film was a little bit of a mixed bag, though I think it has more good qualities than not. There were several great performances throughout. Stephen Graham, Vinette Robinson and Ray Panthaki stood out the above everyone. This one definitely feels like a true low budget indie but that’s something I dig about these types of films. The handheld cam style that follows the characters through a single location is one style I do enjoy. I think this movie is a solid drama with a pretty decent overall main story. I do have a few nitpicks with the story structure though. It just kind of thrusts you in with no real backstory to work off of. I also think there are a few unnecessary characters/stories that don’t necessarily add to the film itself. The only other thing I had a small problem with is that it had a typical indie film ending where it just ends without really wrapping it up. I don’t hate the ending by any means, but I feel like I needed just a bit more. Overall, this is a pretty decent film that I think will warrant a rewatch in the future to see if my opinion changes on it at all. For now, I will give it a flat 7/10. Netflix - Bodies BTS. Last year saw the release of @netflix hit drama Bodies, set over 4 time periods following the same murder, and we were very fortunate to be visited by the incredibly talented @asenseofhewma who speed painted this huge 10ft x 8ft mural. The Bodies team were based out of our VERSA Leeds Studios for most of 2022, in Stage 01 (16,000sq ft) and 03 (10,500sq ft) and also used the onsite stores, costume, workshops and two of our five production suites. Their unit base was also accommodated entirely onsite in our large facility car park. The new series Bodies, features an all-star cast and one of the most compelling plots in quite some time. Created by Paul Tomlin, it looks to be a mix of Doctor Who, Sherlock, and Black Mirror. It was a pleasure to welcome the ‘Bodies’ production team to VERSA Leeds Studios. SNATCH. UK/USA, 2000. Director GUY RITCHIE. Turkish (Jason Statham), a local boxing promoter, and his highly impressionable sidekick Tommy (Stephen Graham) are caught in a serpentine plot after an attempted purchase of a much-needed new caravan from a bunch of Irish travelers goes awry. A heist movie centered around a rigged boxing match, an 84-carat diamond, and a psychotic, visually impaired local gangster who feeds his victims to his pigs named Bricktop. Snatch plays out like one of those methodically cyclic Seinfeld episodes full of eccentric high-concept characters, all with outrageous, well-earned aliases that rival the list of names given to the most unusual customers when I worked at a record store on Haight Street in SF. With his second full-length feature, Guy Ritchie is able to exercise his style with some broader strokes and a little more breathing room with financial support from one of the major Hollywood studios. Fine-tuning his style and craft to a well-orchestrated cacophony of idiotic, violent, slithery characters with enough gold jewelry and testosterone, one would be hard-pressed to find a woman's presence. I came into this right off the heels of Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, which I watched religiously at the time, and while it was obviously riffing of Tarantino’s style in the late '90s and early 2000s, it had enough of its own mayhem within that it always supplied a lasting effect. Looking back on it, close to 20 years since my last viewing, it has lost some of its luster, and for what reason, I cannot say. My opinion: Huh, this is not the Nicolas Cage I remember from Dream Scenario or Face/Off. okay, let’s get into the huge negative and that is Nicolas Cage as the main character. Good god, even he couldn’t save such a dull script. He isn’t at all invested in the property and delivers a performance I can only describe as Nicolas Cage, imprisoned. Sounds like he doesn’t wish to be here which probably explains why he acts and sounds like a plank of wood. Cage was nominated for a Golden Raspberry award for worst actor for this, Drive Angry and Trespass; But lost to Adam Sandler for Just Go With It and Jack and Jill. Even the action is dull. I want to enjoy the action but it’s very choppy and appeared to be cut down to get a PG-13 rating instead of learning to embrace the gore. Plus, the CGI is a load of crap. Some of the worst comes from an obvious backdrop in the desert and the demon at the end of the movie. Like, what the hell?! Even the story is dull. It tries to make you question whether there is some kind of witchcraft that is happening in the movie by making it ambiguous but there were points including a scene where someone hallucinates another person and that beginning with The Hound from Game of Thrones that completely throws the twist away. And again, it’s dull. There’s a lack of character growth and development that you can’t even feel. And the only good parts are the performances from Stephen Graham, Christopher Lee and the legend himself, Ron Perlman. Put those three in a movie together and it’s somehow better. Season of The Witch (2011) Man, I don’t know about you, but I wish it were about the Silver Shamrock. 2/5 rating

DOGHOUSE starring Noel Clarke, Danny Dyer and Stephen Graham is a British horror comedy that deserves your attention. Practical effects and solid performances combine for an independent smash hit. A cheesy but effective feature about a group of lads who travel to a village where the females outweigh the male population… except one thing… the women have all been turned into men hating creatures. We have multiple props from the film on display including a witches sword and meat cleaver used on screen in the film!

I was recommended this movie by a friend, as there is a TV series by the same name, same cast, which story follows directly on after it. Interesting concept, so I took a bite. It was a simple movie but that didn't take away from its quality and impact. It's an hour and 30mins, set in a fancy restaurant running a full dinner service in London. It had everything. All the stresses, the customers, the tensions between front of house staff and kitchen, the hard workers, the lazy ones, combined with each characters individual issues weighing them down during a tough shift. I loved The Bear. I loved the movie Chef. I was a big fan of this. A must watch before watching the TV series. Enjoy. 7.5/10🍿 Mrs Knight ANXIETY! A bit like watching The Bear, but not as good character development. It was filmed as one long shot so it makes you feel like you’re really there and reinforced why I wouldn’t work in hospo. Far too stressful. Great film, well made and interesting concept to make an entire film out of one night of service. I hear there’s a tv series that follows the same story and characters, I’ll give it a go for sure. 7/10🍿
