@robzombieofficial has been one of my favourite musicians for roughly 23 years now. I got to see him live, front row on the barricade, when he came out to Australia 13 years ago. So when I saw that his movie - The Lords of Salem - was also a book, I about squeed myself to death in @dymocksbooks #qotd⁉️ What's your favourite genre of music? What's your favourite musical artist/band? #aotd : I listen to all genres from 40s big band swing to death core, my favourite genre is Metal. The Lords of Salem by Rob Zombie w/ B.K. Evenson Blurb: Heidi Hawthorne is a thirty-seven-year-old FM radio DJ and a recovering drug addict. Struggling with her newfound sobriety and creeping depression, Heidi suddenly receives an anonymous gift at the station-a mysteriously shaped wooden box branded with a strange symbol. Inside the box is a promotional record for a band that identifies themselves only as The Lords. There is no other information. She decides to play it on the radio show as a joke, and the moment she does, horrible things begin to happen. The strange music awakens something evil in the town. Soon enough, terrifying murders begin to happen all around Heidi. Who are The Lords? What do they want? As old bloodlines are awakened and the bodies start to pile up, only one thing seems all hell is about to break loose. #robzombie #thelordsofsalem #horrorreads #horrorbooks #horrornovels #horrorreaders #horrorgram #horrorlovers #horrorjunkies #horroraddicts #horroronthegram #horror #books #read #reading #bookish #bookwormsunite #bookwormlife #bookbuyingproblem #horrorbookworm #aussiebookworm #readingbooks #readmorebooks #somanybooks #booksareimportant #booksaremagic #bookcommunity #horrorcommunity

It’s the High Holy Week of Folk Horror, y’all! The weekends around Walpurgisnacht and Beltane are the unofficial markers for this most sacred time for your folk horror loving besties. It’s time to celebrate that special horror subgenre that revels in all things rural, pagan, and occult. This week I’ll be posting about some of my favorite aspects of folk horror, talking about why “rural” settings DON’T automatically make something “folk horror” (side eye), and sharing with you some book, film, and media recommendations and I hope you share some right back too! So stick around, but I cannot guarantee your safety beyond this point. 🐸 GRANITE HARBOR by #PeterNichols 🐸 (out 4/30) The body of a local teenaged boy is found mutilated and displayed at a historic preservation site in the small town of Granite Harbor, Maine. I really enjoyed getting to the bottom of this murder-most-strange (involves toads!!) through the eyes of writer-turned-detective Alex and the many residents of this small town, all of whom are shocked by the murder—but one of whom must be the perpetrator. A heavy dose of the gory and gruesome so beware. I will definitely be keeping this author on my radar in the future. More to come on @heartsanddaggerspod soon. Book buys! On my recent trip to Melbourne to see Sleep Token, I hit up some bookstores with my bestie @j3nofalltrades and picked up this cover buy from @dymocks_eastland #qotd⁉️ What era are you currently in? #aotd I'm currently still in my horror era 🖤 The Creeper by @nocturn_al_shine Blurb: Superstitions only survive if people believe in them... Renowned academic Dr. Sparling seeks help with his project on a remote Irish village. Historical researchers Ben and Chloe are thrilled to be chosen—until they arrive... The village is isolated and forgotten. There is no record of its history, its stories. There is no friendliness from the locals, only wary looks and whispers. The villagers lock down their homes at sundown. A nameless fear stalks the streets... Nobody will talk—nobody except one little girl. Her story strikes dread into the hearts of the newcomers. Three times you see him. Each night, he comes closer... That night, Ben and Chloe see a sinister figure watching them. He is the Creeper. He is the nameless fear in the night. Stories keep him alive. When I'm getting ready to write ghostie, I like to read ghostie stuff to set the tone. And this by @mjmarsauthor is one of the best I've read in a while! An excellent plot! Kyle lives in the home of his ancestors, a notorious haunted house. He decides to recreate a seance with friends his distant relative performed years ago. Not one but five terrifying ghosts were summoned and subsequently banished. Until now. Now, Kyle and his friends have unwittingly released them once again. But it's not the house they're haunting but themselves. And nothing will stop them until they achieve their ultimate goal-their very lives. Great writing, lots of creepy, haunting scenes, and lots of unexpected moments. Definitely recommended for ghostie fans! #bookstagram #horrorbookstagram #horrorreaders #horrorbooks #horrorcommunity #indiehorrorbooks #indiehorror #indiehorrorauthor #promotehorror #horrornerd #horrorrecommendations #horrorbookstagrammer #horrorreview #horrorbookreviewer #darklybookish #darkbooks #ghoststories #ghost

And a pic of cotton candy or gummy bears because that's what I love to eat when I read I tried to send her pics of my cats but in the end they got a bit too hard as I have too many pics so I just asked for 2 cow cats, 1 calico and a grey white kitten. Review - The Haar by David Sodergren (@paperbacksandpugs ) 4.5⭐️ Genre: sentimental/ atmospheric/ comedy horror (Swipe for mood board!) Muriel McAuley is a badass 84-year old, taking on the property developer bullies who threaten to kick her out of her beloved home by the Scottish coast. She's not alone, however, as she has a strange and heart-warming encounter with someone from her past to help her in her endeavours as she reflects on life and death. This was a sentimental horror. Full of love, laughs, revenge, surprises, and lots of bloodshed. The writing and atmosphere are really enjoyable, the portrayal of Muriel is gorgeous, and I found myself hooked once the mysterious character emerged. (Also bonus points for naming a pug after Bianca Del Rio!!! Not today satan!) Another one from Mr. Stine. This one isn’t part of any series though, just a standalone juvenile horror story. Roughly 240-pages with pictures and short chapters, it involves a young girl who eventually wants to get even with her pest of a younger brother. Yes, this plan involves slime. There’s more to it, of course. If you want to enjoy it and figure it out for yourself, I suggest not reading the synopsis on the back cover (or anywhere, however you decide to read) as it pretty much tells you the entire story. #rlstine #slimedoesntpay #blackstonepublishing #gatewayhorror #horrorreaders #printisNOTdead

👻🍽️👻🍽️👻🍽️• @jd.parent This book was... not at all what I was expecting 🤯. I can honestly say I’ve never read a ghost story quite like this one and I still think of it since I read it last month. ❓QOTD❓: What is a book that has stuck with you and you still think about after finishing? ~ Ghost Eaters Review ~ 👻👻👻👻👻 / 5 haunting ghosts Oh boy, where do I even start with this one. I can honestly say I’ve never read a ghost story quite like this before. I felt like I was ‘getting haunted’ right along with Erin throughout the story. The ups and downs sucked me in and I had such a hard time putting it down between chapters. It does cover some pretty heavy topics such as loss and drug addiction. It will leave you questioning everything that happened by the end of the story. I’d definitely recommend this book for anyone looking for a unique ghost story or just wanting to read something different and unusual. #ghosteaters #ghostbooks #ghostreads #ghost #ghoststories #ghostbooks👻 #horrorreaders #horrorstories #horrorbookstagramer #horrorbookcovers #horrorbooks #horrorbookstagram #horrorbookcommunity #horrorbooklove #bookswithatwist #twistending #mustreadbooks #5starreads #5star #5starread #5starreview #bookstagramcanada #bookstagram #bookstafam #bookstabuddies #bookwormforlife #bookcommunity

Review - The Reformatory by Tananarive Due. 5⭐️ Genre: Historical horror fiction (@tananarivedue) Absolutely loved this book. Oh my goodness, the feeling that I was basking in even weeks after reading. This stirred a new love of historical horror, and I intend to re-read this 550+ page book! Cannot recommend this enough! Kudos to Due for also bringing light to systemic issues, it's an area I'm very passionate about. ✅️ characters ✅️ storytelling ✅️ atmosphere ✅️ thrills ✅️ spooks ✅️ real-life horrors 💚..and so much heart. Plot: 1950 - Gracetown, Florida 12-year old Robbie Stephens Jr. is sentenced to The Reformatory, disciplinary school for boys, for kicking the son of the largest landowner in the area, in defence of his older sister Gloria. Robbie also has a gift of seeing ghosts, and he begins to uncover the real horrors of the boys who came before. The story is told between the eyes of Robbie and Gloria, so there is a real innocence behind learning about the horrors of the human world. Gloria, working on the outside to bring justice to Robbie, each step a knife's edge away from danger. Robbie, surviving on the inside, growing up too quickly with harsh disciplines and rules. But Robbie's intellect and resilience paves a way for hope, and you're with him every step of the way. Thoughts: This was such a hauntingly immersive story. Tananarive Due writes beautifully. While the book is fiction, Due felt inspired to honour the lost history of her ancestral relatives' story from the real horrors of Florida's Dozier School for Boys. Due encourages readers to further readings on its history. (Swipe images for recommendations). “But death, like nature, loves even what it destroys.” ⭐️⭐️⭐️ Review: Well, this was a weird ride. For the majority of this novella, I found myself thinking, “Is this chick aware of some mental health concerns?” Yet, I was also curious if what was going on was REALLY going on, especially knowing the genre was horror. I enjoyed the creepy, descriptive atmosphere the author laid out throughout the book, which made it an okay read overall. Swipe for synopsis. Chris got me this for my birthday and I decided to give it a go. I've read plenty of Goosebumps but never any fear street. This was so good. It's two books in one. They're totally different stories but take place in the same town and have a few characters that show up in both. They both have great stories and are actually pretty creepy for young adult horror. #books #booksta #booksbooksandmorebooks #goosebumps #fearstreet #rlstine #bookworm #bookdragon #bookreview #bibliophile #read #readeveryday #horror #horrorreaders #horrorbooks #scarybooks

A short read (or listen in my case 🎧) that follows Laura through her life starting at age 13 when she sees her boyfriend and neighbor Bobby get into a mysterious man’s car, never to be seen again. Since that day, she gets eerie letters every year on her birthday claiming to have new information about Bobby’s disappearance. 4/5 ☆ Brooke: Unsettling is an understatement! I really enjoyed the writing style and the way the story was told. Stories involving kids always hit me different as a mother. Book #2 of Stine’s newest series for young readers (grades 4-6). It was fine. Nothing special, but not a waste of time either. Standard Stine—-quick read, short chapters (roughly 140-pages), twists you either see coming or they’re sometimes shocking sometimes not. If you’re a fan of the author (like yours truly, for over 30 years now), you’ll probably want to read it anyway and no harm will come from doing so (libraries are usually free too). #rlstine #houseofshivers #goblinmonday #gatewayhorror #horrorreaders #horrorfiction #printisNOTdead

Last night the My Dark Library bookclub met to discuss I AM NOT YOUR FINAL GIRL by @clairecwrites and CRADLELAND OF PARASITES by @inkychaotics. For some, these were beloved rereads, and others were introduced to the weird and brutal world of horror poetry for the first time. It was fantastic. We loved falling back into the pandemic themes of fear and isolation when we read CRADLELAND OF PARASITES and exploring the world of the bubonic plague and, more broadly, epidemics throughout history. The vivid depictions of tormented flesh still linger. With I AM NOT YOUR FINAL GIRL we rejoiced in the fluid readability of these poems. How our interpretation of them can change as we watch and rewatch the films referenced in the text. We need Holland to write another volume as soon as possible! Many thanks to all who attended and shared their favorite poems as well as additional recommended reading with the group. National Poetry Month isn’t over yet! There’s still time to read our selection this or ask an admin for a recommendation or two! Next month we’re returning to the halls of higher learning with a bloody good read you don’t want to miss. So order the corsages, schedule the limo, and steam your graduation gowns because we’re going back to high school for prom but we might not make it back out! #mydarklibrary #cradlelandofparasites #iamnotyourfinalgirl #clairecholland #claireholland #saratantlinger #poetry #poetrycommunity #horrorpoetry #horrorcommunity #horrorbookstagram #horrorbookclub #horrorreaders #readmorehorror #bookclubsofinstagram #darklybookish #macabrebooks #nationalpoetrymonth

Finished the Indian Lake trilogy, this being the final book that began with My Heart is a Chainsaw and followed with Don’t Fear the Reaper. Follows Jade, first a teenager in Chainsaw, who is obsessed with slasher movies (horror, at that) living in a small town in Idaho wherein people are killed like in the movies she watches. It’s a slasher trilogy with some supernatural elements added in. Jones definitely knows his horror, but his writing style definitely isn’t for everyone; sometimes he rambles, incoherently, and it goes right over my head (could just be my 6th grade reading level mind). I don’t have patience for reading material that doesn’t flow smoothly and makes me grasp what I just read. It usually does become more clear after some of those bouts though, and, like I said, he knows his horror. I’ve read enough of him, wasn’t really a fan of The Only Good Indians or Mongrels (but I didn’t hate them and wanted to finish them). I did like his novella, Night of the Mannequins; Mapping the Interior was okay. I did want to finish this series (obviously, if I read all three that are all roughly 500-pages) and I’d welcome an adaptation (none of which are confirmed yet) as I thought each book would probably look good on the screen as I was reading them and when I completed them. Like I said, his style definitely isn’t for everyone, but he knows his horror and I’ll read more of his work, most likely. #stephengrahamjones #theangelofindianlake #indianlaketrilogy #horrorreaders #horrorfiction #printisNOTdead

📚 BOOK REVIEW 📚 𝔸𝔾𝕆ℕ𝕀𝔼𝕊 is a collection of three extreme horror / splatterpunk stories. I didn’t even know there was an extreme horror scene in my province and I feel deeply ashamed that I’ve been missing out on it. Here are the summary of each stories: 🧸 𝕊𝔸𝕄- 𝕁𝕠𝕟𝕒𝕥𝕙𝕒𝕟 ℝ𝕖𝕪𝕟𝕠𝕝𝕕𝕤 4⭐️: Sam is in appearence a normal teenager. Deep down, she is far from normal. She is possessed by a serial killer name Bob who makes her do the unthinkable: kill and eat his victims 🚢 𝔸𝕄𝔸ℝ𝔸ℕ𝕋𝔼 - 𝔸𝕣𝕚𝕒𝕟𝕖 𝔾é𝕝𝕚𝕟𝕒𝕤 5⭐️: The Amarante is a boat for the lonely, lost and depraved souls where art and torture means the same thing. 🩸 𝔹𝔸ℙ𝕋Ê𝕄𝔼 𝔻𝔼 𝕊𝔸ℕ𝔾 - ℙ𝕚𝕖𝕣𝕣𝕖-𝕃𝕦𝕔 𝕃𝕒𝕗𝕣𝕒𝕟𝕔𝕖: 4,5⭐️ Bodies are found extremely brutalized around Québec city. Who will believe detective Boisclair when the murderer is faster than an animal, can speak mind to mind and is an entity that lives in different bodies to kill? Gold medal for Amarante it was my favorite story. I already spotted a book I want from Ariane Gélinas and will definitely get more books from this indie publisher. If you can read french but is scared of Québec slang (as you should 😂) just know that the first two stories are written in a more « neutral » french. For the last one though, practice your pronounciation of « Tabarnac », you’ll need it 😂 it was amazing! 📚 ARC REVIEW: Youthjuice by E.K. Sathue ~RELEASES JUNE 4TH!~ ⭐⭐⭐⭐.25 Tree fixes her gaze on Jamie, who twists in her seat. "You have to understand. We'll only reach true equality when women can act barbaric and receive respect for it." 💄👵🩸💁‍♀️✨ THOUGHTS: What if Gwyneth Paltrow was Miranda Priestly but also Elizabeth Bathory??? Weird, compelling, and packed with unlikable selfish women, Youthjuice is a satirical look at society's obsession with beauty, wellness, and anti-aging. I really enjoyed the often poetic writing style; some of Sophia's interactions with her boss and colleagues had an ethereal fever dream quality. The body horror elements were top-notch. If you like: ~ dual timelines ~ workplace drama ~ smooth supple flesh ~ messy MCs who are messed up ~ luxurious bathing rituals ~ women's r̶i̶g̶h̶t̶s̶ wrongs Then grab Youthjuice when it releases on June 4th! Better yet, pre-order it from your favorite indie bookstore! 💄👵🩸💁‍♀️✨ SUMMARY: From Sophia Bannion’s first day on the Storytelling team at HEBE, a luxury skincare/wellness company based in New York’s trendy SoHo neighborhood, it’s clear something is deeply amiss. But Sophia, pushing thirty, has plenty of skeletons in her closet next to the designer knockoffs and doesn’t care. Though she leads an outwardly charmed life, she aches for a deeper meaning to her flat existence—and a cure for her brutal nail-biting habit. She finds it all and more at HEBE, and with Tree Whitestone, HEBE’s charismatic founder and CEO. Soon, Sophia is addicted to her HEBE lifestyle—especially youthjuice, the fatty, soothing moisturizer Tree has asked Sophia to test. But when cracks in HEBE’s infrastructure start to worsen—and Sophia learns the gruesome secret ingredient at the heart of youthjuice—she has to decide how far she’s willing to go to stay beautiful forever. 💄👵🩸💁‍♀️✨

⭐️ 𝐌𝐢𝐧𝐢-𝐑𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐞𝐰𝐬 ⭐️ Today I’m featuring two short-stories written by the talented Jason Jones @thehorrornovelnut76 I’ll only give a brief overview since they’re so short and don’t want to spoil the fun surprises 🤩 One story is called “𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐮𝐦𝐩𝐤𝐢𝐧 𝐏𝐢𝐞 𝐌𝐚𝐧” set in 1972 and is about a man who drives around in his white van trying to sell his pies for Thanksgiving before they all go bad. In just 20 pages, Jones creates a fantastic story thats both frightening and strangely comforting at the same time. You know that cozy feeling you get when you read from one of your favorite authors? This is the first story I’ve read by him but I instantly felt that with Jones writing, an easy 5⭐️ read. After devouring this I craved more and that’s when I immediately moved on to read his next short story titled …. “𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐋𝐚𝐝𝐲 𝐎𝐟 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐇𝐨𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐖𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐊𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐘𝐨𝐮”, which features another mysterious salesman but this one is selling vacuums! Another great story that didn’t disappoint, and you won’t understand the title until you get to the ending which was cleverly written and had me dying laughing! You never know how people will react to a negative review 🤭 another easy 5⭐️ read! I can’t wait until his novella is released, I’m already waiting with anticipation!! In the meantime, I highly recommend you go and read these creepy short stories 🙌🏼 Rating for Both: 5/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ *𝐀𝐯𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐨𝐧 𝐊𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐥𝐞 𝐔𝐧𝐥𝐢𝐦𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐝* 💭 QOTD: If a stranger knocks on your door bleeding and pleading for help, would you let them in? . .

❓QOTD❓: Do you or have you ever bought a book because of the cover alone? That was the case for me with this book. ~ Review ~ ⭐⭐ / 5 stars This cover is soo creepy / amazing / eye-catching and it was my sole reason for buying it at first. That being said, I didn't read the blurb or really look up the concept before jumping in because I like going in blind. Unfortunately I could tell very early on that this book was not for me. I ended up DNFing around the 50 page mark for a few reasons. First, it has that historical / classic vibe to it right from the beginning which I'm not a fan of in general. I like my stories based in the present or even the future if done correctly. I'm not a fan of historical based books. Secondly, going back to read the blurb before I decided to DNF, I realized that the grief aspect is most likely going to be the major thing going on in this one. I'm all for grief / loss as an element in horror novels but don't like when it's the main focus above all else. Thirdly, I just couldn't get into the writing style. I didn't like how the time periods were being mixed together to jump from past to present. It was too choppy. Maybe if it had just started at the beginning of the story of them moving into the house and unfolded from there without the time period switches it would have held my attention better. Overall I was completely impressed with the cover but the story just wasn't my cup of tea. #coverbuy #coverbuybooks #coverbuys #bookcovers #creepybookcover #creepybookcovers #horrorreaders #horrorbookstagramer #horrorcovers #bookreader #notmystyle #notmycupoftea #bookishpost #bookishposts #moodreading #moodreader #bookishthoughts #bookcontent #bookishcanadians #bookishcontent #bookishrant #readingallday #readergirl #readinglover #readinglife #readingismyhobby

𝐌𝗂𐓣𝗂 𝐁ⱺⱺ𝗄 𝐑𝖾𝗏𝗂𝖾ω 👵🏼👩🏼😶‍🌫️ In Bitter Cold by Jason A Jones Genre : Horror Novella Rating : ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ It's been a busy week, and I'm finally able to have the time to catch up on the books ive read to finally write some reviews. Read this beauty of a short horror novella the other day during my 30 min lunch break and was again pleasantly surprised with how well my friend and talented indie author Jason A Jones was able to whip up a short story at the drop of a hat, and once again I knew I was in for a treat. The premise is simple, set in a cabin in the woods, on a bitterly cold evening a grandmother weaves a tale, about a sinister gift bestowed upon her from a love long, long ago. Its the perfect Christmas story for any horror reader, with a twist of an old Gothic folk tale. It may only be 14 pages, but it's the best 14 pages you'll ever read. If you're strapped for time, and you're wanting a quick read, make sure you take a look at this because it may be one of the best 5-10 mins of your life you'll ever spend reading a book. In Bitter Cold will leave you with goosebumps, send shivers up and down your spine, and make you think twice about allowing your grandmother or any family member to suck your finger. But in all honesty, that's just weird unless you're into that kind of thing 😉😱 I got my copy on Kindle Unlimited and its free until the 25th April so hurry and get yours today! Thanks so much Jase for gracing me with your amazing literary talents yet again, but as I always say pls don't keep me hanging! 666: A Dark Drabbles Anthology Order: https://books2read.com/BHP-DD-666 Tiny tales of horror. We all have a fascination for things that scare us—the thrill, the heart-stopping jump scares, the terrifying suspense. From the youngest age, we’re fascinated by the fiendish and furry, the creepiest critters, the naughty and the nasty. Horror is all around us, from the clowns who hide under our bed, to the things we might drag up from the brook at the bottom of the garden, and the zombies who crawl our streets. As author, Megan Feehley, so beautifully says; there is beauty just before the terror…a silken breath taken before the spill of righteousness…the warmth of a licking flame preceding the scald. So, close the drapes, check the locks, turn on all the lights and get comfortable. But don’t close your eyes… Never close your eyes… 💀 #HORROR #SUPERNATURAL #OCCULT #WritingCommunity #readingcommunity #horrorreaders #bookbloggers #bookblast #bookboost #booknerd #drabble #microfiction #blackharepress

𝐊𝗂𐓣ᑯᥣ𝖾 𝐀ρρ𝗋𝖾𝖼𝗂α𝗍𝗂ⱺ𐓣 𝐃α𝗒 ❤️☠️⭐️✨️ For all those who have been with me since day one, y'all know how much of a Kindle Girlie I am, and even though I've migrated to also loving physical books, nothing can really compare to reading a from a Kindle. You can take them literally anywhere and everywhere - to a doctor or dentist appointment, to a nail salon while you're waiting to get your nails done, to a hair salon, on the train, on the bus, to fast food restaurants, to the car, and even to work. They are lightweight, can fit into any bag as a carryon, and they are just so much fun to decorate, and redecorate wherever the mood takes you. I also find that I get through books a lot quicker in a Kindle than a physical book which is a bonus if I'm ever going to meet my reading challenge 🙏📸 Pictured with me are the following kindles: Kindle basic which I've had since 2015 Kindle paperwhite which I've had since last year and last but not least Kindle scribe which is my latest edition and I'm currently still so obsessed with I just thought I would do a bit of an appreciation post because there's so many amazing kindles out there waiting to get noticed! Hope you noticed mine 😉 QOTD: Have you ever owned an ereader and if so is it also a Kindle or another kind of ereader? #kindleappreciationpost #kindlegirlie #kindlebasic #kindlepaperwhite #kindlescribe #amazonkindle #ereaders #kindledecor #popsocket #pink #kindlestickers #kindlebooks #kindlebooksofinstagram #bookstagrammers #bookstagram #bookstagramcommunity #horrorreaders #horrorbooksofig #horrorsuspense #thrillers #splatterpunk #extremehorror #gothichorrors

🪩🫶🏼 #horrorreaders #berlinberlin #foodloversofinstagram #wagyuwednesday

“I’m a girl made of bread crumbs, lost alone in the woods.” ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨ Review: The creepiness of this book is spot-on! It starts with the knowledge that these sisters disappeared for an entire month with no trace, only to return with no memories. Then, one of the sisters goes missing again. The book takes you on a journey not only to figure out where Grey, the oldest sister, went, but also what is going on and what happened to them when they were little. I absolutely loved it! The descriptions of the smells, the gore, and the overall environment throughout most of the book create a true horror atmosphere. Iris's constant struggle, torn between her love for her sisters and feeling like she isn’t quite like them, leads to fantastic character development, especially in the version of Iris we see by the end. In addition to the horror and mystery, I found myself tearing up a couple of times towards the end. It's rare for a book to evoke those kinds of emotions from me, so I consider that a win! Swipe for synopsis. Book: House of Hollow Author: @km_sutherland Genre: Paranormal Horror/Fantasy
