And sometimes that means towards answers, and sometimes it means towards more questions. Because folks, there are very few solid answers in this world. To find an answer is usually to make a choice. And I truly believe that there is very little that is a "wrong" or "right" choice. One of the tools I use is art. Why? Because art opens up our imagination. And in our imagination we hold our futures. This is why I often say to those I'm working with, and to myself as well, "Let's see what the art says!" Do you want to see what the art says? #PraiseReport Around 1:30AM, I heard a rapid sucession of gunshots. I sat straight up in my bed. A few seconds later a car speed away. I assumed this was on the main road about 1/2 mile from my townhouse. My family was not in danger. I was wrong. Police and paramedics came into my community just beyond my parking lot and transported a young man just a few front doors away. I did not know the true extent of the damage until the next morning. Three individuals were shot and one young man died. 😭😭 Praying for the family of those young men. In the picture below, the space between the work van with windows shot out and the car with bullet holes was where my daughter's car was parked until the detective allowed me to move it. No damage done to her vehicle. What? 😯 Excuse me while I take a praise break and give God glory for His covering and protection. Apparently being productive reduces stress. But then worrying about not being productive causes me stress ?🤪 I need to find a way to focus and harness my enthusiasm into a consistent practise. I’ve read that these things may help: 1. Focus on most important tasks first - sounds like a list making task, oh i do love a list 2.Cultivate deep work - not sure on this… 3. Keep a distraction list to stay focused- so make another list of what may distract me. 4. Use the Eisenhower Matrix to identify long-term priorities. Look it up it’s actually quite fascinating, that president was onto something here. 5.Use the 80/20 rule. Well we can’t be productive all the time eh 6.Break tasks into smaller pieces- sounds like another time for a list 7.Take breaks.- good idea, step away from from your workspace, fresh air, exercise but don’t fall down the TikTok hole! 8. Make fewer decisions- not sure on this one? I am but a work in progress, no that wasn’t a famous persons quote just me on a Tuesday morning mumbling away to myself. But this work in progress is trying to evolve, trying to cultivate better practises and achieve consistency with a good work life balance. It’s not easy and sorry if you read this thinking I might have the answers, I don’t. But if you do or you have any tips please respond below as I’m sure lots including myself would love to learn. I too have so many questions, and that is my favorite part of this photo. Sometimes you don't need an answer, your imagination is enough.
I wish as a young pastor, I had been taught how to have healthier conversations, rather than simply how to have the most correct answers. It would have helped me hurt less people along the way. . So I decided I would make a short list of phrases that I have found both helpful and far more honest along with questions that seem to have helped others share more honestly. . Of course, if you don't actually mean the statements you're offering or don't actually want to hear other people's answers, using this list won't magically make your conversation healthier, but at least they don't hurt. . And I would invite you to consider that if you are accustomed to saying things you don't mean and only like to hear yourself speak it's probably best for you to consider a vocation other than pastoring. And if you're not a pastor maybe consider why you have developed such unhealthy patterns of communication. . I didn't know that.* What do you wish I knew?** I have my own doubts. What do you wrestle with? I wish I had the answer. What do you believe? This is just my perspective. What have you experienced? It should never have happened. What would be healing for you? That is painful. Where does it hurt? I don't know what to say. Can I just sit with you? I'm sorry. I was wrong. How can I help make it right? . *Also, just a reminder that silence or at least a very long pause is meant to follow each punctuation mark. This remains the most difficult part for me (IYKYK). However, I have found that grounding my feet, lowering my shoulders, resting my hands, taking my tongue off the roof of my mouth and taking a few deep belly breaths, has really helped remind me that being present is often a far greater gift than having something to say. . **Wouldn't it be amazing if everyone learned the basics of healthier conversations? I don't have all the answers 🤷🏽♀️ I work fuxking hard to be the person I want to be, the personal I am, the person you see. It takes tears, tantrums, triumphs and tribulations, all while trying to figure out what this warped sense of life and everything in it, is all about. I read self-help books, follow self-help pages, I put empowering music on that covers a lot of musical genres. I follow olders, youngers, men, women, thems and theys. I do what I can to expand my sense of self and what I want to represent in this world and what it is that represents my world. I do what I can to grow & reach higher than I've ever been. I treat everyone with the same respect & energy. I have down days, I have happy days, I have days that are a mixture of everything with no time to take stock on what's gone on. I'm not always positive, I don't always shine bright and sometimes tbh I just want a lil bit of violence or a lil oldskool style fight (obvs this doesn't happen 😅, so I dance & shout instead haha 🗣💃🏽🦁). Somedays I feel badass, some days I feel pretty and sometimes I just want to be a slob & eat everything shitty. Who gives a fluff?! Honestly?! Just do what the fuxk you want as much as you want. Earlier this week @kei_maye and @rebecca_caution raised a point about how some business coaches market their offers, promising to take your business to 5 figure months or 6 figure years. Appealing right? If you are starting your business or struggling to increase your revenue, it’s easy to fall into that trap. These coaches will be showing up every day on your grid and maybe in your inbox telling you how their business is bringing in so much money and they are not even working that hard for it. So they say! I'll share MY big secret with you as well : "There are no secrets" You need to work hard, try, make mistakes, get up and try again. Not easy? No! Who said starting and running a business was easy? Did you start your business because you wanted it an easy life? Or you wanted some challenge, some excitement, maybe some fexibility, a purpose, some independence... This comes with a cost though... uncertainty. When you make a mistake in your paid job, well, you’re learning and this has no impact on the money you make at the end of the month. When you make a mistake in your business, it probably has a direct impact on the money that comes into your bank account right? You still need to make those mistakes to learn though. Nobody is born a successful entrepreneur. And those who try to make you think they did well, they didn’t not. They are not telling you the full story. Some had 1,2,3 businesses before having a successful one. A qualified business coach won’t tell you what to do or how to do it. A qualified business coach will not try to fix you but will help you see how resourceful you are. A qualified business coach will open your eyes and help you see new pathways. 2 photos: Coral Body for Hermes. Pigment, ink & bleach on 300gsm - 70 x 100 cm watercolour paper. This work took months. I made the basic structure with the body and the division. Then I hated him and put him away, giving up the idea of painting large works, started tearing up the large paper to make small works again. Then my friend The Contessa de Contini asked me about it and gently encouraged thinking of naming it. I brought it out and decided to destroy it with bleach and then it was perfect. I’ve found that I’ll get creative bursts and I’ll put together content to share, but if I don’t post it within that day I generally never do. Fleeting. In the moment it’s clear, but after a day or so things have shifted and often times the photos or videos don’t feel the same. It’s baffled me for awhile now. How something can feel so important and true in one moment and then not so much a few hours or days later. Fleeting. Maybe it’s just a reminder of presence- always presence. - mind blurbles as I sip my coffee and watch the shift from darkness to light. Happy Tuesday 🌱

Good or bad, right or wrong, food gets us through tough times. Cooking keeps my mind busy and allows me to escape from whatever it is I need to get away from. Tonight I made T-Bones with a homemade steak seasoning, cooked to a medium rare and topped with garlic butter.
