These two were obviously deciding whether or not they wanted to make out. They love giving each other kisses but don’t want people to see them loving on each other. Rosie is our neighbors dog from the across the street and Rosie and Ava have been friends since Rosie was a wee little pup. They have always gotten along and love to fetch. Even when the girls are on their potty breaks they “need” to say hi to each other. We absolutely love Rosie’s company and we hope to have Rosie apart of our walks in the near future. Fun fact- Rosie is so smart that when she knows Ava is outside she will trick her humans into thinking she needs to go potty but instead will drag them to our house so she can see Ava. Her mama said if she was to ever run away we’ll know exactly where she’ll be. 😂😂😂😂 I agree! Side note- Ava is totally not the type of dog that will “want” to say hi to every single dog. She is very selective on who she interacts with and wants to let them in her presence. She has known Rosie for a while and has build a very positive relationship with Rosie. Do I get happy when she wants to say hi to certain dogs? I really really do! 💕💕 But I respect my dog enough to know she doesn’t need to say hi or socialize with every single dog we come in contact with. It’s been a real journey of discovery lately with my horses. Steve Halfpenny says you have to be emotional neutral when you are working horses. For humans how we are daily, how we perceive ourselves, how we put barriers up, or get in our own way. Horses can mirror us, show us the way, sometimes through behaviour we may see as ‘naughty’!! Maybe they are trying to tell us something, maybe get out of our heads, listen to our bodies. Trust ourselves to be around the horse. If we are not horse aware then we are trusting them to feel safe with us. We are the predator and they are the flight animal. Having two different mares but also at two different stages of my life. They are showing me so much. I am grateful for both of them. Since having Truly I am starting to see myself differently and this is then coming through with my work with Flo. It wasn’t all roses today.. training never is! We’ve hit a bit of a sticky patch, we are miscommunicating somewhere. 🤷♀️ most probably me. He was very concerned by the pigs in the yard stables.. which doesn’t help, he has a real phobia about them. He wanted to go inside himself and curl up into a rubber ball.. he then sticks his nose in behind the vertical and backs off the leg and throws a few shapes.. it is then, down to me, to find a way forward, to release the tension and encourage him to think forward and out.. it wasn’t easy but we finished on a more relaxed frame. Progress is not linear, it’s up and down .. a horse is a horse and not a robot. He was going great guns before Xmas in our dressage .. we had a 8 week break and it is easy to think he should be where he was and it is frustrating but we are here.. start exactly where you are and not where you think you should be. And always find the right trainer.. we are ALL always learning. Taking a selfie 🤳 with your Dog… I saw a post recently about Dog Behaviour and considering *context* when looking at photos. Photos are a screenshot of behaviour and don’t give us the full picture, so sometimes what we’re seeing could be open to interpretation. Here’s two photos taken seconds apart with my dog sitting on my lap. I believe had I posted and not offered context, those with less understanding of Dog Behaviour would favour the one where he is looking at me… Except for all the wrong reasons; this to me, is NOT a good photo or a representation of my understanding of Dog Behaviour… UNLESS I provided context. My dog is showing lots of anxious and fearful behaviour meta signals, which when viewed as a snapshot, are uncomfortable viewing. What ACTUALLY happened in this photo is I blew a kiss at my daughter, and the noise startled him so he looked up at me. You could even look at that photo and consider it ‘posed.’ The second photo (I believe less IG favourable) is definitely not posed 🤣 Gus is grooming himself on my lap, doing his own thing 😊 this is the photo I would post and am most comfortable with. In neither photo is my arm around him nor am I hugging him to make the photo more aesthetically pleasing, or to showcase our relationship. Nor am I going to ‘pose’ us both for a favourable photo for this post. He is comfortable where he is and I would not try to use my hands to hold him closer to get a better photo. There’s a lot of social media that makes me uncomfortable, more times than not, the dog is uncomfortable in the photo. #Canyourelate I personally know of situations where my family, family members, and friends have been in situations where kids are becoming victims of situations. I only trust a few select people around my kids. Regardless of how long you've known someone or their kids, you never really "know" that person, let alone their child. Even we as parents don't really know our kids to a certain extent. I'm sure parents of kids who have done something to someone in their family or even someone their child may know would have never thought their child would do such a thing, but we're sadly proved wrong everyday. Having a toddler I choose to do things differently with her. I can't care about who feels any kind of way about it. This sweet 17 year old man was kicked out for being snippy and dancing around the table. Once I got him in the tub and started shampooing and felt his feet it became glaringly obvious he just had really bad arthritis in his feet and ankles. He got a nice hot foot soak to loosen them up and I held his feet differently to avoid any arthritic pains. He didn't snap or wiggle once, in fact he was my best behaved dog of the day! So often dogs are just misunderstood. If you take your time and listen, they tell you what the problem is. We almost ALWAYS drive two cars and when we don’t, we regret it. Holidays cause extreme sensory over load, even if it’s just being surrounded by all the family they love, it’s overwhelming. We use to force them to stay longer . . . you know, another hour, let us finish this game, 5 more minutes and so on. When ever we ignored the need to leave a meltdown would follow and it would ruin the day for us and our child. LISTEN to them, they are asking to leave because they are over stimulated and on the verge of a meltdown. Once we stopped fighting them to stay 5 more minutes and instead, listened and understood them asking for help the meltdown was usually avoided. We use to all just pick up and go but now we are smarter, we drive two cars and when they are ready, we go. I know at times this has caused hurt feelings, or confusion with our extended families but that’s better then having our child “ruin” the holiday for everyone! If you listen, you’ll understand they are asking you for help. Als fervent amazone kan ik alleen maar beamen dat je echt moet luisteren naar je paard. Je paard kan het niet zeggen dat hij last heeft van iets, ongemakken of pijn heeft, hij kan wel signalen geven. Sommige mensen zouden al vlug zeggen, oh stout, stom paard. Of zouden het paard afstraffen. Er zijn geen stomme paarden maar wel stomme ruiters. Ik voelde dat Toujours geen 100% goed liep, ook al had hij een op maat gemaakt zadel. Maar nu vandaag met zijn nieuwe zadel 🙈 dankzij The Country Store Zonhoven , na zijn behandeling door Daya Singh en supplementen van EM , liep hij al veel soepeler. Zijn hoofdstel en bit heb ik ook via Equibitfit laten bekijken. En ook natuurlijk dankzij de tips en lessen, en luisterend oor, van Vicky Corstiaensen, kunnen we hopelijk verder werken naar mijn doel. Het is zo belangrijk te luisteren, en ja ik durf dit toegeven, met mijn jarenlange ervaring, er kan altijd iets verkeerd zijn. En natuurlijk ook dankzij de steun van mijn wederhelft, die in me gelooft en ook al eens durft zeggen, die paarden hebben al een fortuin gekost!🙈 maar he, paardje gelukkig, is baasje gelukkig, is wederhelft gelukkig. 😅 #onlythebestformyhorses #listentothem

It is so common to push uncomfortable feelings down, as a parent we also might not encourage it. I have learnt both on a personal level and from my work, allowing those feelings to be seen and heard is powerful. It is much better to put words on feelings. Pushing them down in the long run can cause other problems like anxiety and panic attacks. Let’s teach our girls to talk about what they are feeling and help them to express themselves by listening. We don’t have to fix them, just being heard is enough.
